Colt Model 1878 Frontier Double Action Revolver

Lot # 676 (Sale Order: 676 of 703)

serial #8611, 45 Colt, 5 1/2" barrel with a very good bore showing strong rifling and some minor frosting and oxidation scattered about. The metal surfaces of this 1882-made revolver retain about 60% original nickel finish shows flaking edges and minor bubbling throughout. The remainder has toned to a dull oxidized gray with some tiny dings, scattered pinprick pitting, tool marks on the cylinder pin and some minor slot damage to the screw heads. The hammer has mostly toned to a smooth gray with some light freckling and the barrel address has softened significantly but still remains fairly visible. The black checkered hard rubber grips remain in very good condition with some smoothing of the edges throughout and a few minor scuffs. They are the correct type but are later replacements, do not fit the frame perfectly and are scratch-numbered "910" on the left and "11910" on the right. The cylinder is numbered with the last three digits of the serial number and the lanyard ring is intact. The gun is functional in both double and single action but timing and lockup is fairly sloppy overall. A well-used but solid example of these early double actions. (138433-77) {ANTIQUE} [Paul Weisberg Collection]

Lot # 678 (Sale Order: 678 of 703)

serial #12853, .36 caliber, 6 1/2" round barrel with an about good bore that shows scattered patches of oxidation. Remington-Beals Army Model Percussion Revolver

Lot # 679 (Sale Order: 679 of 703)

Description Update (11/1/17): This lot has been withdrawn.

serial #1741, .44 cal, 8" octagon barrel with a fair bore showing oxidation, frosting and visible rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver have been lightly cleaned and show some remains of an older reapplied finish throughout now toned to a smooth gray and gunmetal with some patches of old pinprick pitting, small dings, freckling and oxidation staining. The barrel markings have softened but the first line still remains largely visible along with a number of sub-inspector marks stamped throughout the revolver. The silver cone front sight is present and has been lightly modified into a blade, the left extension of the cylinder axis pin has been ground off and the hammer spur may have been repaired long ago. The brass triggerguard also shows an added paint-like finish flaking to ochre. The smooth walnut grips are un-numbered and remain in about good condition as lightly cleaned with worn finish, dings, handling marks and small chips at the edges and corners. The grips bear remnants of what appear to be spurious cartouches that are rather crudely outlined. The frame, barrel and triggerguard are matching and the cylinder is a later replacement with safety notches but timing and lockup are still very solid. Also included is an old black leather belt holster that remains in about good condition with some scattered tears, lost stitching at the end, scuffs, crackling and staining. Still a good representative example of a Remington-Beals. (138527-43) {ANTIQUE}

Colt House Model Revolver

Lot # 680 (Sale Order: 680 of 703)

serial #8218, 41 RF, 2 5/8" barrel with a fair bore showing oxidation, frosting and still good rifling throughout. This revolver remains in very nice overall condition with the barrel retaining about 85% original bright blue showing some pinprick pitting at the muzzle, patches flaking to dark brown, light oxidation staining and freckling. The cylinder retains about 15% original blue streaks having mostly flaked to a pleasing brownish gray along with a turn line, light scratches and freckling. A few of the screw heads show some minor slot damage and many of them retain some very nice hints of fire temper blue. The trigger, cylinder stop and hammer also retain lovely fire temper blue toning to purple with some operational and high edge wear to silver and a few scattered freckles. The brass frame has mellowed to a pleasing ochre throughout with a few small dings and freckles scattered about. The markings on the frame and barrel remain very clear and crisp. The smooth walnut grips are both ink-numbered to the gun and remain in near excellent condition retaining a healthy amount of varnish showing some minor high edge flaking and a few small dings and handling marks. The cylinder on this revolver is mismatched (9722) but timing and lockup are nevertheless very solid. Really a quite nice example overall. (138448-23) {ANTIQUE}

