Lot # 430 (Sale Order: 430 of 703)
serial #589056, 44 WCF, 24" octagon barrel with a full magazine and a very good bore that shows a few light spots of oxidation. The lever and hammer are a pleasing gray patina with scattered small spots of oxidation staining and traces of their original case colors. The frame retains 80% original blue with scattered flaking to brown and freckling. The nosecap, barrel and magazine tube retain 93% original blue with a couple small dings, some scattered flaking to brown and light oxidation. The plain walnut stocks rate very good with the upper tang being a bit proud of butt, the butt having some older lightly added oil finish, a few dings and handling marks. The toeline of the stock has a metal blank inletted in it that appears to have been put there for mounting a sling, the plate appears to be period and may have been installed at the factory. The rifle is sighted with a sporting rear sight and a gold blade front sight. A very fine late production 1873 rifle that retains much of its original blue finish. (208527-3) {C&R}

Lot # 441 (Sale Order: 441 of 703)
serial #2016, .44 cal, 7 1/2" part round barrel with a fair bore which shows pitting its full-length. The metal surfaces are an overall dark dull gray tarnished pewter patina with some evidence of a light cleaning. They are overall lightly pitted, also with areas of moderate pitting and dark brown oxidation staining. The triggerguard and straps have toned to a pleasing dull goldenrod patina. The one piece walnut grip rates perhaps good showing an old light cleaning and is now under the metal around its periphery with no remnants of any markings. Numbers are matching on barrel, frame, triggerguard, backstrap, cylinder and wedge, no number can be discerned on the arbor. There are no remnants of a cylinder scene and the barrel is skewed slightly to the left with a number of the screws showing some moderate slot damage. Still overall a very good "example" piece for the budding or budget-minded Colt or martial collector. (38445-4) {ANTIQUE}

U.S. Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine In The Custer Range
Lot # 447 (Sale Order: 447 of 703)
serial #40559, 45-70 Govt, 22" barrel with a poor bore which shows virtually no remnants of rifling. The barrel on this salty veteran is a mostly smooth dark gunmetal gray patina with scattered light oxidation and the expected dings and handling marks from the years showing light tool marks left and right in the area of the rear sight. The frame and the breech block are a similar pewter brown and gray case-hardened patina with the breechblock firing pin channel showing numerous tiny dings, near overall. The lockplate is a deep gray-brown showing some light oxidation and numerous small impact marks around the markings which are light but still legible, the hammer with a bit of light oxidation as well. The triggerplate shows some strong original blue with the bow of the guard now an oxidized brown patina, the buttplate a dull gunmetal gray. The stock shows honest use from the years and rates roughly very good with the expected overall minor dings and handling marks and remnants of original varnish. There are some scattered minor cracks and a rather large drying check at the toe, the right side of the butt showing some scorching from a fire; the circled P firing proof is still evident and there is a very light left side cartouche. The sling ring and bar are intact and the bottom of the band has been ground, the stock showing some scarring from removal and reinstallation of the band. The original sights remain intact. Overall a very good example of a Custer-range trapdoor carbine that certainly spent some time on the western frontier and doubtless had a good deal of saddle time. (38527-2) {ANTIQUE}
