(A) A RARE MODEL 1826 FLINTLOCK NAVAL PISTOL BY W.L. EVANS.

Lot # 3001 (Sale Order: 1 of 711)

All 1826 naval pistols are scarce. Simeon North produced 3,000, but William Evans only produced 1,000. Barrel with stirrup ramrod, deeply struck US with proof. The lock stamped US, WE Evans, dated 1830 at tail. Walnut full stock with steel belt hook and steel mounts. Pistol is particularly interesting, as Flayderman states the 1830 date should be vertical, whereas subject pistol date is horizontal. CONDITION: Barrel is good, with some pitting throughout. Lock is pitted, but with clear markings and date stamp. Mounts with minor pitting. Stock cracked through at butt. No visible inspector's cartouche on wood. Action is crisp, except for frizzen, which is weak. Bore is fair. This rare pistol appears to be original flint, however as 98% of these 1826 naval pistols are reconverted, it is likely that subject pistol is a very skillful reconversion. Barrel Length: 8 - 5/8" Caliber/Bore: .54 Smoothbore FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Evans Model: 1826 Naval Serial Number: NSN

(A) AN 1813 (?) CONTRACT UNITED STATES FLINTLOCK MARTIAL PISTOL WITH BARREL MARKED DERINGER PHILA PA

Lot # 3003 (Sale Order: 3 of 711)

Flayderman illustrates a similar gun but with a completely different stock configuration. Handle contour and configuration are not standard. Long barrel is properly marked. Lock of correct configuration but is unmarked. Walnut full stock has different configuration from example illustrated in Flayderman. Perhaps 56 of these were made for the State of Maryland. CONDITION: Barrel is good, mostly smooth patina. Small brass foresight as is proper for this model. Double neck cock, some minor pitting on pan and frizzen screws. Lock functions perfectly. Brass furniture with trigger guard corresponding to image in Flayderman. Stock has one chip forward of cock plate. A large depression is at the extreme right side of butt. Condition of lock is good and appears untouched. Original flint. One side nail screw has been replaced. Stock with old hand-worn patina and minor marks. A repaired split on one side does not detract. Bore is fair. This is an extremely rare pistol and the fact that it does not conform does not mean it is not an authentic Henry Deringer flintlock pistol. Barrel Length: 10" Caliber/Bore: .55 Smoothbore FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Derringer Model: Dragoon Serial Number: NSN