Remington New Model Army Cartridge Conversion Revolver

Lot # 681 (Sale Order: 681 of 703)

serial #91846, 44 RF, 8" octagon barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing a little frosting throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver have worn to gunmetal and brownish gray throughout with patches of cleaned light pitting, small dings, oxidation staining and freckling. A number of the screw heads and holes show some damage and the barrel marking and various sub-inspector stamps are rather faint but present. The brass triggerguard shows some small dings, scratches and retains about 25% flaking silver plate with the remainder worn to a lightly cleaned goldenrod. The smooth walnut grips and their screw are mostly likely replacements as they are un-numbered and are quite shy of the frame. They remain in good condition as lightly refinished with flaking varnish, small dings and handling marks throughout. This gun has undergone a period modification that appears very similar to a factory conversion in which an extension plate was brazed onto the rear of the cylinder along with an added recoil plate on the frame and a modified rimfire hammer. The frame, barrel and triggerguard all have an extra large font "55" assembly number and the cylinder is stamped "PAT APP'D FOR". All serialized parts are matching, the cylinder is un-numbered and there is also an added lanyard ring. Overall a rather interesting example with very solid timing and lockup. The action is turning to a dull gray patina with scattered oxidation staining and traces of the original oil quenched colors. The walnut stock rates very good with a "127" rack number on heel, a 3/4" crack at upper tang, a 1/4" crack at heel, scattered dings and handling marks. The muzzle has been correctly reduced, the stock has the correct wooden plug at front and the rear sight is an 1898 carbine rear sight. Remington Model 1861 Navy Percussion Revolver

Lot # 683 (Sale Order: 683 of 703)

serial #21512, .36 cal, 7 3/8" octagon barrel with a good bore showing strong rifling, scattered oxidation and a ring of rather heavy pitting toward the breech. The metal surfaces of this pistol have been lightly cleaned to gunmetal throughout with some light oxidation staining, small dings and old cleaned pitting scattered throughout. Many of the screw heads show some light slot damage. The hammer and trigger retain remnants of what appears to be older reapplied blue but have mostly toned to gray. The brass triggerguard is a lightly cleaned goldenrod with a few small dings and freckles. The smooth walnut grips are un-numbered and lightly cleaned with no evidence of an inspector cartouche. Their fit to the frame is not quite perfect and they remain in about very good condition with a few small chips, dings and handling marks. This example has a later New Model-style cylinder pin, the loading lever has been drilled for the pin retainer screw but the screw is missing, the silver cone front sight has been modified to a gold blade and there is a rather odd added hole and screw through the backstrap that does not appear to serve any practical purpose. The barrel, cylinder and triggerguard are all matching the frame and mechanical function remains excellent with strong timing and lockup. A well-used but solid example of a Remington Navy model. (138525-18) {ANTIQUE}

Finely Engraved Moore's Patent Front Loading Revolver

Lot # 684 (Sale Order: 684 of 703)

serial #10639, 32 Teat-Fire, 3 1/4" barrel with a very good bore showing strong rifling and a few patches of light oxidation and pinprick pitting. The metal surfaces of this revolver are almost entirely covered with expert embellishment featuring deep finely-stippled shading and heavy foliate scrollwork on the barrel. The cylinder features a lovely forest scene with finely detailed horseman, hunting dog, fish and swan along with the deep finely-stippled background as seen on the barrel. The cylinder, barrel, trigger and hammer all show some scattered freckling, light oxidation staining, a few tiny dings and softened markings. The silver-plated brass frame has mostly toned to a pleasing pale yellow with some small patches of tarnished silver and oxidation staining. The frame is embellished with lighter foliate scrollwork throughout with soft punch-dot shading background. The smooth rosewood grips are very tightly fitted to the frame, precluding easy removal, but they are no doubt original to the gun. They remain in near excellent condition with a few patches of flaking varnish, some minor wear to the high edges and some handling marks. The barrel, cylinder and wedge are all matching by assembly number and the mechanism functions well with solid timing and lockup. A really superbly engraved example no doubt executed by a master craftsman. (138514-36) {ANTIQUE}

