Superb James Woodward Best Quality full side lock ejector 12GA shotgun with factory single trigger and original 2 ¾” chambers. Most premium London guns from “Golden Age” have 2 ½” chambers. Marked in high relief hand engraved letters on the front of the frame “Woodward Single Trigger”. The barrels measure 30” and choked full and modified. Measures 14 ½” to the end of the rubber pad. Neutral cast. Approximately 2” drop at the comb and 3” at the heel. Fine bank note engraving with scalloped and chiseled frame. Cocking indicators. Very good plus to almost fine condition (An older high quality English refurbish of which 80%-90% remains. Bright bores with barrels in accepted range of thickness. Dupre was a famous artist, dye maker and gunsmith responsible for striking Ben Franklin medallion after Revolutionary War and engraved medallions and designed coins. He was the maker to French Kings replaced by Boutet. Measures 14 ½” overall with 8 ¾” barrels of .60 caliber ssmoothbore. Wood checkered select stocks. Original flintlock with correct small parts. Good to very good overall condition with minor defects and normal aging. Original Moroccan leather and felt lined deluxe case. The case is very good plus condition. Pair of Cased Colt 1851 London Navies in .36 caliber percussion with iron trigger guard and London address, S/N 27797 & 37924. The pair are contained within an authentic to the period oak case lined in partition style with label in lid. Pistol # 37924 shows 75%-85% bright original blue on the barrel with some pitting on the left front of muzzle and minor scratches. The address is sharp and the edges are crisp. The cylinder shows 75%-85% well defined scene with engagement dates and Colt Patent clearly visible. The cylinder shows 20%-30% thinning blue. The frame lever and hammer show 70%-80% rainbow color case hardening. Traces of blue turning plum on straps. The grips are very good plus with 80%-90% original varnish, minor marks and bruises with crisp bottom edges. All matching visible numbers. Tight action with safety pins intact. Pistol #27792 shows 50%-60% original blue on the barrel with erosion just starting, marks around wedge, slight scratches and normal aging. 18GK-1 JAQUES LA FITTE DAGGER

Lot # 235 (Sale Order: 294 of 774)      

Jean Lafitte the pirate and patriot dagger presented to his biographer and historian of New Orleans shortly before his death. Lafittes exploits fill many books but besides his career as a pirate of fame Lafitte participated in the Battle of New Orleans and was integral to Andrew Jackson’s victory. The blade and silver scabbard are inscribed "QUIEN A MI DUENO OFFENDIERE DE MI LA VENGANZA ESPERE 1814" and translates "HE THAT OFFENDS MY MASTER, HE SHALL I REVENGE 1814". The dagger measures 7” overall with carved and inlaid grip showing blackmoor grip in Spanish style. The blade is 4” by 1 1/8” and fits in the palm of the hand and could be used effectively as a push dagger to a vital organ. The condition is very good plus to almost fine. Charles Luzenberg was a prominent New Orleans surgeon (1805-1848) who died shortly after presentation to his friend Charles Gayarre writer and historian who wrote the history of Louisiana and was the first biographer of Lafitte. The blade and silver scabbard are inscribed "QUIEN A MI DUENO OFFENDIERE DE MI LA VENGANZA ESPERE 1814" and translates "HE THAT OFFENDS MY MASTER, HE SHALL I REVENGE 1814". The dagger measures 7” overall with carved and inlaid grip showing blackmoor grip in Spanish style. The blade is 4” by 1 1/8” and fits in the palm of the hand and could be used effectively as a push dagger to a vital organ. The condition is very good plus to almost fine. Colt Paterson Model 1839 carbine, S/N 339 in .52 caliber with mismatched cylinder (Probably factory error) in very good plus to near fine condition. The barrel shows original brown going to patina with some pebbly erosion on the surface. The frame straps and guard show 75% to 85% bright blue. The bottom of the frame shows 50%-70% case hardening drifting and toning slightly. The stocks are also very good to almost fine with 75%-85% varnish, excellent fit, minor scratches and some minor mars. The cylinder shows most scene only slightly light with Colts name and patent sharp. Some scratches on the cylinder. Pair of James Purdey exposed hammer 12GA shotgun in original leather over oak case with Purdey label in lid, S/N 10528 & 10529. Originally made in 1879 and English re-barreled in 1971 showing British nitro proofs and 2 ½” chamber marking. Gun #1 is choked improved cylinder in both barrels. Elaborately chiseled in high relief on fences showing leaf design. Very tight scroll and floral engraving. The barrels measure 30” with straight stock. The stock measures 14 3/8” to the end of thick butt plate. The barrels are excellent. The frame is bright metal and good with some wear and minor erosion with slight pitting that has been cleaned. The stocks are very good plus as refinished. Gun #2 is well matched to #1 in length, choke and configuration. In similar condition. The case is good to very good with minor repairs. The name “F. Important Sam Colt Presented 1862 Police to Mrs. John B. Floyd in its original book case. An iconic and well known pistol most recently illustrated in the Colt Engraving book (Full page #182). Only 1 of 2 known presentations made by Colt to ladies, the other to Mrs. Cobb. J.B. Floyd was Secretary of War during the Civil War and received a group of presentation Colts from the hands of Gustave Young. This subject Colt shows deluxe and profuse engraving executed by the hand of the master himself Gustave Young. The scrolls are very intricate with small heads, extra coverage and hand cut barrel address and Colt’s Patent. The pistol shows original fine checkered ivory grips with super deluxe checkered bottoms. S/N 781 and all matching. This pistol is in very good condition showing most silver on the straps and traces of finish on the balance of metal surfaces. The original bookcase is inscribed on spine with matching inscription. Only about a dozen original book cases are known to Colt Collectors in all of the models of percussions and approximately 5 in 1862
