Mexican War Silver Congressional Lifesaving Medal
Mexican War - Loss of the Somers Medal Obverse: A brig under topsails and foresails lying on her beam ends. Legend: "SOMERS NAVIS AMERICANA". Exergue: "ANTE VERA CRUZ DEC.10TH.1846". Reverse: Three boats rowing to the rescue, a wreck in the distance. Legend: "PRO VITIS AMERICANORUM' CONSERVATIS" with "II" engraved in exergue. Struck by order of Congress and presented to Officers and men of foreign vessels who came to the brig U.S. Somers assistance. Medal is Julian NA-24b. Silver, 57.7mm and engraved by Charles Cushing Wright. During the Mexican War while chasing a blockade runner off Vera Cruz on Dec. 8, 1846, the United States brig "U.S.S. Somers" capsized and foundered. Of the crew, 32 died, seven were rescued. On March 3, 1847, Congress authorized medals to be struck to present to those who participated in life-saving efforts. The medal is housed in a wood box measuring 4.75" x 4.75" x 1.5" featuring geometric inlays.

World War I diorama featuring a German U-boat being captured by a United States ship with a commercial liner in background. Diorama image is depiction of artwork by L.A. Shafer that was used on Victory Liberty Bond poster during WWI. Diorama measures 17" x 31" x 10" and exhibits some loss and chipping to gesso of frame. An interesting folk-art piece.

Civil War period CDV album containing 28-CDV's of men, women and children (some hand-colored). Of note is a full length zouave (72nd or 95th Pennsylvania Infantry) with horn. CDV is not backmarked. Album exhibits damage with losses to spine and pages.
Cased Set of US Navy Epaulets and Hat
Early 20th century cased set of United States Navy epaulets and fore-aft hat by William H. Horstmann Company of Philadelphia. Epaulettes present rank insignia of a Lieutenant (JG). Case also contains fore-aft hat, bow tie, pair of dress belts and hat tallies for the USS Delaware and USS Florida. Material housed in japaned tin case with painted initials "E.L.W.". In case is photograph (8x10) of Ship Building Ways No. 1 dated September 21, 1914.
