Willys Knight 1928 Model 56 Touring Sedan. A true “Barn Find” automobile. Put in storage by the second owner in 1951, now…70 years later it was extracted from a storage building with doors that had been screwed shut. Last licensed in the year it went in storage, the title is currently missing in action. Willys-Knight automobiles were produced between 1914 and 1933 by the Willys-Overland Company of Toledo, Ohio. The Willys-Knight employed a rare Knight sleeve valve engine invented by Charles Yale Knight. John North Willys was the first US auto maker to buy this license. Without the more common noisy valve system, these engines ran much more quietly. Willys-Knight production ended in November 1932 (model year 1933) when the company, in receivership, stopped building higher priced cars, and instead focused on the manufacture of the inexpensive but durable Willys 77. Willys-Knight automobiles were top of the line American Luxury cars and carried very hefty price tags for their time. This car, is a survivor in original condition. It does appear as though it may have had a red re-paint sometime in it’s life. Likely by the second owner who bought this Willys in 1949. He drove it to High School. A red car would be a much more appealing car for a young man in High School. Everything else about this car appears to be original, including the 34,665 miles on the odometer. Minus it’s fabric top, the body and interior are in very good condition. This Willys Knight was powered by a 157.6 ci Knight sleeve valve 6 cyl engine. It produced 45hp. Serial number indicates it was built mid-year 1928 in Toledo, OH. This car currently doesn't run but would be another excellent candidate for refurbishing back to original or restoration.
