Lot contains: A) British Royal Navy 1879 Pattern Midshipman's dirk which measures 25" overall with an 18" blade etched with the cipher of King George V, decorative scroll work and naval motifs. Brass fittings with detailed lion's head pommel, fish-skin grip with triple wire wrap intact. Brass mounted leather scabbard is engraved between the ring mounts "R.S. Welley". CONDITION: The blade is mostly bright with small areas of minor dark staining. Scabbard is in very good condition showing moderate use and wear. B) Cased pair of British Royal Navy Captain's epaulettes, bright gold and silver bullion faces, reverse with blue silk pad and leather backing embossed "Moore, Scantlebury & Coote 15, Ordnance Row, The Hard Portsea, Portsmouth". Japanned tin case with deep red velvet interior, top with brass makers tag reading" Mathews & Co Portsmouth Limited" and brass plate engraved "C.C. Boulton R.N.". CONDITION: Very good. This beautiful spear-point features an 8" blade that is stamped George Butler and Co. Trinity Works, Sheffield, England (post 1890). Has a German Nickel guard, single piece checkered ebony bag style handle, and an overall length 12-1/4". Comes in an original, maker marked leather sheath with safety. Sheath is stamped Butler with the key logo, Sheffield. Maker marked sheaths are extremely rare. Lot contains (A) Third Reich era hunting cutlass, (B) Third Reich era forestry cutlass, (C) Imperial era forestry cutlass, and (D) Imperial era forestry dirk. (A) The Hunting cutlass made "Carl Eickhorn" is in overall near mint condition. The triple etched blade is in near mint condition with light runner marks and a few scattered light marks. The nickel plated cross guard and pommel are in near mint condition with only light natural patina. These fittings hold firmly in place the near mint condition stag grip, which has the "Deutsche Jägerschaft" emblem attached to the center of the grip. The leather scabbard with nickel plated fittings is also in near mint condition with a natural patina, and is complete with the correct frog. (B) The Third Reich Forestry Dagger made by "Carl Eickhorn" is overall in near mint condition. The blade triple etched blade is in near mint + condition with only a few small light marks near the blade tip. The brass hilt and hand guard are in near mint condition with acorn adorned bone grip plates attached. One of the acorns on the bone grip has become detached from it's mounting stud. The leather scabbard is in near mint condition with a few very small dents to the upper and lower fittings. This cutlass comes with a green portepee attached. (C) The Imperial Forestry Cutlass made by "ALCOSO" is overall in excellent condition. The "ALCOSO" marked, triple etched blade is in very good condition. The etching of the blade is very light, with an even graying and freckling from age. The brass hilt and hand guard are in near mint condition, with light wear to the original gold plating on the high points. The stag grip plates are in near mint condition and feature three brass acorns on the front of the grip. The three acorns on the grips reverse have fallen off, leaving only the studs exposed. The leather scabbard is in near mint condition, with a few very light dents to the lower brass fitting and even patina throughout both upper and lower fittings. (D) The Imperial Forestry Dirk is overall in excellent condition. The "WKC" marked, double etched blade is in excellent condition. The blades etching is light with an even graying and uniformed scratches running the length of the blade. The brass cross guard and pommel cap hold in place the acorn adorned stag grip, and are in excellent condition. One of the brass acorns has been lost. This dirk does not include a scabbard. Imperial German Damascus Blade Hunting Dagger.

This Imperial German Hunting Dagger with Damascus Blade is in, overall, very good condition. The 19" Damascus steel blade in very good condition. There are some scattered light marks along both cutting edges and a few areas of freckling which are masked by the Damascus design. Two straight blood grooves flank a raised, curving, gilded spine. The blade is unmarked. The cross guard, made of plated brass or nickel, is ornately designed using a boar's head at each end of the guard, and a central motif with a pheasant. The clam shell is also made of a plated nickel or brass, and features a stag head surrounded by an oak and laurel leaf wreath. The stag grip is in near mint condition and is loosely held in place by the upper and lower silvered fittings. The scabbard throat fitting is silver plated and features two hand enhanced swans, which were meant to hold the now lost hanger. The scabbard throat fitting shows a dark line from the original soldering. The scabbard itself is made of leather and is wrapped in what appears to be shark skin. The skin shows light scattered marks throughout. The lower fitting of the scabbard is missing. Condition: Dimensions:

