(N) AUTO ORDNANCE BRIDGEPORT 1928 THOMPSON SPECIALLY FITTED WITH CUSTOM MADE FRONT SIGHT AND KNIGHT’

Lot # 1001 (Sale Order: 1 of 637)

This is an Auto Ordnance Bridgeport manufactured Thompson in a reproduction hard case with unnumbered original “New York, N.Y., USA” 50 round drum with nickel rotor. Also includes one unmarked, one 1920 patent date, and two Bridgeport 20 round magazines. The consignor designed and machined a front sight which faithfully matched the height and position of where the original sight would be on this gun and looks appropriate to the gun, except that the newly machined piece has extended threads which are designed to take Knight’s Armament MK23USP suppressor as manufactured for the H&K 23 pistol. In short, this gun is equipped with an included new-in-box MK23/USP CAL. 45 silencer. The consignor retained the silencer he had been using with this gun. The original front sight/compensator for this gun is not present. Gun is marked with on receiver with typical Auto-Ordnance Bridgeport markings on right side. On left side the “US” in front of “Model" has been removed, as well as the “1” of A1 and a “C” has been substituted. “AO” has been added before the serial number as on so many other Thompsons. NFA registery shows “Auto Ordnance” as manufacturer with serial number as it appears on this firearm. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine grey refinish on receiver with somewhat more lustrous finish on a “S” marked Savage replacement barrel which has some loss of finish to a gray patina towards the muzzle. Buttplate finish thinning to a gray patina at high edges. Wood is extremely fine with a rich brown color and light handling marks. Drum has an extremely fine dull matte refinish. Magazines have extremely fine lustrous original finish. Mechanics are fine. Bore has shiny lands, turning dark in the grooves. This is a select fire machine gun. Knights Armament Suppressor is new in box. The Thompson needs no introduction the machine gun enthusiast. It is an American icon. The addition of a silencer as an accessory was and is a brilliant idea! THESE ARE NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEMS AND REQUIRE BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THE MACHINE GUN IS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. SUPPRESSOR WILL TRANSFER SEPARATELY. BOTH ITEMS ARE FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON ATF FORMS 3 OR 4. (N) GERMAN MP43 MACHINE GUN CAPTURED FROM 6TH SS MOUNTAIN DIVISION WITH CAPTURED NAZI FLAG (DEACTIVA

Lot # 1004 (Sale Order: 4 of 637)

This weapon was captured in January 1945 during the last German offensive in the West. Brass plate affixed to left side of buttstock, “CAPTURED BY/2ND PLAT.AT Co.-276TH INF./FROM/6SS MTN.Div. NORD/AT WINGEN, FRANCE 1/45”. Original model marking “MP43” on left side of receiver. Serial number is actually 1743g and weapon was made in 1944. Receiver stamping is by “cos” (Mertz Werke) with C.G. Haenel final proof (eagle/”37"). Barrel and gas port also marked by C.G. Haenel (fxo). Gas block marked by Erma (eagle/”280"). Buttstock hardware also made by Mertz Werke. Serial numbers match between receiver, buttstock and pistol grip assembly. Stock detent pin has a wire running from the loop of the retaining spring across the right-hand side of receiver and attached to hand guard; this appears to be a post war measure to keep the gun from being easily disassembled. Grips are of Kunstloff material (hard brown bakelite). Operating rod and bolt are proof marked by C.G. Haenel and match in serial number to gun. Bolt is early type without cut out at extractor with triangular firing pin. Main spring is unusual in that it is only 5/8" in diameter. Buttstock is of the standard profile 5-1/2" from heel to toe. Although bolt and operating rod move freely within receiver with proper tension, the chamber of this weapon has been plugged by adding weld, rendering it unserviceable. It appears that the weld is confined just to plugging the chamber and not to welding the barrel to the receiver. There is a spot weld at the rear of gas block which welds gas block to hand guard. This weapon includes two 30-round magazines marked “MP44” and one green canvas magazine pouch with stamped metal buttons. Nazi flag accompanying this lot is taken from the Burgermeister’s office in Volkingen, the first town captured by the 2nd Bn., 276th Inf. Regiment in their attack across the Saar River. Also included in this lot are copies of the original documentation authorizing the weapons exit from the European Theater of Operations, a certified copy of the original amnesty registration form, evidence that this weapon was on display at the Army War College Museum, and a document which states that this weapon was used as a display prop in the film Taps (1981) in the movie home of the General portrayed by actor George C. Scott. PROVENANCE: Personal Collection of B.G. (RET) Theo C. Mataxis, Veteran of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and adviser to Afghanistan forces fighting against Soviet occupation during the 1980s. Mataxis’ Son related to this cataloger that his Father elected to deactivate the guns he brought home in Theater because, “it made the administration of transporting them so much easier and less troublesome than if they were live guns." CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is good with about 70% original blue finish remaining on metal surfaces with a liberal scattering of pitting throughout with quite a bit of brown patina. There are also some scratches to finish showing bare metal and a museum identification number in textile marker on bottom of trigger guard. There is heat discoloration to metal where gas block is welded to hand guard. Hand grips are in good condition with some dings and handling marks, wooden buttstock has numerous dings and handling marks. This weapon should be of high interest to collectors with its provenance to a notable German unit from World War II combined with the fact that it is an all matching original example. The fact that it also has ties to BG (RET) Theo C. Mataxis only enhances its value. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 5 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE DEACTIVATED MACHINE GUN. THIS GUN MAY BE REACTIVATED UPON APPROVAL OF APPLICATION TO THE BATF. (N) FABULOUS USMC USED FULLY TRANSFERABLE ORIGINAL CADILLAC GAGE STONER 63 MACHINE GUN (CURIO AND RE

