Thornton was an English Christian missionary to Cairo, Egypt with the Church Missionary Society from 1898-1907. Before departing for Egypt and during his time on staff at the Student Volunteer Movement he also wrote a text book, or missionary study for Christian College Unions, which came to be Africa Waiting. Hardcover, other than map, good condition.

Translated by and with a preface by Dorothy Thompson. Drawings by Constantin Aladjalov. These poems by the author of Power have a curious history. A big Berlin newspaper began to receive them from an unknown correspondent who claimed to have translated them from the English. It was not for a long time that anyone caught on to the hoax and realized that "Wetcheek" is a literal translation for "Feuchtwanger." Good condition with some average wear.

PSYCHEDELIC EXPERIENCE : A MANUAL BASED ON THE TIBETAN BOOK OF THE DEAD, Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner, and Richard Alpert. Published by University Books, New Hyde Park, NY (1966) Fourth Printing. Good condition with slight wear. An instruction manual intended for use during sessions involving psychedelic drugs. Started as early as 1962 in Zihuatanejo, the book was finally published in August 1964. This version of Tibetan Book of the Dead was authored by Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner and Richard Alpert, all of whom took part in experiments investigating the therapeutic and religious possibilities of drugs such as mescaline, psilocybin and LSD.
