Penny-Farthing

Lot # 201 (Sale Order: 1 of 153)

In 1869, Eugène Meyer, a Frenchman, invented the High-Bicycle design and fashioned the wire-spoke tension wheel.  Around 1870, English inventor James Starley, described as the father of the bicycle industry, and others, began producing bicycles based on the French boneshaker but with front wheels of increasing size, because larger front wheels, up to 1.5 m (60") in diameter, enabled higher speeds on bicycles limited to direct drive.  Although the trend was short-lived, the penny-farthing became a symbol of the late Victorian era. Its popularity also coincided with the birth of cycling as a sport. Purchased by the vendor in approximately 1983 direct from a restorer who built the Penny Farthing faithfully reproducing the original Edwardian design. This charming machine is fitted with a sprung brown saddle with a friction brake ahead of the handlebars bringing the machine to a halt. A unique item and a great entry to the many retro bicycle festivals that are becoming increasingly popular.

Honda PA 50 Moped

Lot # 202 (Sale Order: 2 of 153)

The Honda PA50 was manufactured between 1976 and 1991. It was marketed as the Honda Hobbit in the USA and as the Honda Camino in the UK and Europe, the motorcycles were manufactured in a factory in Belgium until 1991. This PA50 was originally registered on 12th June, 1979 and, whilst it has not been used recently, the last MoT test expired on 17th February 2014, there is no reason to suspect this motorcycle will not need just a little light re-commissioning. Supplied with a V5C registration document and 'top-box' this low mileage motorcycle is offered at no reserve.

Peugeot Bike

Lot # 203 (Sale Order: 3 of 153)

Perhaps best known as a French car manufacturer, Peugeot started producing engines for both two and four wheels in 1899, indeed the Norton that won the very first TT in 1907 was in fact powered by a Peugeot engine. The factory did very well in competition and produced a whole range of models of varying capacity until the Second World War. From then on they concentrated, like many other European factories in producing cheap utilitarian lightweight 50cc machines that were affordable to the masses. By the time the sixties came they were better known for their cars, but continued with mopeds mainly for sale in their home country. This little Peugeot is finished in blue with Peugeot badges in red on the fuel tanks, a black seat and white wall tyres; the Veglia speedometer is showing some 3,940km having been covered. Laid up for some time, this fine machine is ripe for some care and attention and would provide a first restoration project for a budding restorer that can be back on the road or indeed nipping around the paddock accompanying a period race car at Goodwood or Le Mans Classic. Please note, no documentation is available.

Jawa Economy

Lot # 204 (Sale Order: 4 of 153)

JAWA is a motorcycle manufacturer founded in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1929 by František Jane?ek who bought the motorcycle division of Wanderer. The name JAWA was established by concatenating the first letters of Jane?ek and Wanderer. This Jawa Economy moped it is thought was purchased by the original owner for the desirable registration plate, once this was transferred the motorcycle was parked up and has not been used since, hence the mileage reading of 6 miles on the odometer. This motorcycle presents in totally original condition; supplied with a V5C registration document. Offered for sale at no reserve.

Honda Melody

Lot # 205 (Sale Order: 5 of 153)

This 49cc Honda Melody was originally registered on 22nd October 1981 and has only one former keeper according to HPI, however the V5C registration document has been misplaced unfortunately and any new purchaser will need to apply to the DVLA for a new one. Having been stored for a number of years, this moped will require re-commissioning although it appears complete and benefits from an electric start.

NSU Quickly

Lot # 206 (Sale Order: 6 of 153)

The NSU Quickly was manufactured from 1953 until 1964 with more than one million Quicklys were produced in total. The frame was a pressed-steel single spar unit with a headset at the front of the unit and wheel attachment points at the end of the arms at the rear of the unit. The unit also incorporated a tower in which the seat post was mounted and attachment points for the engine and the petrol tank. The engine was a 49cc two-stroke unit mated to a two-speed transmission, a bicycle pedal assembly to start the engine and assist propulsion up hills. In need of re-commissioning although appearing to be complete, this NSU should not be a difficult project for a DIY mechanic to restore this motorcycle to its former glory. Once a common sight on the roads, these quaint machines are rarely seen these days; supplied with a V5C registration document.

