Gustave Young Engraved - Extremely Fine condition - revolver - 7.25" octagon barrel - beautiful 1-piece walnut grip; varnished, polished, and in Excellent condition - though traces of case remain, balance has turned to a soft chocolate brown patina on cylinder, barrel, hammer & loading lever - with loss of patina to sharp edges, muzzle, & cylinder - retains about 20% of silver plate on a light golden brass grip frame and trigger guard, brown patina/brass - Markings: crisp & legible- Gustave Young FACTORY ENGRAVED Germanic scrollwork on a punch-dot background & checkerboard designs; engraving covers approximately one third of the barrel, side of the barrel lug and lower barrel flats, barrel loading flat, the sides and bottom of trigger guard, upper and lower portions of backstrap, and the entire frame with exception of capping cut-out. The hammer has a bottom half of scrolling, while the spur sides are engraved with Gustave Young's signature wolf's head design motif - 5-dots can be found on the hammer (Collector Fact-each dot represents a full ten hour day of engraving that Gustave Young performed) - roll-engraved scene of the battle of the navies of Texas and Mexico on the cylinder - cylinder marked "ENGRAVED MAY 16, 1843" & "Colts PATENT NO 1669", matching to serial number - barrel address "-ADDRESS COL. SAML Colt NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" in a panel formed scallop engraved frame ending with a flourish - left side of frame scrollwork encompasses "Colts/PATENT" - "2" on left side trigger guard - "1669" marked on loading lever, matching to the serial - Sights: front brass - Gustave Young known as one of America's greatest firearm engravers for Colt from 1852-1860's. Displaying his European training in his classic style can be seen in this superbly embellished gun - 6-shot - attached loading lever - matching numbers throughout; barrel lug, frame, grip, barrel wedge, & loading lever - mechanics are strong with smooth action and tight lockup - Yr.
