Remington New Model Police Percussion Revolver

Lot # 1275 (Sale Order: 276 of 901)

serial #7729, .36 cal, 4 1/2" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this revolver retain perhaps 35% original blue mostly on the barrel and protected areas of the frame. The remainder has worn to smooth gray gunmetal with a few scattered freckles, scratches and very tiny pinprick pits. The hammer retains some very nice hints of original case-hardened colors toning to smoky gray. The nose of the hammer has some minor damage but the nipples are in near excellent condition overall and the chambers are very clean. The brass triggerguard retains about 60% silver plating with the remaining brass relatively bright overall. The barrel markings are mostly visible but appear to have been rather lightly stamped and the front sight appears to be a period replacement brass post. The smooth walnut grips remain in near excellent condition as lightly cleaned with little original finish remaining and just a few small dings and handling marks scattered about. Both grips appear to have been originally pencil-numbered "7529" but this number has been crossed out in both cases and replaced with the correct number. The triggerguard, frame, and barrel are all numbered alike and the rear of the cylinder is numbered only "56". Timing and lockup are very strong and this revolver remains a very nice and clean example overall. (138484-17) {ANTIQUE}

Colt Model 1877 Thunderer Double Action Revolver

Lot # 1276 (Sale Order: 277 of 901)

serial #74476, 41 Colt, 5" barrel with a good bore showing strong rifling and some light oxidation and pitting throughout. The metal surfaces of this 1890-made revolver retain about 92% older reapplied blue with some high edge wear, small dings, freckling and some streaks of grayish brown. The frame and hammer also show some older reapplied blue and have taken on a mottled appearance of gray, blue and silver with some freckling and pinprick pitting under the newer finish. The black checkered hard rubber grips remain in very good plus condition with some smoothing overall and a few scuffs and handling marks. They appear to be pencil-numbered "171" and do not quite fit the frame perfectly. The frame, triggerguard, backstrap and cylinder are all matching and both double and single action function remains strong with good timing and lockup just a hair loose. This revolver still remains a very solid example overall. (138433-80) {ANTIQUE} [Paul Weisberg Collection]

Brooklyn Arms Company Slocum Patent Pocket Revolver

Lot # 1277 (Sale Order: 278 of 901)

serial #2237, 32 RF, 3" round barrel with a good bore showing strong rifling and some light pitting and oxidation throughout. The barrel and cylinder of this revolver have mostly toned to a nice deep brownish gray patina with some streaks of original bright blue throughout the cylinder. There are a few dings at the rear of the cylinder and on the ejector rod along with some scattered freckling and tiny pinprick pitting. The brass frame features standard factory light foliate scrollwork and has mostly toned to rich ochre throughout. There are traces of original tarnished silver plate in the protected areas of the frame. The trigger and hammer have mostly toned to gray with some freckling throughout along with faint remnants of case colors on the hammer and fire temper blue on the trigger in the more protected areas. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good plus condition retaining a healthy amount of original varnish, a few scattered handling marks and a 1/2" hairline crack at the base of the right grip. All numbered parts appear to be matching by assembly number and the mechanism will require some mechanical attention as the hand spring is broken. When pointed down, the revolver times and locks up properly so a new hand spring would most likely bring this revolver back into working order. These revolvers employed an interesting "sliding sleeve" chamber system in a rather convoluted but ingenious circumvention of the Rollin White bored-through cylinder patent. (138525-16) {ANTIQUE}

Remington Model 1858 New Model Army Percussion Revolver

Lot # 1278 (Sale Order: 279 of 901)

serial #45088, .44 cal, 8" octagon barrel with a bright very good bore showing a little light scattered oxidation. The metal surfaces of this revolver are a mix of gunmetal and dark gray with scattered small dings, tool marks, light oxidation staining and pinprick pitting. There are two small patches of older reapplied blue above the triggerguard on both sides of the frame that is mostly blending into the surrounding gunmetal. The markings on the barrel are faint but visible and the front sight is a dovetailed wide silver cone. The brass triggerguard is not marked or serialized and is no doubt a later replacement as it is rather poorly fitted to the frame, it has mostly toned to ochre with a few small dings and handling marks. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good condition as lightly refinished long ago with some handling marks, small dings, tiny chips on the bottom edges and some dents at the base. It is difficult to discern but both grip panels appear to be pencil-numbered to the gun and the inspector cartouche is present on the left panel having softened a bit. The cylinder and barrel are matching the frame and the gun stills times and locks up very well with just a little play. (138525-19) {ANTIQUE}

Colt Third Generation Single Action Army Revolver

Lot # 1282 (Sale Order: 283 of 901)

The metal surfaces of this 2004-made revolver retain about 96% factory blue and case-hardened finishes with slight thinning on the grip frame, high edge wear, scratches and a light turn ring on the cylinder. Colt Officers Model Match Single Action Only Revolver

Lot # 1283 (Sale Order: 284 of 901)

Description Update (11/7/17): Is C&R

serial #923170, 38 Special, 6" tapered heavy barrel with an excellent bore. This beautiful 1959-made revolver may have been later converted to single action only. The metal surfaces retain about 98% high polish blue with light edge wear at the muzzle and very light turn ring on the cylinder. The barrel, cylinder and extractor star have factory rework numbers (501) and the deep lustrous blue is likely a factory refurbish. The Rampant Colt is crisp on the sideplate, which is numbered to the gun, but barrel markings are slightly soft. The hammer and lockwork are interesting, the double action sear was removed and the hammer has an internal relief cut below the rear arch making it a lightweight hammer. To prevent from over-cocking the hammer a blind screw was installed on the frame and the head modified to fit into the relief cut. The finish and workmanship is factory quality and appears original. The checkered walnut factory service style grips with silver Colt medallions rate excellent and only bear matching assembly numbers. This fifth issue revolver is equipped with factory Patridge front sight and Accro adjustable rear sight exhibiting excellent timing and lock up. A factory letter dated March 11, 2014 indicates this gun was shipped on June 9, 1959 as described above except there is no mention of it shipping as the rarely-seen single action only variation. The gun was shipped to E.K. Pote, R.D. #1, Elverson, Pennsylvania along with one other gun. The gun includes an unlabeled and un-serial numbered Colt two-piece woodgrain box that rates about good to very good with edge wear, storage marks, repairs on all corners of the cover and a couple on the base, plus the "Colt" logo on the cover has faded. There is a little mystery to the source of this revolver's single action only mode but it is still a real beauty. (88467-2) {C&R}

U.S. Model 1911 Semi-Auto Pistol by Colt

Lot # 1284 (Sale Order: 285 of 901)

serial #275159, 45 ACP, 5" WWII era Colt barrel with a lightly frosted bore. This 1918-made pistol has faded to gray with a few traces of finish in the protected areas along with handling wear, stains from oxidation and pitting. The majority of blue is on the controls with complete coverage on the thumb safety but the others worn to partial remnants of the original finish. The double diamond checkered hardwood aftermarket grips rate excellent. All parts appear correct for the time period of manufacture, except as noted and the gun includes a single unmarked magazine with spot-welded base. Factory markings remain crisp as do the U.S. property markings but the inspection mark of Lt. Col. John M. Gibert is slightly soft. Overall, a classic example of a well-used 1911. (88517-4) {MODERN}
