Narrative: Skeeter Skelton, retired U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs Agent, as well as Deputy Sheriff in Deaf Smith County, Texas, was a colorful character, and one of the best known and beloved firearms writers of his era. Skelton authored numerous articles and books, often filled with humerous story-telling, based on his many authentic adventures.

Notes: The Colt John Wayne Commemorative issue was in 1982. No. X25225 was an approved prototype needed for pre-production and had been accepted by Wayne Enterprises, which was managed by Michael Wayne. When production began, ivory grips were standard issue on this model. Revolver had been retained as one of at least two approved prototype samples, by the factory Archives collection. The other bore no. X25226.
