S&W M&P Victory Model DA Revolver

Lot # 833 (Sale Order: 328 of 533)

Smith & Wesson M&P Victory Model Double Action Revolver, #V19456, converted to .38 Spec. cal., 5'' barrel, blued finish, walnut grips, blade front sight with square notch...more rear sight. This revolver had originally been sent to the British as part of the ''Lend-Lease'' assistance act early in WWII and was later stamped with British export proofmarks and returned to the U.S. Stamped on right side of frame with the Smith & Wesson trademark logo, along with ''Made in U.S.A.'' above a London inspection stamp. All markings have been removed from the left side of the frame, including the ''U.S. PROPERTY'' stamp on the top strap. Top and left side of barrel are stamped with the standard S&W logo and patent information, while the butt shows a ''W.B.C.'' inspection stamp. Right side of barrel has the information that was added by the London proof house, ''NP, .38'',.767''' and ''3.5 TONS'', along with the post-war importer's cartridge conversion information. ''S&W'' has been crudely struck out and ''SPL'' has been hand stamped below ''38 CTG'' to show the conversion from .38 S&W to .38 Special. Chambers were then lengthened to accommodate the longer round. All matching numbers on frame, barrel, and cylinder. Condition overall is very good as converted. Metal surfaces have been reblued and retain over 90% of this finish, with a small scratched-out area on the butt and some discoloration around the top strap. Grips show some discoloration but are otherwise very good. Bore shows several dark areas around the muzzle, otherwise bright and very good. Chambers show frosting in the forward areas from firing, otherwise clean and very good. Lock up and timing of the action are excellent. Est.: $400-$500. (C&R)