Honda CBR 1100 XX Super Blackbird

Lot # 207 (Sale Order: 7 of 153)

Originally registered on 14th May 1999, this Honda has only had one former keeper and been used only sparingly in recent years having formed part of a small but interesting collection of motor cycles. We are advised she rides with no known faults with a smooth and responsive 1137cc fuel injected engine. With a top speed of 178mph recorded by Sport Rider magazine in February 1997, for a brief period this was the fastest production bike available. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 24th April 2017, this Honda is offered at no reserve.

Honda Camino PA 50's were once a common sight, there appears to be few surviving and the condition of this one certainly makes it look a worthwhile project.

Laverda 1200 Mirage

Lot # 209 (Sale Order: 9 of 153)

Purchased by the vendor in 2009 and immediately forming part of his collection, this Laverda has been used very little in the last six years. The three cylinder 1116cc engine, we are advised, runs well with no known faults; the bigger, less stressed engine capable of delivering comparable performance was what differentiated the Mirage from Laverda's original super-sports triple, the 1,000cc Jota. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this is a typically handsome Italian motorcycle, Laverdas are generally expensive but are considered good value in terms of their macho individuality which attracts a enthusiastic partisan following.

Honda VF1000

Lot # 210 (Sale Order: 10 of 153)

The VF1000 range of Honda motorcycles was made from 1984 to 1988 and is named after its V-4998cc double overhead cam, 16 valve engine. The first of Honda's 1,000cc VF range, known as the 1000 Interceptor, was launched in the USA and Canada in March 1984. The bike featured adjustable Pro-Link rear suspension with adjustable braced front forks, aluminium wheels and an aerodynamic half fairing and lower cowl with single rectangular headlight. Three discs comprised the braking system with dual discs and twin piston callipers at the front and a single disc with twin piston callipers at the rear. The current vendor purchased this VF1000 in 2008 and immediately put the motorcycle into his collection, it been used only sparingly since. Presented in very good condition, we are advised it is a delight to ride, helped largely by the well balanced V-4 configured engine. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this Honda VF1000 represents an opportunity to purchase a great classic bike of the 80's.

Yamaha XTZ750 Super Ténéré

Lot # 212 (Sale Order: 12 of 153)

The Yamaha XTZ750 Super is a dual-sport motorcycle and named after Yamaha's lighter, single-cylinder models which in turn were named after the notorious Ténéré desert stage of the former Paris-Dakar Rally. It is a larger, twin-cylinder version of the single-cylinder Yamaha XTZ 660 Ténéré. First sold in 1989, the Super Ténéré used the new Yamaha engine design containing five valve heads with a solid protective guard around the engine prevents damage. The front brake disks are provided with plastic covers and its solid feel and imposing riding position has proved popular with owners. Forming part of a museum collection in recent years, this sound example comes complete with top-box rack, hand guards and wind-deflector as well as a 12 month MoT test certificate and a new battery.

Honda PC 50 Moped

Lot # 213 (Sale Order: 13 of 153)

The Honda PC50 was manufactured from May 1969 until February 1977. The PC50 though much smaller and lighter, had some similar features to Honda's popular C50 /70 /90 Super Cub line, with a step-through pressed-steel frame, a fuel tank under the saddle and chain cover. A distinctive feature of the PC50 is the use of a four-stroke engine, at a time almost all pedal-equipped mopeds used two-stroke engines. In need of restoration, this Honda seems to be complete and would appear to be a simple job for a competent DIY mechanic. Supplied with a V5C registration document.

Triumph 350 Tiger

Lot # 214 (Sale Order: 14 of 153)

Edward Turner's pre-war Triumph 500cc 5T Speed Twin had, way back in 1937, set the pace for a new era of parallel twin motorcycling, a pace that was about to be reset with the imminent launch of the 1949, 34bhp, 650cc 6T Thunderbird. So it was that, somewhat hastily, in October 1949 BSA announced the 650cc A10 which would be on sale for the 1950 season. Originally registered on 1st April 1960, this delightfully handsome Triumph has been restored and presents in very good order, the paintwork is virtually unmarked as is the chromework. Benefitting from being a matching numbers motorcycle and supplied with a V5C registration document, this 350cc Tiger is extremely well estimated given the popularity of these iconic British motorcycles.

