Wood stock is devoid of any decorations, with brass reinforcements for lock pins. There is some Japanese kanji written in black ink on the outside and inside barrel channel of the stock. Barrel appears to be signed under some heavy rust on the bottom. Overall length is 54''. Condition is good overall for its age with scratches and bruises to stock. Antique Japanese Wakizashi Sword

Antique Japanese Wakizashi Sword. Traditionally mounted Japanese samurai short sword with a 13.5'' shobu-zukuri style blade, and a small peaked wavy temper line. Unsigne...mored tang with two holes, one being filled with copper. Silver-plated copper habaki collar. The tsuba guard is soft metal with a nice dark patina, silver rim, and one gold over copper filled hitsu-ana hole. Old silk cord handle wrapping with flat copper menuki of an unknown design, and some damage to the wrapping on one side. Iron and gold handle fittings decorated in a bamboo leaf design are a matched set and unsigned. Dark red mottled lacquered saya scabbard showing some chips and scrapes, and one tight hairline crack on the back. Missing the kojiri, or bottom fitting for the scabbard. Blade polish has been smoothed over, but temper is visible. There is some very minor pinprick pitting and the tip of the point has been blunted. Blade circa late 1700's to 1800's. Est.: $500-$700.

Varnished walnut (or fruitwood) stock with basketweave checkering. Varnished walnut halfstock with vacant silver shield at wrist, carved forend, floral carved raised molding at oval butt, checkering at wrist. Condition is good showing on overall gray metal patina, and traces of case hardening at breech tang, hammer and lockplate; plum-blue hammer screw may be a replacement. Reinhard'' be...moretween rear sight and breech, low blade dovetailed front sight, barrel muzzle turned for bullet starter; long floral-engraved rear barrel tang; floral-engraved serpentine lockplate; percussion bolster with German silver cleanout plug; double set triggers; fancy iron triggerguard with rear finger rest; iron crescent buttplate with long floral engraved lower tang; varnished American walnut halfstock with two large and ornate German silver barrel wedge escutcheons and a matching floral engraved German silver patchbox on left side; pewter nosecap; two iron ramrod ferrules; plain hickory ramrod. Circa mid-1850s. Condition is very good, the iron parts showing no original finish but an overall aged brown patina with scattered darkening and light erosion. Halfstock is smooth, sound and shows excellent color. This rifle appears to be all original and untouched; engraving and markings are mostly clear; percussion nipple mashed; blued rear sight likely a later replacement. Action and set triggers function as designed; bore is clean with defined rifling. German immigrant Peter Reinhard was noted not only for the fine workmanship and high quality of his rifles, as reflected in this piece (and their correspondingly high prices when new), but for his prowess as a nationally-renowned competitive shooter. Very Late and High Quality Westley Richards Percussion Side-by-Side Shotgun, #4046. The 27.5'' 12 bore browned twist steel barrels are marked on the concave rib ''Westle...morey Richards, 170 New Bond St., London''. Locks are marked ''Westley Richards'', with English scroll engraving over buttplate tang, receiver, locks, hammers, triggerguard and pineapple decorations. There is also an interesting grip safety that prevents trigger movement unless depressed. The hooked breech has platinum blow-out plugs, and the ebony ramrod has brass ends and appears original. Barrels are proofed with 1868 Birmingham black powder proofmarks, with high-figure English walnut stock. Mfg'd ca. 1870, not long before the introduction of breech-loading double guns. Condition is antique excellent showing some use but no abuse. Trigger and locks function perfectly; bores are dusty but unpitted, one small crack forward of right-hand lock. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. Antique Manhattan Bar Hammer Double Action Six-Shot Pepperbox Pistol, #44, .31 cal., 3-5/8'' barrel marked ''Cast Steel'' between two flutes; bar hammer is marked on left...more side ''Manhattan F.A. Mfg. Co./New York'' in two lines, floral hand-engraved steel frame with integral bag-style gripstraps and loop triggerguard; two-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd mid- to late 1850s. Originally with blued and case hardened finishes. Condition is fine, the barrel group retaining perhaps 70% thin original blue blending with a smooth blue-brown patina, the frame a clean gunmetal gray, the hammer showing mottled case colors, the trigger mostly silvered out. Grips are smooth retaining approx. 95% original varnish with a few minor handling marks, fit well and have excellent color. Markings, engraving and edges are sharp, screw head slots are unusually nice for a pepperbox. Action functions as designed; smoothbores are clean, shiny and perhaps unfired. Pepperboxes are usually found in rough shape; this one is the exception. Est.: $500-$800. (Antique)

In one line; case hardened frame having integral gripstraps marked on right side, ''Sharps Patent/Jan. 25, 1859'' in two lines; hammer with unique rotating striker; one-piece varnished walnut grips. Knurled round button on left side releases barrel group to slide forward for cartridge loading/manual extraction. Mfg'd 1859-74. Originally with blued and case hardened finishes. Condition is excellent, the barrel group retaining approx. 96% deep dark original blue, the frame showing soft case colors, the gripstraps gunmetal gray, the hammer showing mottled case hardening, the trigger with bright fire-blue. Grips are smooth and retain approx. 95% original varnish, a very few minor handling marks, fit well and have excellent, almost rosewood-like grain and color. Markings and edges are very sharp, screw head slots are unblemished. Action functions well; bores are clean and smooth with sharp rifling. A truly exceptional example of its type, of which only about 2,000 were mfg'd. Est.: $750-$1,000. (Antique)