Remington Model 1861 Navy Percussion Revolver

Lot # 685 (Sale Order: 685 of 703)

serial #19250, .36 cal, 7 3/8" octagon barrel with a good bore showing strong rifling, oxidation and minor pitting throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver have toned to a mixed gunmetal, gray and dark brown patina with light oxidation staining, small dings, a turn line on the cylinder and patches of pinprick pitting scattered about. The barrel markings have softened some but remain visible, the silver cone front sight has been slightly re-contoured and the mainspring tension screw is a more modern replacement. There is some more moderate pitting and the beginnings of a small crack in the frame where the hammer nose rests. The brass triggerguard is a pleasing ochre patina with some small dings and oxidation staining. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good condition as lightly refinished. They are a little shy of the frame and show some minor dings, dents and handling marks throughout. There is a very faint outline of the original inspector cartouche on the left panel and the serial numbers are indiscernible. This Navy model is a rather interesting early example as the cylinder is not yet cut for safety notches and the loading lever has not been retrofitted with the cylinder pin retaining screw. The barrel, cylinder and triggerguard are all matching to the frame and the gun still functions very well with strong timing and lockup. (138527-73) {ANTIQUE}

Whitney Navy Model Percussion Revolver

Lot # 686 (Sale Order: 686 of 703)

serial #30822, .36 cal, 7 3/4" octagon barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing just a little scattered oxidation. The metal surfaces of this revolver have mostly toned to a pleasing mix of gunmetal and brownish gray, the barrel retaining some scattered streaks of original blue mostly under the loading lever. There are a number of small dings and tool marks on either side of the barrel, scattered freckling, pinprick pitting and minor oxidation staining. A few of the screw heads show some minor slot damage, the barrel marking has softened but remains very legible and the cylinder scene has been partially obscured by oxidation staining and light pitting with sections still quite visible. The trigger still retains some very nice fire temper blue and the loading lever and hammer also retain some faint remains of case color mostly toning to a smoky freckled gray. The brass triggerguard is a pleasing reddish ochre patina with a few minor scratches and small dings. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good plus condition with lightly worn finish, a few small chips at the edges, light dings and handling marks. The serial numbered parts on this example are mixed between two numbers that could very well suggest either factory error or cannibalization of two revolvers. The loading lever, cylinder and barrel are numbered 20822 while the frame, grips, triggerguard and arbor are numbered 30822. Everything still functions well with strong timing and lockup making for a very solid overall example. (138525-8) {ANTIQUE}

J.C. Terry Single Shot Deringer

Lot # 687 (Sale Order: 687 of 703)

serial #564, 22 RF, 3 3/4" barrel with an about very good bore showing strong rifling and some light oxidation and pinprick pitting. The metal surfaces of this little pistol retain about 92% older reapplied nickel plate with a few scattered freckles, flakes, scratches and oxidation staining scattered about, the majority at the rear right of the hammer. The smooth rosewood grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in good condition with the left panel showing just a few dings and handling marks and the right grip showing a 1 1/4" repaired crack through the grip. The markings have softened a bit but remain quite clear and the rear sight is missing. These deringers used an interesting dropping hammer system where the hammer acts as the breechblock as well as firing the cartridge. Overall a very nice example of these rather scarce pistols. The rear upper tang screw appears to be a replacement but this is a very good 1894 takedown rifle overall. (208087-200) {C&R} [Kenneth Fry Collection]
serial #104503, 30 WCF, 26" part round part octagon barrel with half magazine and a very good bore that shows scattered light pitting. The magazine tube, nosecap and barrel retain 80% original blue with a couple small spots of cleaned pitting, some silvering behind rear sight, scattered oxidation staining and fading to gray. The plain walnut stocks rate very good plus with a small added hole on the toeline, the beginnings of a small chip at the front right of lower tang, scattered dings and handling marks. Lot # 690 (Sale Order: 690 of 703)

serial #52335, 45-70, 32" barrel with a very good plus bore that shows a few small pits. Russian SVT-40 Semi Auto Rifle by Tula

Lot # 692 (Sale Order: 692 of 703)

serial #PA921, 24 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that shows scattered frosting and light pitting but strong rifling. The metal surfaces of this 1941 dated rifle retain 60% of an arsenal blue finish with oxidation staining on bolt body, scattered fading to gray, freckling and a few spots of light pitting. The birch stock rates very good with two partially faded Soviet cartouches, the remnants of an armory varnish finish, a couple hairline cracks on handguard in front of rear sight, scattered dings, light scratches and handling marks. The parts are mismatched, both the magazine and the receiver are marked with a boxed "SA" Finnish property marking. The receiver is factory grooved for a scope mount, there is a scope notch at the rear of the receiver that appears to be wider than known original examples and the handguard is a bit loose. A very good example of an SVT-40 that saw service in the Finnish army. (208546-13) {C&R}

Remington New Model Army Cartridge Conversion Revolver

Lot # 693 (Sale Order: 693 of 703)

serial #91010, 44 CF, 8" octagon barrel with an about very good bore showing strong rifling and some light oxidation and pinprick pitting. The metal surfaces of this revolver retain about 75% older reapplied blue with high edge wear, cylinder toning to brown, scattered small dings, freckling and pitting under the newer finish. The brass triggerguard has been lightly cleaned to goldenrod with some light dings and dents. The smooth walnut grips remain in about very good condition as lightly cleaned with worn finish, small dings, dents and tiny chips scattered about. The interior numbers are no longer legible and there are faint remains of an inspector cartouche on the left grip. This revolver has been non-factory cartridge-converted, no doubt by a professional gunsmith as the conversion is very well done and features a loading gate with tension spring, an added extension plate at the rear of the cylinder, a loading cutout on the right side and a hammer modified for center fire. The right grip is penciled with what appears to read "D.M.K. & Son" and the left grip has some illegible scribbling. The cylinder and frame are both stamped with an assembly number "27", the barrel and frame are matching by serial number and the triggerguard is numbered 21656. The mechanism still functions quite well with strong timing and lockup just a little loose. A very interesting conversion revolver that might benefit from some further research. (138315-237LS6-26) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection]

Starr Arms Company Army Model Single Action Cartridge Conversion Revolver

Lot # 694 (Sale Order: 694 of 703)

serial #24429, 44 CF, 8" round barrel with a bright very good bore showing strong rifling and some minor oxidation and frosting. The metal surfaces of this revolver retain about 40% thinning older reapplied blue with high edge wear, thinning to pewter and brown, numerous small dings and tool marks scattered about, freckling and old pinprick pitting underneath the newer finish. The backstrap has been cleaned to in-the-white, some of the screw heads show some minor damage and the frame markings are still quite visible. The rammer and its screw may also be replacements. The one-piece smooth walnut grip is numbered to gun 33988 and is a little shy of the frame and backstrap. They remain in good overall condition as lightly cleaned with a few small dings, handling marks, two thin 1 1/2" cracks on the left side and a small scratched-in "4" on the right. This revolver has been very professionally converted, probably during the period of use, to use center fire cartridges and features a frame-mounted recoil plate with integral firing pin. The parts on this example are a wide mix of serial numbers including the cylinder (appears to be 2590), triggerguard (24370) and backstrap (23909). The barrel is matching and the mechanism appears to function very well with a robust hammer and solid timing and lockup. A solid example of a revolver, seldom seen converted to fire cartridges. Cased Engraved Remington Model 1895 Over Under Deringer

