Copper Photographic Plate, Photogravure of Native American Princess and Chief

Lot # 18 (Sale Order: 18 of 292)

As nice a copper photographic plate as you will likely find. Super subject matter of two Native Americans. At this time we do not know who they are, if you do and you would like to share that with us, we would appreciate putting a name to them. One interesting thing we noticed is that the female on the left has a Christian cross painted on her forehead, and two circles on her cheeks. Has she been converted to Christianity by the missionaries? Look at the detail in this piece that shows the incredible look to both of these people. The copper plate is in very good condition with no scratches or damage found. This is a must have for the copper plate, photogravure, photographic, historian, or Native American collector...it is that great! Pencil writing on the back of the piece is partially illegible; the lower portion has May scribbled out with June 22 penciled in underneath. Measures 11-1/2 inches wide by 8-1/2 tall.