Brooklyn, N.Y.'' on top, twist...mores to left for cartridge loading/ejection; scarce iron frame; twp-piece checkered walnut ''bird's head'' grips. Floral hand engraving appears on both sides and top of frame, backstrap and barrel at breech and muzzle. Likely originally made in full blued finish. Condition is very good retaining no original finish, but smooth metal with clear engraving and markings (one spot of erosion at left muzzle that does not affect markings); no patent date appears on barrel underside. Grips show sharp checkering and retain most of their original varnish (small chip out of right grip at frame juncture). Action is smooth and crisp; barrel hinge is solid; bore appears clean with visible rifling. This Iron Frame model is quite scarce and desirable. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)

Originally with blued and case hardened finishes. Condition is very good, retaining no blue but an overall gunmetal gray color with clear markings; tip-up barrel hinge is solid. Grips are smooth and undamaged, the right side with most original varnish and the left without finish. Action is smooth and crisp; bore is shiny with defined rifling. A popular sidearm among Union officers and enlisted men, this gun's serial number indicates production during the mid-Civil War years. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)

One-piece oil-finished walnut fullstock with an ''SWP'' mark (of Master Armorer Samuel W. Porter) within a rectangular cartouche having clipped-corners, on left side opposite the lock. Mfg'd 1886-91. Condition is near excellent retaining most of its original blue and case hardened finishes, the barrel having a dark blue-brown tone, the lockplate, barrel bands, nosecap, triggerguard, buttplate and ramrod showing bright glossy blue, and the case hardened breechblock (trapdoor) a blackish color. Stock is smooth and sound showing a few nicks but good color and perhaps a later coat of thin varnish; the buttstock inspector's mark is partially clear. Action is crisp; bore is brilliant with sharp rifling. Est.: $750-$1,250. (Antique)

Hartford, Acero Fino, Calidad, Garantizada, No.18''. Brass handle is beautifully decorated with raised lines and floral decorations. Blade is bright with very light scattered pinprick pitting, mainly on one side. Overall length is 18.25''. Leather Collins sheath is stamped with the Collins & Co. Legitimus logo and has impressed floral decorations. These fancy brass handles were fitted on No. 18 blades around 1877 to the 1890's, with the last catalogue showing them in 1904. Silver color-plated metal tip on bottom of sheath. Top of sheath has light writing of ''James H. Bean, Co(?) 193th Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers Inf. 1861-1865, Congress Winner''. Includes information from the National Archives showing James H. Bean in the 193rd New York Infantry. Est.: $750-$1,500.

Original Civil War U.S.N. Dahlgren Bayonet Cut into a Bowie Knife, with old painted museum number at ricasso area of brass handle, 11.5'' blade with Ames maker markings, ...more16.25'' overall, stamped U.S.N., and dated 1862. Brass handle is marked at the top with fancy ''D.R.'' mark and anchor stamp. Handle is missing the bayonet locking pin and spring. Top of the original ''S'' guard has been removed. Wood hand grip with grooves and hole cut into rear, probably for a wrist thong, appears to be original. Knife is in very good condition overall, with blade showing age graying and some sharpening, but no appreciable pitting. Brass handle has a nice aged patina, with numerous dings and dents from use. No sheath. Est.: $800-$1,200.

Beautiful aged ivory grip panels with inlaid silver plate have a couple of hairline cracks at two of the pins. Nickel silver crossguard is pointed on the tips. Blade shows minor age graying, light pitting, and sharpening scratches. Leather sheath is stitched and riveted, but appears newer than the knife. Est.: $700-$900.

