Oil on board. Board 13 1/2" x 10 1/2". Frame 17" x 14". Purchased for $975. (Clarence McGrath 1938-2007. Born in Duncan, Arizona Clarence McGrath was the son of a sharecropper and to help support his family he worked as a ranch hand and sketched and painted in his spare time. McGrath studied under California artists Phil Wilkerson, Leon Franks, and Russian-born Sergei Bongart provided a solid foundation for McGrath's career in fine art. At the age of 24 he was presented the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Fellowship Award which provided McGrath an opportunity for a painting trip to Central America. This trip was the 1st of many that promoted a long lasting relationship with the Mexican people. He was featured in Artists of the Rockies and the Golden West magazine and was represented by O'Brien's Emporium, Scottsdale, Arizona.) NO BUYERS PREMIUM. Cost was a California Plein Aire painter, holding the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts from UCLA and Master of Arts from USC. Cost was a teacher of Fine Art from 1955-1964. He was also co-owner with his wife, BettyJo Cost, of the James Peter Cost Gallery in Carmel from 1964-1989. Cost was the recipient of $5,000 and the Gold Medal from Franklin Mint in 1975 for the First Award out of 500 entries for the most outstanding American Seascape Artist. Who of his paintings made it to the front cover of Reader's Digest in the 60s and 70s and many of his images were printed on the covers of California magazines.) NO BUYERS PREMIUM.
