1847 Colt Walker is being sold in "As Found" "As Is" Condition"!

Up for Auction is what we believe to be an 1847 Colt Walker. This Revolver is being sold in "As Found" "As Is" Condition"!! We encourage you to examine this firearm as it will be available for preview from November 15, 2011 thru December 31, 2011. The revolver will be offered at Public Auction with No Reserve. There will Be No Guarantee's or Warranties with This Colt. We have tried to get the gun verified but the Colt plant was burned during the Civil War and Colt Firearms no longer has records of any guns produced before 1864. Colt Walker Revolvers were manufactured in 1847. They had a total production of 1100. The first 1000 Revolvers were issued to the Military with the remaining 100 offered to the public. The Revolver is a 6 shot .44 caliber revolver. It is the heaviest revolver Colt ever made. The weight of the gun is approx. 4 pounds 9 oz. The Walker has a part octagon barrel and has an engraved scene on the cylinder. It was issued with one piece walnut grips. The Serial # is 1089. The serial number is on the gun in five different locations. It is on the cylinder, twice on the frame, trigger guard, butt plate. All five serial numbers are stamped in. The Revolver is signed "ADDRESS SAM L COLT-NEW YORK CITY" on the frame. On the right side of the frame it is signed "US 1847". The cylinder shows even wear through the outside of the cylinder. It still shows a faint fight scene with Indians. The screws appear to be offset. It has a brass trigger guard. It also has a brass sight on the end of the barrel. The barrel appears to be fairly clean inside. The Revolver has minor pitting and is by NO means in perfect condition. The grips are walnut and do show some wear. The revolver is marked “Property of MGM” inside on the grip frame. The gun has been x-rayed and found to be free and clear of any welding or defects. The Colt will be sold with a letter from its previous owner where the gun was purchased. The Letter Reads: January 18, 1983 Dear Donny, This Letter is in regard to the Colt Walker, in which you've shown some interest. The Walker is in the serial number range known to have been sold to civilians. #1089. It is U.S. marked. We purchased this gun about two (2) years ago from a gentleman named Emery Stluka, formerly of Arlington Heights, Illinois. He in turn said that he purchased the Walker from his brother. His brother purchased the gun at the MGM Auction in Culver City, California in May 1970. My wife called MGM Studios January 17th, and was told that the Studio kept no records from that Sale. Their most recent records go back only (4) years from the present time. This Colt was one of approximately 1000 Antique Weapons which were included in that sale, which consisted of handguns, rifles, swords, daggers, shields and spears. The Auction was conducted by David Weisz Company, International Auctioneers. They provided a Catalogue for the sum of $10.00 which listed many categories of Collectable items to be included in the sale. We do not have one of the catalogues. My Wife also called the David Weisz Co. and was told that with-out the Lot# number the Colt was listed under, there is no way of tracing any information before or after the Auction. Was also told that many of the firearms were not listed by Serial Number, but by "Description" in the catalogue. This Walker has been marked inside on the grip - frame, Property of MGM. This was common practice on all items owned by the Studio. In allowance of this guns more recent history, it would have a separate value of being a Collector’s Item to a Movie Buff. I've mentioned to you before the amount of an offer that I've turned down on the Walker, so there is really no need to elaborate further.