Lot # 695 (Sale Order: 695 of 703)

serial #119, 41 RF, 3" barrels with about good bores showing strong rifling, oxidation and light pitting throughout. The metal surfaces of this deringer feature very nice deep foliate scrollwork with punch-dot shading covering about 75%. The surfaces have mostly toned to an oxidized dark gray and gunmetal with freckling, small dings and tiny pinprick pitting throughout. The hammer retains some traces of fire temper blue but has mostly toned to dull gray. The hinge on this example shows an older repair that is starting to crack on the left side. The mother-of-pearl grips are un-numbered and are most likely period replacements as their fit to the frame is not perfect. The left panel has a repaired 1 3/4" crack through the escutcheon and a 1/2" crack just below that. The right panel shows some small chips around the edges and a few tiny dings. The extractor is present, the barrel matches the frame and the hammer functions at full cock but the firing pin does not change position. The deringer includes a period mahogany case that remains in near excellent condition with some worn finish and a few minor handling marks. The interior is lined with green baize showing some light staining and minor scuffs. Three copper-cased UMC 41 RF cartridges are also included. Overall this piece remains a rather nice example. (138433-66) {C&R} [Paul Weisberg Collection]

Custom Engraved Remington New Model Navy Percussion Revolver

Lot # 696 (Sale Order: 696 of 703)

serial #22546, .36 cal, 7 3/8" octagon barrel with a bright very good bore showing some minor oxidation in the grooves. The metal surfaces of this revolver retain about 98% professionally reapplied matte blue with some very faint high edge wear and a few tiny cleaned pinprick pits. There are further scattered old dings and patches of pinprick pitting underneath the newer finish. The sides of the hammer show some minor freckling and oxidation staining and the triggerguard retains about 75% original silver plate with areas worn to goldenrod, some light dings and minor tarnishing. This revolver features custom engraving with rather nice foliate scrollwork, fine line shading and long arrows along either side of the barrel. The original barrel markings are almost entirely buffed away and the front sight has been peened in place and modified with a brass screw as the top of the sight. The antique ivory grips show some very nice age cracking and subtle grain at the base of the grip panels. The left grip is plain and the right grip is carved with a magnificent Mexican eagle holding a snake and standing on cactus. It also features a small inlaid "ruby" for its eye. The right panel is pencil-numbered "32546", no doubt a mistake as the first digit of the frame serial number is a rather poorly struck "2". The triggerguard is matching the frame, the cylinder appears to be un-numbered and the barrel is numbered 24613. The hammer is very robust and timing and lockup remains very solid. A very attractive Remington Navy with some nice custom embellishments. (138514-19) {ANTIQUE}

Custom Merrimack Arms & Mfg Co. Southerner Deringer

Lot # 697 (Sale Order: 697 of 703)

serial #1744, 41 RF, 2 1/2" octagon barrel with a fair bore showing evident rifling, oxidation and light pitting throughout. This little deringer features some very nice custom embellishments with the metal surfaces retaining about 90% gold plate on the barrel showing some operational wear, high edge wear, small dings and some oxidation staining of the underlying metal. The "SOUTHERNER" marking on the top barrel flat is no longer present but the left side markings are still quite crisp and clear. The brass frame has toned to a pleasing goldenrod that pairs nicely with the gold of the barrel. There are a few small scattered dings, handling marks and light oxidation staining. The frame is finely embellished with expert scrollwork and punch-dot shading. The screw heads, trigger, and rear of the hammer show vibrant fire temper blue with some toning to silver and the side of the hammer have been left in-the-white. The mother-of-pearl grips fit the frame rather nicely and remain in about good condition. The left panel is chipped at the top right corner and heel and the right panel is also chipped at the heel with some further small dings. The mechanism still functions well and the barrel and frame are numbered alike. A very attractive and elegant piece overall. (138433-41) {ANTIQUE} [Paul Weisberg Collection]

The checkered walnut grips appear to be modern replacements and they rate excellent.