Lot # 1008 (Sale Order: 8 of 637)

This Cadillac Gage Stoner is among the most important and scarce of the Vietnam War machine gun collectibles available for private ownership. There are only a few original Cadillac Gage Stoner machine guns in the National Firearms act registry which are fully transferable to individuals and this is one of them. Research has revealed that this is a gun that was manufactured on 11/18/1965 and sent to the United States Marine Corps on 1/12/1966. Returned to Cadillac Gage on 8/30/1966 and then sent to the St. Clair Shore Police Department in St. Clair Shore, Michigan on 2/5/1968. Since that time it has passed through the hands of Dr. Leon Mitchell in Massachusetts and later to Ralph Merrill in Utah. The United States Marine Corps returned 286 rifles to Cadillac Gage in August of 1966. Almost all of these were destroyed by them, but a very few were saved and sent to law enforcement agencies in Michigan, California, and New York. This is the only one that was sent to the St. Clair Shore Police Department. The Stoner was originally designed in 1963 and is a landmark design for a modular weapons system which can be a rifle, carbine, light box magazine fed machine gun, belt-fed machine gun, or vehicle mounted machine gun. A few of these original guns saw service in Vietnam in the hands of the Navy and Marine Corps. This is a magazine fed select fire specimen and includes four original Stoner marked magazines, an original vintage Stoner two-magazine pouch, and one black web sling. (N) OUTSTANDING MATCHING NUMBERED GERMAN WORLD WAR II MP-40 MACHINE GUN (CURIO AND RELIC).

Lot # 1011 (Sale Order: 11 of 637)

Fine Erma manufactured specimen of the classic German machine gun marked "ayf 42" on end cap with numerous Nazi proof marks throughout. Both "WaA280" and "WaA44" denoting both Erma and cos (Mertzwerke) manufacture. Mertzwerke was a subcontractor for sheet metal parts for many German weapons including the MP40. Actual serial number is 6670j; visible numbers appear matching on receiver tube, lower assembly, swing out shoulder loop, bolt, mainspring assembly, sight hood, barrel resting bar, barrel retention nut and even the rear sight. Barrel appears to be an unnumbered replacement. The MP40 was designed to be a compact burst fire weapon originally intended for dismounted vehicle and armor troops but as time passed it was fielded in ever increasing numbers to all unit formations. This specimen was manufactured in 1942. Production continued until it was subsumed by the fielding of the MP44/Sturmgewehr weapons as Germany devoted more and more of its sheet metal manufacturing capacity to that arm and less to the MP40. Accessories include one original Erma manufactured magazine. Overall appearance and finish are very good to fine. Over 75% original blue finish thinning to a grey patina at the high edges with the exterior of the barrel and barrel hook almost devoid of finish. Outer high surfaces of barrel nut also almost devoid of finish. Bakelite has typical handling marks with one barely noticeable chip at the detent knob. Mechanics are fine. Bore has some slight roughness but still shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. This is a fully automatic only machine gun. A very nice German World War II collectible which is seldom seen with as many matching parts as this one has. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2019-10-75. Lot # 1013 (Sale Order: 13 of 637)

Extremely attractive Colt Commercial Model 1928 Browning water cooled machine gun as registered by Charles Erb of Fredericktown, PA, and so marked on right hand sideplate, with added serial number in recessed portion after "U.S. NO." and registration serial number also visible engraved at bottom flat of right sideplate. Original Colt markings on left hand sideplate with Argentine property number visible at top of brass trunnion. Brass water jacket cap also very attractive. Wooden grips on pistol handle. Water fill and drain caps with original chains present. Included with this lot is a 1942 manufactured 1917A1 tripod, complete manufacturer's plate attached to leg. Shiny unmarked bolt in receiver. One ammo box and cloth belt are also included with this lot. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish fine to very fine with lustrous blue refinish with some dings visible under the refinish. Bronze trunnion and front cap of water jacket turning a pleasing dull patina with a little bit of green just starting at the trunnion cap. 1928 Colt Commercial style flash hider. Sight ladder and bolt are in the white. Charging handle just starting to turn a gray patina. 1917 A1 World War II era tripod is very fine, with original paint, with brass socket. Leather leg retention strap intact and in good condition. Gun attachment chain and pin are replacements. Mechanics are crisp. Brilliant, bright bore. The Colt 1928 commercial gun was the product of Colt taking the left over World War I contract parts and assembling them into guns, making what new ones were needed and then marketing the guns as "new" models to the post World War I world. Fortunately for the US collector's market, many of the guns purchased by Argentina have found their way back to the United States almost exclusively as parts kits. These are very attractive machine guns and this model of the Browning machine gun is extremely popular at the range, not only for its reliability, but also for its versatility to be able to be readily converted to different calibers. By changing barrels, and spacers without altering the gun, one can readily change it to .30-06, .308, or 8mm Mauser. With a little more work it can be converted to 7.62 Russian. A very handsome piece of old world craftsmanship which still to this day is the very hallmark of quality American gunmaking. Very nice ensemble needing only some ammunition to take to the range for a shooting day. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. (N) EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE MATCHING NUMBERS “ERB” REGISTERED TUBE GERMAN WORLD WAR II MP-40 MACHINE GU

