Ithaca New Ithaca Double Grade 2 Boxlock Double Ejectorgun

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 783)

serial #500813, 10 ga. (3 1/2"), 32" barrels choked a light and a tight full with bright excellent bores. The metal surfaces retain about 97-98% original blue, the loss due to some light muzzle wear and some minor light scratches and handling marks, chiefly on the left tube near the muzzle. The frame retains about 98% original color case-hardening which is quite vivid in spots and shows the typical loose open Ithaca scroll along with gamebirds left and right. The triggerguard retains nearly all its original blue as do the forend iron and the latch. The checkered capped pistolgrip buttstock and splinter style forend rate excellent with only some minor dings and handling marks from the years, perhaps with a flake here or there, there is lovely grain in the butt. The gun seems to lock up tightly and function properly with the top lever still right of center. There is very light flaking and the very beginning of a tiny crack at the rear of the upper tang. The checkered straight grip buttstock and wedge fastened forend are of nicely figured English walnut and rate excellent with 95% original oil finish remaining and with very sharp checkering. Excellent U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol By Johnson

Lot # 4 (Sale Order: 4 of 783)

.54 cal., 8 1/2" barrel with a very good plus bore. All of the iron furniture remains a bright gunmetal with some sparsely scattered spots of light oxidation here and there, showing also the very widely scattered spot of light pinprick pitting here or there. The brass blade front sight is intact and there are good "U.S." and "WP/P" markings on the left barrel radius with a letter "B" inspectors marking on the left barrel flat. The lockplate and hammer are crisp and show vibrant color case-hardening which is also present on the rounded faces of the frizzen, the striking face a silvery patina showing only evidence of very light use. The lockplate is properly maker marked and dated 1842. The brass pan remains a goldenrod patina and the arm appears to be in original flint in every respect. The stock rates excellent with very crisp edges and much original varnish showing crisp left-side cartouches. Really a very wonderful example which appears untouched, save for a few light rub marks where some light surface oxidation may have been removed here and there. The lock is crisp and mechanically functional. An excellent U.S. martial pistol. (37546-75) {ANTIQUE} [Bleecker Williams Collection]...more

Lovely Cased J.G. Bolen Marked Percussion Allen Pepperbox

Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 5 of 783)

serial #36, .31 caliber, 3 1/2" six shot barrel cluster. This pepperbox is in wonderful condition and comes in an equally wonderful original casing. The pepperbox features a floral engraved action with etched nipple shield and is marked on left side of the bar hammer "J.G. BOLEN, N.Y.", spine of hammer "ALLEN'S PATENT" and one of the barrel ribs is marked "PATENTED 1837 CAST-STEEL". The metal surfaces of pepperbox retain generous traces of original blue in protected areas with the balance bearing a lovely smooth and untouched brown patina. The two-piece bag shaped walnut grips rate about excellent with 90% original finish remaining and with a little added light oil finish. Each grip shows a small oval German silver inlaid plate, both of which remain plain. The case is a typical mahogany case of the period with faded red baize lining and partitions for accessories which include a two compartment flask, walnut handled ram/cleaning rod, bullet mould, along with the original key and some cast bullets. Rare Special Order Winchester Model 1890 Smooth Pistolgrip Slide Action Rifle

Lot # 6 (Sale Order: 6 of 783)

serial #445705, 22 WRF, 24" octagon barrel with a very good plus to near excellent bore which shows strong rifling and is bright but shows the scattered very minor pit here and there with light frosting as well. The barrel and magazine tube retain about 90-92% original blue, the loss is due to even fading and high edge wear with numerous very light scratches and handling marks from the years. The receiver retains a similar amount of original blue perhaps 92-95% with wear on the high edges and contact points, the top of the bolt drifting to a pewter-plum, the lower tang and bow of guard flaked to pewter and brown; there is a small patch of light oxidation on the slide bar. The smooth walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock and grooved forend rate very good plus to excellent with nearly all their original varnish and only light dings and handling marks from the years; the buttplate shows some generous muted case colors with some minor oxidation at the toe. The rifle is sighted with a Beach combination front sight, standard Winchester stamped rear sight and the tang has a Lyman No. 1A sight. The muzzle shows a light ding and some minor pits but they are unobtrusive. Really a very fine and rather rare gun in its smooth pistolgrip configuration, with a great deal more eye appeal than it sounds, the blue appearing very strong under normal ambient lighting conditions. A lovely little 1890. (37553-141) {C&R}...more

