Item Details
This is a great little collection of California gold. For the most part it was gathered and put together in Calavaras County California in the 1950s. There are three gold samples in this collection the first being a piece of gold bearing quartz that is 3/4" x 3/8" x 1/4" and is 3.8 grams. The next two pieces were both marked as panned from rivers and gravel banks in Calavaras County, first is a small nugget that is 1/2" x 1/4" x 1/8" and is 2 grams. Last is a sample of loose gold dust or flakes it is in a 2 x 2 coin holder and we estimate the gold weight at 1 gram. So in total there is 6.8 grams or a little over 5 penny weight. The collection this came from this was displayed to help show how California's gold played a part in the Civil War and United States history of the West.
