Jaguar XK150 Fixedhead Coupé

Lot # 273 (Sale Order: 151 of 153)

The Jaguar XK150 was manufactured between 1957 and 1961 and despite having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically modernised. A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings and, on the roadster; the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the bonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by a leather trimmed unit. The standard engine, the same as fitted to the XK140, was the 3.4 litre Jaguar straight six rated at 180bhp at 5750rpm but most cars were fitted with the SE engine that had a modified cylinder head with larger exhaust valves rated at 210bhp at 5500rpm. These were high performance, well-appointed sports touring cars and could cope with long distances with alacrity.     Originally built for the export market and delivered directly to New York, this (non-original engined) factory-correct 3.4 litre model has since been converted back to righthand drive. Upon acquisition by the previous vendor, the body of this manual example was found to be in good condition, the only areas requiring some work were both doors and door-step areas. During the restoration, the metal parts of the floor were also removed and replaced. On the inside, the interior is smart with the original trim, new wooden dashboard with original instruments. The chromework of both original bumpers is excellent. The brakes have been rebuilt and upgraded with replacement discs with all works fully documented in the history file, complete with valid MoT test certificate with no advisories. Extensive re-wiring has also taken place to bring this example into a position of reliability with over £4,000 spent on various improvements. A full professional re-paint took place in 2012 and all spares, tools, jacks and handbook are included and the resultant XK150 represents a very fine example of the marque indeed.

Bentley S2 Saloon

Lot # 308 (Sale Order: 152 of 153)

For Bentley and Rolls-Royce, the star of the 1959 London Motor Show was their first all-alloy V8 engine to be found in both the Bentley S2 and its cousin, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II. The engine produced approximately 200bhp (Bentley and Rolls-Royce would never quote horsepower figures, preferring to state that it was 'adequate') and, by virtue of its alloy construction, weighed the same as the 4.8 litre, six-cylinder engine it replaced. The result was a smoother, more powerful ride. Most Bentley S2's carried factory 'Standard Steel Saloon' coachwork satisfying the company's commercial requirements and in total 2,308 Bentley S2's were manufactured. This delightful Bentley S2 is finished in the stylish and desirable tones of velvet green over Tudor grey and is supplied with a large history file containing MoT test certificates, tax and service history dating back to 1992. The car underwent a body restoration in October 2000 through to May 2001 and has had further work carried out in July 2015 to the wings, arches and sills which were stripped back and refurbished; the inner arches were fully wax oiled. Further items overhauled at the time include a manifold and carburettor and in May of this year, a full rear brake overhaule was completed. Along with the history file, the original spare and tool kit are supplied as well as an MoT test certificate valid until 31st May 2017. Described by the vendor as being 8/10 in all respects, this fine Bentley offers an opportunity to purchase an attractive piece of British motoring heritage.

Land Rover Defender 90 Autobiography

Lot # 320 (Sale Order: 153 of 153)

With the end of production of the Defender that can trace its lineage back to 1948, Land Rover produced three limited edition Defenders, the Heritage, Adventure and Autobiography offering buyers and collectors a slice of exclusive Land Rover history before production ended. The flagship model in the range is the Autobiography, as offered here, with a limited production run of only 80 examples. It's the most expensive production Defender and cost from £61,845 when new and available only in the 90" station wagon. As with the short-wheelbase Adventure, the Autobiography comes with the 28bhp power boost and 40Nm jump in torque. There's a choice of two-tone paintwork as well as standard 16" alloy wheels and off-road tyres, privacy glass and Autobiography badging.   The Autobiography specification sheet includes, amongst others, a metal fuel filler cap, side steps and black body details. Inside, you'll find Land Rover's full Windsor Leather interior embossed with the Autobiography logo, as well as aluminium trim, unique carpet mats and spun metal discs in the cup holder slots.First registered on the 26th June 2015, this fine example has only covered 1,088 miles from new. Supplied with a V5 document and HPI clear, it remains with its original owner. Resplendent in its two-tone colour scheme and with only 80 produced, demand has outstripped supply of the rarest of Defenders and prices have risen over list price accordingly. A great opportunity to purchase a piece of automotive history.
