Model 1795 Harpers Ferry Musket Type III
.69 caliber, 45" barrel, bayonet stud on top of barrel; rear of barrel marked in an oval U.S. and eagle head in the other oval. Lockplate marked with an eagle between the hammer and under the pan. Rear of lockplate marked Harpers Ferry and dated 1813 in three lines. Flat lockplate with small tit at rear. Frizzen spring has a finial to the rear. Flat-style hammer may be an old replacement but correct style. Iron pan with fence, top of barrel forward of breech marked PA over 11. Left side of stock has initials carved in the stock, possibly GB and IS. This musket was part of the Robert Cook collection and has been there since it was donated in 1929. A great War of 1812 musket.
Condition: Barrel is smooth and brown with some light pitting around the muzzle and bayonet stud. Some dings around the back of the barrel. Breech plug has a slight pinched area on the left side. Lockplate is grey-to-brown with some light pitting around the markings on the back of lockplate. Hammer has a nice brown patina. Triggerguard, bands and buttplate are a nice dark untouched brown.