Kawasaki KR-1

Lot # 215 (Sale Order: 15 of 153)

In the late 80's, Kawasaki had some success with their KR250 road racer and subsequently released the Kawasaki KR-1 as a two-stroke race replica. It was quite successful, triggering increased competition from the big four manufactures and set off a 250cc two-stroke war among the Japanese motorcycle producers. The engine for all KR-1 models was a two-cylinder, reed valve induction two-stroke motor of 249cc. The 180° firing parallel twin configuration featured a crank driven balance shaft. The power delivery was broadened with the use of the Kawasaki Integrated Powervalve System (K.I.P.S.) arrangement shared by other Kawasaki two-strokes. Registered in the UK on 1st September 1989, this KR-1 has been owned by the vendor since June 2008 and dry stored throughout most of his ownership. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this interesting example will appeal to motorcycle collectors of all ages.

Honda CX650 Turbo

Lot # 216 (Sale Order: 16 of 153)

The Honda CX series motorcycles were developed and released in the late 1970's with production ending in most markets by the mid 1980's. The design included innovative features and technologies that were uncommon or unused at the time such as liquid cooling, electric-only starting, low-maintenance shaft drive and modular wheels. The electronic ignition system was separate from the rest of the electrical system enabling the motorcycle to be push-started and ridden in case of a total electrical system failure. For the 1983 model year, the engine was increased to 673cc, together with an increase in power. This handsome motorcycle is rare, interesting and in very good condition. With only two previous keepers and owned by the current vendor since 2009, this example has only covered 32,000 miles from new. These 650 turbo Honda's are a delight to ride with a very smooth power delivery. The innovative technology on this machine is to be admired and you have to remind yourself this motorcycle is 33 years old; supplied with a V5C registration document.

MV Agusta Magni 861

Lot # 217 (Sale Order: 17 of 153)

Magni and MV Agusta are two names that have always been intertwined in the history of motorcycling. In 1947, Arturo Magni began his legendary career in the Gilera racing department and in 1950, Magni joined a newly formed MV Agusta racing department. Under Magni's management, as chief of the famed MV Reparto Corsa, the team won 75 world championships and over 3,000 races. After MV retired from racing, Magni and his sons set up a factory to build special versions of production motorcycles. The first bikes they redesigned were the 750cc and 788cc MV Sport & MV America road bikes. With all of the engineering experience developed over 25 years of racing, Arturo Magni and his sons performed complete transformations of the street version MV's including chain drives, new frames, tanks and seats. They looked and sounded very much like racing MVs. The vendor informs us that this fine machine is based on a 750S America before the conversion was carried out. Sold by Bol D'or Motorcycles in the UK to Nick Mason of Pink Floyd in the mid 1980s, it subsequently resided in Southern Spain at the Ascari Race Resort where it was owned by Klaas Zwart from 1988 to 2014 where the bike was maintained by his team of mechanics. Acquired by the vendor in September 2014, it was fully serviced in January 2015 before being put into storage and is currently showing 35,011 kilometres. This is an exceptionally rare and very desirable motorcycle and a true collector's item.

Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 4th May 2017 ensuring this BSA is ready to use and enjoy immediately. Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible

Lot # 219 (Sale Order: 19 of 153)

Launched in 1956, the Karmann Ghia Coupé was VW's attempt to raise its image at a time when the western world was emerging from a period of bleak post-war austerity and into an era dominated by American show-biz glamour.  Using the frumpy Adolf-era Beetle as their starting point, VW's executives contracted German coach builder Karmann to turn their ugly duckling into a swan. In an inspired move, Karmann turned to Italian styling house Ghia to inject some Latin brio into the project and an instant classic was born.  Basically a Beetle in a Hollywood party frock, the Karmann Ghia became a runaway success whose cool California styling made it a best-seller right up until 1974 when it was finally replaced by the Scirocco. This Karmann Ghia was imported from the U.S. in 2014 and little has happened with her since. Our inspection confirmed this lefthand drive Volkswagen to be a sound and pretty much rust free example, although the car does require some tidying/restoration work. The hood appears to be quite new and we are advised the engine runs well. The purist will be aware that these are simple and straightforward vehicles mechanically as well as benefitting from German reliability. Not currently registered in the UK, the all important NOVA certificate is supplied, thus enabling any purchaser to do so. Offered at no reserve.?

