Lot # 91 (Sale Order: 90 of 399)

Early and highly desirable "T" prefix specimen of the high quality manufactured Smith & Wesson Model 76 machine gun with one original 36 round magazine marked “9mm ctg”. The standard civilian production guns were serialized with a "U" prefix U101 through U6100. There was a small navy contract produced and delivered during the Viet Nam war. This specimen exhibits a nice matte finish which is superior to several of the other "T" prefix guns this cataloger has observed. With production starting in 1967 and running through 1974, the Smith & Wesson model 76 machine guns are in the process of becoming Curio & Relic eligible, just as the original M16’s are, and in six years all of these original guns will attain Curio and Relic status. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent smooth blue finish just starting to lose some of its sheen on the receiver tube. Black hard rubber of swing-out shoulder loop extremely fine Composite grip also near excellent. Magazine retains nearly all of its gray green finish. Bore is near excellent shiny and bright. Bolt extremely fine. A very attractive and fine specimen of a model which has been gaining popularity as not only a Viet-Nam era machine gun, but also as a very fun recreational shooter.
