(C) Rare Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Single Shot 20 Gauge Shotgun (1913).

Lot # 1489 (Sale Order: 489 of 613)

Full choke marked barrel with two line Winchester barrel address and "NICKEL STEEL FOR SMOKELESS AMMUNITION" marking on left side of barrel. The 1885 was designed by America's foremost firearms designer John Moses Browning. More variations of the Model 1885 were produced than any other model produced by Winchester. With this being said the 20 gauge shotgun was one of the rarest variations and are rarely encountered; most are later production guns made with blue steel finish and walnut two piece stocks with hard rubber buttplates. Most examples are found in the 110,000 to 115,000 serial range and this example falls right into the middle. CONDITION: Barrel retains most all finish with slight loss at muzzle and thinning at address area. Receiver is blue with over 75% finish remaining with common flaking of finish that occurred during this time frame. Two piece walnut stocks are very good with most all varnish remaining. Typical period storage dings and bruising exists but is very limited to bottom of forearm. Stocks are proud to metal. Buttstock has a crack emitting from tang towards butt and another crack on right side of wrist (this could be repaired). Overall a better than average condition example of a very rare variation of the 1885 Single Shot. Factory letter states Model 1885 Serial No. 113730 had its serial number applied June 12th, 1913. No other information available. Barrel Length: 26" Choke: Full FFL Status: Curio & Relic Gauge: 20 Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1885 High Wall Paperwork: Yes Serial Number: 113730

(A) Fine Burnside Model 1864 Civil War Carbine.

Lot # 1495 (Sale Order: 495 of 613)

The Burnside Carbines saw much use and earned high praises during the Civil War. They were manufactured from 1857-1865 and were available in five different models, each producing a unique feature that was added. This would be a standard 4th or 5th Model. This is technically referred to as a 5th Model as it has the right side centrally located guide screw. Features a round barrel, single band, post front sight, folding military style carbine rear sight, case colored frame, outside hammer, percussion, walnut stocks, rear stock sling swivel, and rifle steel buttplate. CONDITION: This specimen is missing its sling bar and the serial that would be stamped on the block is missing and the block has been refinished. This model was produced from 1863-1865 only. Top of barrel is stamped cast steel, 1864 and the frame is stamped Burnside and also dated 1864. The frame is basically patina with flashes of color, but has mostly patterned out. Lower lever still retains approximately 25% of its high polished fire blue finish. Stocks are excellent, proud to metal, with a couple minor chips at sideplate. Left side of stock has two highly visible cartouche stamps that denote inspectors George Curtis, the main inspector for the 5th Model carbine. The bore shows well defined rifling but does have the usual black powder abrasion. Action is fine. Far above average 5th Model that has seen use. The fall of 1864 saw 15,000 in field service. Only the Sharps and Spencer carbines were issued in larger numbers. They accompanied a large number of Sherman's army in the Atlanta campaign. They were in the hands of the 7th Michigan Cavalry of George Armstrong Custer and were involved in one of the most notorious battles of the Civil War at Ashby's Gap as federals chased General Jubal Early. Barrel Length: 21" Caliber/Bore: .54 Percussion FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Burnside Model: 1864 Paperwork: No Serial Number: 11933