Humber Imperial

Lot # 220 (Sale Order: 20 of 153)

In October 1964, the final Humber Super Snipe Series V version of the Saloon saw an upper body restyle with a flat roofline and rear window, six-light side windows and a larger, taller windscreen. Twin Zenith Stromberg 175CD carburettors were fitted along with a Harry Weslake tuned cylinder head, increasing the power to 137.5 bhp, and synchromesh was fitted to all ratios in the gearbox. Major modifications were made to front and rear suspensions and they required less maintenance. Intended to match BMC's Rolls-Royce engined Vanden Plas Princess 4-litre R, the Imperial shared the basic specification and performance of the Super Snipe with the addition of a vinyl roof, fully reclining front seats, automatic transmission and hydrosteer power steering as standard. However, a manual three-speed transmission could be ordered. The car also featured electrically adjustable rear shock absorber settings, a separately controlled rear passenger heater and optional West-of-England cloth-trimmed seats as well as many smaller amenities such as individual reading lamps. This 1966 Humber Imperial was purchased by the vendor in 2015 from a gentleman who acquired it in 1998 and while in his ownership, he had the bodywork gone through and the car repainted. The current owner has had a full service carried out, replaced the radiator hoses, new front shock absorbers, new tyres and fitted new carpets to the car and boot. Finished in blue with blue vinyl roof and tan leather interior, this Humber Imperial is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in July 2017 and a file containing some old invoices, old MoT test certificates and magazine articles compering the Imperial with the Princess 4-litre R. The distinguished coachwork is by Thrupp & Maberly and the sales brochure describes the Imperial as one of the world's most luxurious cars, 'a new conception of executive luxury'. A very good alternative to a 1960's Rolls-Royce.

Mercedes-Benz SL 500 Roadster

Lot # 221 (Sale Order: 21 of 153)

The 4973cc, R129 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 carried on the tradition of the fast and reliable grand touring convertible from Mercedes-Benz. Born out of the earlier 500SL models, the new SL500 featured many new and innovative ideas for the time such as controlled electronic damping, automatically expanding roll-over bar and a more modern multi-link rear axle. A fully operating electric hood, windows, door mirrors and seats made this model easy and comfortable to operate. With powerful engines, stopping power was aided by anti-locking braking for added reassurance. Beautifully presented in black with contrasting cream leather interior, this handsome five litre SL has been privately owned for the last nine years and serviced annually in line with the MoT test. Used predominantly as a third car and offered with the accompanying hard top, the vendor describes the car as having never missed a beat over the last 50,000 miles. The history file with this roadster is complete with service documentation, Mercedes-Benz owner's manual and many MoT test certificates alongside a MoT test certificate valid until November 2016. An example of the rising classic R129 in the most desirable 500 specification offered at no reserve, an ideal opportunity to enjoy a Mercedes-Benz likely to rise in value as you own it. *Interested parties should note that the private registration plate with this car is to be retained by the vendor and a new one issued ?

Jaguar XJ-SC V12

Lot # 222 (Sale Order: 22 of 153)

The XJS Cabriolet, which first appeared in 1983, was considerably more than merely a coupé with the roof removed.  The 'T'-top cabriolet paved the way as the first open Jaguar since the demise of the E-Type in 1975, but this was to be the first cabriolet and a strengthened sub-frame was employed in order to alleviate scuttle shake.  Retaining the roomy cockpit space of the coupé, the new cabriolet boasted a useful shelf for excess luggage and all expected Jaguar refinements as standard of course, making for a very fine open grand touring car.  Today, this model is very much establishing itself as a most worthy latter day classic, good examples being eagerly sought by connoisseurs of the marque. This delightfully handsome XJ-SC is finished in Dorchester Grey with Saville leather trim and was first registered on 4th September 1985. The current vendor has had the car restored and she presents in very good order, the paintwork having a good finish as does the interior and brightwork. The original starfish alloy wheels are unmarked, it is hard to think this car is over 30 years old. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a collection of paperwork.?