This very sword was in the possession of Admiral Komura when he was aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. This sword was surrendered by Komura to Admiral Halsey and was given to Henry R. Bucon, Yeoman First Class, who was a member of Admiral Halsey's Flag Allowance staff. Sword was given to Yeoman Bucon by Lieutenant Commander W.J. Kitchell, Admiral Halsey's Flag Lieutenant. Sword itself sports a 25" blade and one piece water tempered blade in fine condition. Japanese Naval Officer's mounts with knot and same saya as pictured in the accompanying documentation from Yeoman Bucon including his discharge, his separation from Naval service, photographs of the USS Missouri and surrender daggers and swords, letter from Halsey, and menu for the victory dinner, signed by Halsey and all important Naval personnel during the Japanese surrender. Good Shinto Wakizashi Signed in Full By Noboyuki with Kikiumon in Shirasaya with Full Mounts.

The 21" blade with extremely active, almost sudare type temper line in tang with seven character signature and finely cut kikiumon. One home, uncut, with perfect patination. The blade in full polish with no flaws other than one very minor ware high in the shinogi does not detract. Soft metal mounts comprising fujikashura with shakudo nanako dragons, shakudo dragon menuki, soten style tsuba, and polished black lacquer scabbard with raised gold Tokugawa mon. CONDITION: Mounts are good overall, tsuba appears to have gold paint rather than gilding. Condition: Dimensions: CORRECTION: This lot includes two documents: (A) NBTHK "Kantei-sho" Certificate and (B) Sword registration issued by Fukushima Prefecture Board of Education. An excellent samurai sword with Tang signed Kikumon Yamashiro no Kami Fujiwara Nobutoshi. Era Mid Edo Period (about 337 years old). Sword registration issued by Yokyo Prefecture Board of Education. Dated 1952 (copy) (original shall be returned to the local authority). "Daimyo" Registration: This sword was registered in 1952, the initial year that the current sword registration system started in Japan. Such swords, which were registered in a few years after the system started, are called "Daimyo" (feudal lord) registration swords as it was Daimyo or other Daimyo-like wealthy families who owned many precious swords and were asked by the Japanese government to register their swords in the early stage of the newly introduced registration system to familiarize it to the society. Accordingly, there are many precious swords in the Daimyo registration swords, and many collectors prefer them. This blade was signed by Yamashiro no Kami Fujiwara Nobutoshi, who was a very famous sward maker in period Tenna 1681-1684. The emperor of Japan hired him to make Japan’s sword for the emperor and members of the royal family. The emperor of Japan ranted him the right to use 16 petals chrysanthemums as symbol. He was also awarded the highest rank of the sword maker. The blade is finely polished and is in excellent condition. The blade is well forged and has nice forging grains. The blade is attested by NBTHK, the most prestigious non-profit sword organization in Japan, in separate certificates. The original NBTHK certificate comes with. The blade: Status is Tokubetsu-Kicho (????, i.e. specially precious). Dated: MAR.24.2017 with #1006922. Hamon temper lines are active and beautiful. Boshi head lines are clear and beautiful. Koshirae mountings are artistic and beautiful. (dragon). The black lacquered Saya has the family crests of the daimyo family of Tokugawa clan, known as Mitsuba-aoi, painted in gold. The Tokugawa clan (Tokugawa-shi or Tokugawa-uji) was a powerful daimyo family of Japan. Thus it can be proved that its owner is a member of this illustrious family. He was a daimyo or an upper-class warrior. Katana Tsuba is a SUPERB signed Tsuba. Signature: Soheishi Nyudo SOTEN-Tsukuru. The 14" blade with elaborate Choji temper line. The tang is uncut with one hole and a five character Tadakni signature unquestionably genuine and beautiful hawk feather file marks. Plain copper habaki. The scabbard and handle elaborately carved in high relief with dragons with inset pearl eyes. CONDITION: Blade is stained but not pitted. Temper line clearly visible. One tiny chip at point and a fragment missing from the very tip of point. The tang has lovely patination and no rust. Scabbard is excellent, as is the handle. A very fine Japanese sword. Very Fine 18th Century Hungarian Saber of Kilij Form in the Ottoman Manner with Scabbard.

