DARWYN COOKE - 2 DRAWINGS: SUPERMAN & ZATANNA (SET OF 2)

Lot # 77 (Sale Order: 45 of 49)

Shipping Costs: UK-£21, US:£45, Europe:£40. Far East:£60. Darwyn Cooke is a graphic designer, storyboard artist, director and animator who turned his attention toward cartooning in the late 1990s. He is perhaps best known for his work on comic books such as 'Catwoman', 'DC: The New Frontier' and 'The Spirit'. He has probably drawn every superhero known to humankind including: The Spirit, Batman, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and Catwoman. Cooke has won multiple Eisner, Harvey and Shuster awards, as well as the US National Cartoonist Society's Best Series award. In 2008, he was Emmy-nominated for the animated adaptation of his magnum opus, 'The New Frontier'. He also recently illustrated IDW's edition of 'Richard Stark's Parker: The Hunter' novel. Darwyn was the writer/artist of 'Before Watchmen: Minutemen' and in 2014 he released a 'Batman Beyond' animated short celebrating the 75th anniversary of Batman. Given his experience with superheroes, it's no surprise that Darwyn has donated a couple of DC classics to our auction. Darwyn's style often has a nod to the 50s, and his interpretation of Superman harks back to that more innocent age, our hero smiling with joy as he shatters some chains. His second image is a portrait of DC super-heroine Zatanna, ranked fourth in Comics Buyer's Guide's "100 Sexiest Women in Comics" list! 2 pictures. Ink on art paper, A2 size....more