Rare Winchester Model 1905 Fancy Sporting Rifle

Lot # 7 (Sale Order: 7 of 783)

serial #3286, 35 Winchester self-loading, 22" barrel with a bright about excellent bore which shows some very sparsely scattered, very light frosting in a few of the grooves. The metal surfaces retain about 95-97% original blue, the loss is due to some light fading and high edge and contact point wear, primarily on the nosecap and bow of the triggerguard and carry point of the frame. The barrel shows a few sparsely scattered areas of very light surface oxidation and some light scratches and handling marks but they are very unobtrusive, the same is true of the left frame flat; the bolt shows strong pale fire temper blue. The checkered walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock and forend rate very good plus with nearly all their original varnish showing the expected minor flakes and handling marks that come with a carefully hunted arm. The checkering remains crisp and buttplate and gripcap are both in very fine condition, there is a very tiny chip at the heel of the butt. A single magazine is included which shows toning to pewter along its front and bottom edges. Really an exceptional model 1905 deluxe "Fancy Sporting Rifle", almost never encountered in this fine state of condition. (37553-119) {C&R}...more

Winchester Model 1907 Fancy Sporting Rifle

Lot # 8 (Sale Order: 8 of 783)

serial #13096, 351 self-loading, 20" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this stellar rifle retain 98% original blue, the loss is due to some light fading and some sparsely scattered flaking to brown. There are a few spots of very widely scattered, very light surface oxidation and two spots on the receiver where light oxidation was very lightly cleaned with an abrasive (likely steel wool) which has softened the oxidation but left behind some light pinprick pits. The checkered walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock rates very good plus to excellent with stunning grain figure and nearly all its original varnish showing only light flaking and handling marks, primarily along the toeline. The forend would rate similar were it not for two cracks which have occurred; the left upper front shows a 6" crack rearward from the nosecap and the right side has a 3" crack from the upper edge of the forearm from the receiver forward. It is likely that a good wood man would be able to arrest these cracks and perhaps even make them disappear. The side of the bolt shows some vibrant pale blue and the original front and rear sights are intact; the barrel nut shows some minor scars in one of the spanner slots. A single blued magazine is included rating excellent. Really a very lovely example overall of these deluxe "Fancy Sporting Rifles" very seldom encountered in such a fine state of condition. The barrel and magazine tube retain otherwise 98 to near 99% original blue were it not for a couple of areas that had lightly rusted where someone has taken steel wool and attempted to remove the light oxidation, these areas now showing pewter-tone streaking, some tiny pits have been left behind. The bands remain bright, the front showing some very minor flaking to brown. The receiver is lovely showing 98% bright original blue, the only areas of flaking the rear-most portion of the tang and a tiny spot of brown at the left top of the receiver. Smith & Wesson Model 320 Revolving Rifle

Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 25 of 783)

serial #293, 320 S&W, 18" ribbed round barrel with a bright about excellent bore which shows only a small handful of light pits near the breech very sparsely scattered for about 4", the balance bright excellent with one small ring of oxidation nearer the muzzle. This is a very nice and very complete revolving rifle. The barrel retains about 55% original blue, the areas of loss flaking and fading to a smooth brown and pewter patina, with the sparsely scattered spot of oxidation here and there, the blue strongest within the flute of the barrel rib. The frame retains a similar amount of blue, the areas of loss also flaking to a plum and pewter patina. The trigger and triggerguard are a smoky silvery case-hardened patina with the hammer similar, showing a ghost of some colors along its right side. The cylinder shows blue only within the flutes with some light oxidation and some scattered minor pitting. The buttstock frame shows some generous trace original blue in the protected areas, the tang sight showing strong trace blue, perhaps 15%, remaining. The rib still holds the globe style front sight with fine crosshair insert with the two-leaf rear in place on its dovetailed base. The mottled red and dark gray checkered S&W logo grips rate very good plus to excellent, there is a pencil number on the right grip but it is illegible; the grips fit perfectly. The mottled red and dark gray forend rates very good plus to excellent as well with a strong S&W monogram in the center of the checkering, it is un-numbered. The smooth walnut buttstock with S&W checkered hard rubber buttplate rates very good plus to near excellent with only minor dings and handling marks from the years, showing an old repaired chip at the toe, the original piece was re-affixed and is very nicely done. There is a very tiny flake missing at the toe and the buttplate is clearly antique and fits extremely well showing wear commensurate with the balance of the buttstock, clearly the mishap occurred during the period of use and a correct buttplate was obtained from Smith & Wesson. Both the buttstock and its iron are assembly numbered to each other "471". Barrel-to-frame fit is excellent and the gun times well and locks up as tightly as the day it left Springfield. Really a wonderful example overall with a great honest, untouched look, in a very fine state of condition. (37456-1) {ANTIQUE}...more