Lot # 612 (Sale Order: 13 of 367)      

This splendid heavy saber displays characteristic Ottoman Kilij form, however, it appears to have both Cyrillic lettering as well as Arabic calligraphy. The 27-1/2" Kilij blade is 1-1/2" wide and etched and Damascened in gold with both Arabic and Cyrillic letters in imitation of an Ottoman Kilij. It appears to have a date on the left side and Ottoman cartouche on left with Cyrillic etched and gilt letters at ricasso. Blade is pattern welded with long yelman, brass cross guard and hilt of Turkish form with ivory grip scales. Scabbard with finely engraved brass mounts, covered in fine shagreen. CONDITION: Blade is infine condition, and appears to have been blued at some time. All gilt finish is visible and mostly intact with only very minor wear. Ivory grip scales with small chip where grip joints with cross guard on both sides, otherwise, very good with fine patina. Brass mounts are fine throughout with only extremely minor dents. Original shagreen is mostly intact with some original finish. One of the most impressive swords we have seen, it has been our pleasure to catalog. Further research on the Cyrillic and Arabic inscriptions could only enhance the desirability of this fine Kilij. Condition: Dimensions:

A very heavy 33" blade of the finest version Damascus steel, fully signed with parasol mark indicative of the finest Persian blade makers, ususally for royal patrons. Pattern is of the ladder of the prophet of Muhammad and is 1-4/8" wide blade. The Indian Talwar hilt of characteristic form is finely Damascened with gold flowers and leaves. CONDITION: Blade is in superb condition with magnificent watered Wootz pattern visible throughout and minor wear at extreme tip, and a few insignificant spots on left side of blade. The gold parasol and signature in reserve are in excellent condition. The hilt is excellent throughout with only minor wear in expected areas. All swords from the Figiel collection are regarded as extremely important by collectors of the finest Middle Eastern blades and this Talwar is no exception. Marked in Mr. Figiel's red paint "A-252". Extremely Fine & Rare 18th/19th Century Ottoman Shamshir With Fine Watered Wootz Blade & Superb Heav

The fine 33" long Shamshir blade decorated at forte with heavy gold arabesque in a panel. The spine with 7" floral meander. The steel cross guard damascened in gold with panel and floral meander the entire hilt decorated en suite. The shaped horn grips are original. The chape locket and rings of steel gold decorated en suite. The original leather covered scabbard with gold decorated panels on left side. CONDITION: Blade is in excellent condition, with fine watered Wootz pattern visible throughout and gold decoration pristine. The chape and locket are of fine Damascus steel. Owners name is engraved on left side of locket, hard to read but perhaps saying "Osman Pasha". This sword was in fact the personal property of Osman Nuri Pasha (1832 – April 1900). Osman Pasha was an Ottoman field marshal, and was the hero of the siege of Plevna in 1877. Although unsuccessful in defending the city, he was awarded the title of Gazi (warrier or veteran) as a result of that siege. Please consult Wikepedia for a short biography of Osman Nuri Pasha. The scabbard with full silver mounts is embossed with crescent moons, foliage, and beading. Two carrying rings, long chape and locket, original leather wrapped scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is good, early form Kilij, possibly of Mamluk origin. Blade with watered Wootz pattern mostly visible. Also visible is a well defined temper line. This Kilij has an unusually long blade with pronounced lengthy yelman, typical of early blades forged in the 17th century. The Shami Wootz pattern is loose but pronounced throughout, characteristic of blades crafted in the city of Damascus in that period. Most likely remounted in the 18th century. The horn hilt with plain silver cross guard and acorn finials banded with silver. Horn grip is of characteristic form. The scabbard is silver mounted with two rings embossed "Chape" and lengthy locket. The one ring is struck at top with Ottoman Tughra. Blade is slightly gray but Wootz pattern is strong. CONDITION: Horn grips in fair condition. Silver cross guard good; silver banding around grip is dented and distorted. Scabbard mounts show considerable wear and denting.
