Exquisite museum exhibited Egyptian necklace with 8 Lapis lazuli amulets plus a spectacular central baboon faced Thoth which appears to be lapis or possibly Egyptian blue or faience with an Atef headdress, gold gilt around ankles & remnants of gold gilt to left front side and inscription on front: 'Words spoken by Thoth' (1 1/4"H 3.8cm) surrounded by 6 walking crowned female deities & 2 Ibis headed Thoth amulets (1"-1 1/4"H). Strung together with 26 carnelian ball beads & lapis bead spacers. Spectacular piece! (Newer gold clasp at each end). NOTE: Lapis was prized by the ancient Egyptians over all other stones & gold. SIZE: Necklace 16" long ( 41 cm) DATE: 600 -300 BCE CONDITION: Very good, very minor wear to some amulet plinths, 1 female deity 2nd amulet to left has tiny chip to top. PROVENANCE: Goddard & Josephine Dubois U.S. Collection, acq. Egypt 1900-07. All copied museum paperwork furnished to winning bidder (incl copy of Met. Museum catalog card).