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

Lot # 223 (Sale Order: 23 of 153)

Catalogue Announcement: *Interested parties should note that the power hood is currently not working but the fault has been identified and we have had a quote of circa £500 for the repairs. These costs would be the responsibility of the buyer if he wishes to have the repairs done. Mercedes-Benz have been producing an SL model or range of models since 1954. The similarly styled but mechanically unrelated 190 followed in 1955 completing the first generation of cars. The second generation SL's began with the 230 in 1963 and was distinguished by its lower waistline, big curved screens and a distinctive optional hardtop that earned the model its nickname of pagoda top'. The car featured here is the third generation R107, a two-door monocoque body shell with independent suspension all round, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the front and semi-trailing arms, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the rear. The power assisted steering was Daimler-Benz's own re-circulating ball system. Over its seventeen year reign, the R107 range was powered by no less than eight different engines - two sizes of straight-six unit and six versions of V8's. Offered in very good condition throughout, this 300 SL Roadster was first registered in August 1988 and is presented in gold with cream Mercedes-Benz Tex interior with a matching hardtop. With only three former keepers, it has covered 76,000 miles from new, equating to less than 3,000 miles a year. Described by the vendor as a lovely example in great overall condition, the SL has a valid MoT test certificate valid until July 2017 and has also benefitted from a recent service. A comprehensive history file compliments the car with old MoT test certificates and invoices. Fuss-free classic car ownership is a niche that the R107 Mercedes has certainly cornered, with prices on the rise and a chance to find a good example, at this price point, is becoming very hard.?

Ford Thames Van

Lot # 224 (Sale Order: 24 of 153)

Commercial vehicles, especially vans, are becoming more and more collectible and useable not only simply for the enthusiast but also for very sound commercial reasons. The Ford E83W 10cwt (half ton) van was built between 1938 & 1957 and was aimed at light haulage companies, tradesman and market traders who required a medium size utility vehicle. They were a common sight on roads for many years although, like all commercial vehicles, survival rates are now extremely low.   This charming 1955 Ford Thames van is an E83W model and had one owner from 1977 through to February 2016. Finished in green with contrasting black wings with signwriting to the doors in the name of H.R Hodge Television Engineers of South Petherton, it exudes character throughout. Fully rebuilt a number of years ago, it is supplied with a history file and a large set of restoration photographs. The van benefits from having a full sunroof that extends well over the rear of the cargo area and side windows to the rear which allow more light and make it more user friendly but can also be covered to give a more authentic look. With most vans leading a tough commercial life, it is rare to find an example in such good condition.

BMW 2002 Touring *NO RESERVE*

Lot # 225 (Sale Order: 25 of 153)

BMW's director of product planning, Helmut Werner Bönsch and Alex von Falkenhausen, the designer of the BMW M10 engine, had both been owners of a 1600-2 (1602) and subsequently had both installed a two-litre engine in their respective cars. Following the realisation that they had both made the same modification, they prepared a joint proposal to BMW's board to manufacture a two litre version of the 1602. At the same time, American importer Max Hoffman was asking BMW for a sporting version of the 02 series that could be sold in the United States. The 1990cc engine was made available in 1968 in two states of tune: the base single-carburettor 2002, producing 100bhp as in the 2000 and 2000C and the dual-carburettor high compression 2002Ti, producing 120bhp as in the 2000Ti and 2000CS. Very rarely does such an original example of a motorcar provide such a unique opportunity; this 2002 Touring, presented in maroon with tan interior, has had a genuine one owner from new and has covered a mere 69,000 miles since 1973. Purchased new through NAAFI British forces in Germany, this coupé was collected from the Munich factory in the spring of 1973 and used during the vendor's military service until returning to England in 1975; hence the 'N' registration number. Other than the two front wings and valance replaced by Jaymic of Norfolk in 1997, every panel and all paintwork are as original as the rest of the car which has been untouched apart from the seatbelts which had to be changed to meet MoT requirements. The car has been garaged throughout its life and the vendor states she has had no accidents or damages; indeed 14 other cars have come and gone in the family since the 2002 was first purchased. Within the history file are all bills, receipts and MoT test certificates from purchase to the present day with the current MoT valid until May 2017. These BMW's are very practical classics and it is rare to have the opportunity to purchase a car which is so well presented.
