Overview of Priceless Museum Quality Antique Blood Red Ruby With Flawless Clarity / Mined From Burma
Item Details
Priceless antique oval cabochon cut untreated ruby mined from Burma. This ruby was mined between 1812 and 1824 and faceted in England where it was set with two other similar rubies and 7 rose cut diamonds in a gold pendant made by Bailey Jewelers who supplied jewelry to some of the worlds most important royalty and extremely wealthy. We were able to find this information through the makers mark on the pendant. The other two rubies had fallen out of the heirloom piece decades ago and the owner is having them replaced with period sapphires for his daughters wedding gift. He consigned us to sell this amazing ruby to help fund the project. Our on staff GIA certified gemologist did a chemical impurity test on the ruby and it was found to be one of the purist specimens we have ever tested, it did contain trace amounts of lead (completely safe) which positively identifies the stone as being of Burmese origin. The purity of the composition is what gives this ruby the absolute perfect and most desirable pigeon blood red color only found in the finest of rubies. This ruby has incredible eye clean clarity that is so clear we were unable to find flaws even using a 10 power magnifying loupe! Measures 8x6 MM with a weight of 1.95 carats. This oval cabochon cut was the most common cut for this period because it was very difficult to put facet edges on a very hard gemstone such as ruby. This ruby has not been enhanced or treated in any manner. Microscopic horsetail type liquid filled inclusions prove the stone has not even been heat treated because this type of sapphire dissipates at very low temperatures. When having this gemstone set it is important not to expose the ruby to the jewelers torch directly because the heat may dissipate the microscopic inclusion making it difficult to prove the stone is untreated. This is an amazing gemstone for collectors, gemologists, and investors alike. it has significant historical value since it was mined and cut by the Bailey jewelery company, that later became part of Bailey, Banks, and Bittle which was a very large and respected high end jewelry store in the USA, The UK, Australia, Dubai, and a few other countries. We strongly suggest purchasing a heritage report, and appraisal with this gemstone if you plan on insuring it or reselling it to show all of the above listed information. Documentation can be provided by our on staff GIA certified gemologist for a small fee. Ordering instructions are listed throughout the auction.
