*Auction Highlight* Morgan & Peace $1 Mixed Roll Steel Strong Shotgun Wrapper w/Covered Ends (fc)

Lot # 134.5 (Sale Order: 129 of 472)

*Auction Highlight* Morgan & Peace $1 Mixed Roll Steel Strong Shotgun Wrapper w/Covered Ends. Great Original Roll of Morgan & Peace Dollars. The Two ends are cove...morered.ÊAny dates & any condition possible inside. Note you will receive a roll completely similar to the photo. We have a large hoard of these rolls & they all look exactly alike. We have had great feedback on the rolls so far.Ê Some lucky bidders have gotten key dates & PL's. The roll is held in an old "Steel Strong Automatic" Wrapper Dated from 1921. The Roll is also faintly stamped "Banker Trust of Philadelphia, Central City Office, Walnut Street at Juniper". I researched that name and the Bank closed in the post-Crash of '29 Depression period (my research showed that it failed on Dec 22, 1930). We received this incredible consignment from a private collector. The consignee gave us his father's entire estate hoard of shotgun rolled coins.

Mixed small cents 1c orig shotgun roll, 1858 Flying Eagle Cent, 1898 Indian Cent other end

Lot # 139 (Sale Order: 134 of 472)

Mixed small cents 1c orig shotgun roll, 1858 Flying Eagle Cent, 1898 Indian Cent other end. The roll is held in an old Seal Strong wrapper. Actual roll pictured i...mores the roll you will get. A great original bank shotgun roll with very tight ends. We have been getting excellent feedback on these rolls. Were being told that close to half the roll are teens, some with mintmarks, there are a few Indians in all the rolls, most of the rolls have steel cents. They seem to be PQ Wheaties rolls. These shotgun rolls are all from a new consignee. They are all frrom one Estate.

***Auction Highlight*** Take Ayer's Pills, 3c Rose (EP9) Encased Postage 3c Grades vf++ (fc)

Lot # 145 (Sale Order: 140 of 472)

***Auction Highlight*** Take Ayer's Pills, 3c Rose (EP9) Encased Postage 3c Grades vf++. Not strictly stamps, coins or paper money. Encased Postage became, for a ...morebrief period, a medium with which to buy and trade goods and services. In early July 1862, shortly after the beginning of the Civil War, there was virtually no gold, silver or copper coins available for use of trade or to give change. If one was fortunate or wealthy enough to own ÔÕgreenbacks,Ó there was a premium to buy federal coins. Coins were being hoarded, which made it increasingly difficult to pay for daily needs such as haircuts, milk and the like. At this time some enterprising merchants issued scrip with values up to a dollar advertising their wares, and later tokens also came to the market place. It was during this period that Fractional or Postage Currency notes were developed in the form of small pieces of paper. The latter showed current issues of stamps with their values, thus representing an exchangeable and accepted piece of currency. Originally distributed to Army paymasters, it was not until later, September 1862, that these notes were distributed to the general public. Other actions by the federal government eventually led to the Act of July 17, 1862 which provided for the use of postage stamps as monetary vehicles and thus Encased Postage entered the foray. Due to the fragility of postage stamps, a method of protection had to be developed to prolong their useful life, thus came about the encasing of the stamps. John Gault received a patent; No, 1627 on August 2, 1862. His encasing unit comprised two discs of brass about the size of a quarter, the stamp with itÕs four corners folded down was placed between a mica face, a piece of cardboard against the back side, thus sealing the stamp between the two brass discs. The back casing was left blank in order to allow advertisements by interested parties, for a fee of course. So is it a coin, a stamp or a bank note? We do know that these relics of our past are collected by enthusiasts in all fields and that ÒthereÕs still gold in them there hills!Ó A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin
