The new 2017 Fiat Spider is clearly a throwback to the original 1966 Pininfarina designed Fiat 124 Spider convertible. The original cars were two seat convertibles with rear jump seats and were in production until 1985. With the continued interest and collectability of the Fiat 124, Fiat was inspired to reintroduce their popular sports car for the world market. The new car is largely based on the Mazda Miata MX5, however the exterior styling and flare is all Fiat. The power train is unique to the Fiat as well, with a special 160 hp inline 1.4 litre Turbo four cylinder motor and a 6 speed manual transmission, (6 speed automatic is an option). Interior refinements include extra plush trim and Fiat badging.