Lot # 1017 (Sale Order: 17 of 637)

Erb registered receiver tube numbered to match a visible matching numbered German WW2 MP-40 parts manufactured by “bnz” (Steyr) in 1941. Early “hook” type bolt also matches lower assembly number “3841e”. Numerous eagle over “623” proofs with Erb’s own added eagle proofs and Logo on the receiver tube. Erb went about making these guns from matching parts kits whenever he could, and had the foresight to realize that the guns would be more attractive if he numbered his registered receiver tubes to match. He did much to aid and abet the collecting and shooting hobby by putting registered tubes together with fine “kits” and taking the time and effort to mark them otherwise with attractive proof-marks. To the layman, there is little to no difference in external appearance between this and a pre-May 1945 brought back gun. Visible numbers appear matching including front sight hood, barrel, unmarked barrel nut, receiver, lower assembly, trigger guard, rear sight, bolt, and arms of swing out shoulder loop. An original leather sling, four original Nazi marked magazines and a U.S. green canvas 7 cell magazine pouch is included. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine combination of lustrous and dull refinish over slight handling marks with some pinpricks discernable in places. Magazines show more pitting under an old refinish, but original proofs are clearly visible and the magazines appear to be very serviceable. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is fine shiny and bright with some light pitting midway down. Bolt face is very fine. This is a full-auto only machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. As the most recognizable German machine pistol of world war 2, the MP-40 needs no introduction to the WW2 collector or recreational machine gun enthusiast. Considered by many to be one of the best entry level historical machine guns, it is slow firing, from an open bolt, with magazines, parts, and ammunition readily available. A gun you will take to the range over and over for the sheer fun and simplicity of shooting it. This is a particularly attractive specimen. (N) VERY DESIRABLE DIECASTERS LTD MANUFACTURED AUSTEN MK I MACHINE GUN (PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE).

Lot # 1019 (Sale Order: 19 of 637)

Very scarce and desirable Diecasters Ltd manufactured Austen MK I machine gun. Particularly noteworthy in the production of this gun was the use of diecasting to fabricate the magazine housing and top part of the magazine as well as end cap to expedite the manufacturing process. The Australians improved on the Sten design by incorporating a folding stock and utilizing and enclosed telescoping mainspring after the manner of the German MP-40. Even the grip panels closely resemble the MP-40. The addition of the forward vertical pistol grip undoubtedly was inspired by the American Thompson. The resulting Austen (Australian Sten) machine gun is a very comfortable select-fire machine gun to shoot. ATF Registration form shows, "AUSTRALIA” in the manufacture’s block. Includes one original 28 round Austen magazine with remnants of green paint in evidence. Manufacturer’s logo “DC” within a circle on top of magazine housing. Prominent “SAFE” within a diamond shaped border at safe position on receiver tube. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine smooth gray original finish with some slight thinning in places. Grips extremely fine with one forward grip panel slightly loose. Mechanics are fine. Bore has extremely fine shiny rifling turning dark in the grooves. Bolt face is very fine. This is a select fire machine gun. A wonderful combination of the ease of production of the Sten with good ideas borrowed from other successful designs. A great recreational as well as historic machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL. Visible numbers appear matching including receiver, bolt, cover latch, and safety. Stock has the distinctive sweep and profile particular to the MP-30. Safety forward of the trigger guard also indicative of the MP-30. Two original 32 round magazines for the long 9mm cartridges are included. The MP-30 was originally procured as a police weapon and utilized by the Austrian police. It was also marketed world-wide and sold in a number of calibers to order including 7.65 Luger, 7.63 Mauser, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm Steyr, 9mm Mauser, and .45 ACP. It was among the last of the milled steel “sub” machine guns before stamped sheet metal construction became the order of the day. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good to fine original finish with areas thinning to brown patina on the shroud and gray patina at high edges. Top cover release latch, bolt handle, and sling hardware finish handle thinning to a gray brown patina. Trigger guard hardware a pleasing gray patina with some blue in recessed areas. Stock has been sanded so that no markings remain and metal furnishings are slightly proud of the wood. Still, the wood is very clean and presents well, which no doubt was the intention. Mechanics are fine. Bore is fine, shiny and bright. Bolt is fine, slightly polished so number is barely discernible. This is a select-fire machine gun. Quite a nice example of its kind which is one of the last of the milled steel receiver machine guns. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