Civil War Metropolitan Arms Co. Navy Single Action Percussion Revolver, #5085, .36 cal., 7.5'' octagonal barrel marked on top flat ''Metropolitan Arms Co. New-York'' flan...moreked by small outward-pointing chevrons, 6-shot round cylinder roll engraved with a naval battle scene, silver-plated brass gripstraps, one-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd 1864-66 in a quantity of just over 6,000 revolvers; thus quite rare today, and even more desirable with this Metropolitan barrel marking. Originally with blue and case hardened finishes. Condition is very good retaining no original blue but an overall smooth brown patina (perhaps applied after cleaning), faint mottled case hardening to frame and hammer, and traces of silver on gripstraps; cylinder scene is perhaps 10% visible due to dings on its periphery and probably was lightly rolled to begin with. Grips are smooth and sound with a ding at left toe and a tiny chip out of right toe, fit well and show a pleasing color. Markings are clear; most screw head slots are unblemished; gun remains tight and all parts fit well; all serial numbers match including cylinder, lever and barrel wedge. Action is crisp and sure; bore is shiny with erosion toward breech and well-defined rifling. A scarce American revolver likely reflecting genuine Civil War use but no abuse. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. Condition is near very good showing smooth aged ''bright'' metal on barrel and lock and dark patina on other metal parts. Stock is sound showing marks of smoothing over dings and scrapes, and a dark patina; tape primer mechanism works as designed. Action is tight and positive; bore appears clean with defined rifling. One-piece walnut rifle fullstock having the ''SWP'' initials of Master Armorer Samuel W. Porter over ''1883'' within a rectangular cartouche (partially obscured by wear) opposite the lock. Originally finished with blued barrel and lockplate, case hardened trapdoor and oil-finished stock. Mfg'd 1873-77. Condition is very good, having a smooth brownish patina to barrel and lockplate; triggerguard with approx. 90% original glossy blue; trapdoor with traces of case hardening colors. Stock with minor dings from military use and perhaps a later coat of thin varnish shows nice color. Overall the gun is sound, complete and original as issued. Action is very tight and crisp; bore is clean and shiny with distinct rifling. March 6, 1860'' (markings very faint) in three lines; case hardened steel furniture including single barrel band, left-side sling bar and ring, sling swivel under buttstock, and steel buttplate having a sliding door opening to the magazine tube for cartridge loading; oil-finished walnut forend and buttstock having a clear ''ESA'' cartouche of Master Armorer Erskine S. Allin on left side. Originally mfg'd 1863-65. Some 11,000 of these arms were altered and refinished at Springfield Armory c. 1867-1874: the alterations included sleeving the barrel for the smaller caliber three-groove rifled bore, and the addition of a Stabler Cutoff ahead of the trigger (allows for use as a single-shot). Condition is very good as likely refinished at the time of alteration (accounting for the weak receiver markings): barrel retains approx. 50% blue mixing with occasional discoloration; receiver shows nicely mottled case hardening colors, with softer colors on the sideplate, hammer, operating lever and buttplate. Stocks are sound with few marks, fit well and show nice coloration. Action functions smoothly; internals appear as-new; bore is bright with defined rifling. Est.: $1,750-$2,750. (Antique)

Sharps Pat./Sept. 12th, 1848'', on right side ''C. Sharps Pat./Oct. 5th, 1852'' to rear of hammer, and ''R.S. Lawrence Pat./April 12th, 1859'' at top below pellet primer. Steel furniture including left-side sling bar and ring (marked ''H.D.H.'' on rear tang), hammer, serpentine operating lever, catch, trigger, single spring-retained barrel band and crescent buttplate. Two-piece oil-finished walnut forestock and buttstock. Mfg'd 1859-1866. Condition is very good retaining traces of blue in protected areas of barrel, receiver with slivered case hardening, scattered light discoloration, and otherwise smooth gray-brown metal; edges are sharp, markings are clear, top tang screws show bright fire blue as does the lever pin. Stocks show dings and scrapes of military use, particularly on forend, nice coloration and perhaps a thin later coat of varnish. Condition is very good, the barrel having a smooth blue-brown tone, the lockplate, barrel bands, nosecap, triggerguard, buttplate and ramrod showing similar finish, and silvered case hardening on the breechblock (trapdoor). Markings are clear, edges are sharp, and screw head slots are unblemished. Stock is smooth and sound showing only very minor marks and excellent color; the inspector's mark at left wrist is clear. One-piece walnut rifle fullstock. Originally finished with blued barrel and lockplate, case hardened trapdoor and oil-finished stock. Mfg'd 1886-91. Condition is good to very good, having a thin rusty-brown patina to metal; trapdoor with bright case hardening colors on underside. Stock with moderate dings and scars from military use. Overall the gun is sound, complete and original as issued and will improve greatly with a careful cleaning. Action is very tight and crisp; bore is clean and shiny with distinct rifling. Bayonet retains approx. 35% bright blue marred by scattered rust pitting; scabbard matches with leather parts having age cracking to the finish mainly on backside. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)

Kittredge & Co./Cincinnati, O'' (the latter faint) in two lines, has dovetailed blade front sight, single-leaf rear sight, and sling swivel mount dovetailed midway beneath; steel receiver with distinctive two triggers (front trigger releases barrel) and scrolled triggerguard with long rear tang mounted with sling swivel; varnished walnut buttstock with brass crescent buttplate. Mfg'd 1859-88. Condition is very good to fine, the barrel retaining approx. 75% thinning blue (cleaned on top flat ahead of breech to reveal lettering); no original finish to cleaned receiver; smooth blue-brown patina to triggerguard; and aged brass patina to buttplate. Buttstock is smooth and sound showing minor nicking from age and use, with approx. 90% original varnish finish and nice color. Missing the under-barrel sling swivel (the dovetailed mount is intact). Action functions smoothly; bore is clean with deep rifling. The Ohio firm of Benjamin Kittredge & Co. is known to have furnished over 2,000 of these Frank Wesson military carbines to Missouri, Kansas, Indiana and Kentucky state units. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.
