Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Huggler of Switzerland, circa 1920. Value Points: wonderful detail of carving, wearing factory-original Swiss folklore costume.

All-cloth doll with egg-shaped head, flat-dimensional facial features, oil-painted facial features and hair, painted brown eyes with painted all-around eyeli...morener, single-stroke brows, outlined nose, closed mouth, brown painted curls, stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, oil-painted lower arms and legs, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent, typical paint rubs. Comments: Columbian Doll presented by Emma Adams at the Columbian Exposition of 1892 and became the first American doll to win the Gold Medal. Value Points: very artistic painting especially around the eyes, with original costume.

Condition: generally excellent, few very minor paint rubs. Marks: Columbian Doll Emma E. Adams Oswego Estates N.Y. (stamp on torso). Comments: the cottage industry dolls of Emma Adams were presented at the Chicago International Exposition ("Columbian Exposition") of 1892 wherein it was awarded the Gold Medal, the first American doll to win this international award. Value Points: rarer petite size of the pivotal American doll, with original finish, antique costume.

15" (38 cm.) Each has lithographed printed face and hair which is stitch-attached to muslin head form, muslin body with stitch jointing at shoulders and hips, mitten hand...mores with defined thumbs. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: from the Babyland Rag Series of Horsman, the dolls, advertised as having "life-like" faces, are Dutch boy and girl, named Jan and Greta, and were offered as a premium for selling subscriptions to Children's magazine in 1908. Value Points: beautifully-preserved dolls wearing their factory original costumes, with fine detail of facial design.

Comments: American, circa 1895, sometimes attributed to Julia Beecher, of Elmira, New York, whose stockinette dolls were made in the Congregational Church sewing circle of Elmira, New York, from 1893 to 1910, under the name Missionary Rag Babies. Value Points: rare-to-find doll in well-preserved original condition.

Condition: generally excellent. Comments: an early attached paper label reads "Jane - circa 1690-1700, English rag doll made of hand woven linen, hands and face oil painted, triangle nose". Value Points: well-preserved and most appealing doll with interesting provenance note, unique construction.

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (Rollinson red stamp on back torso). Comments: Gertrude Rollinson, inventor and patent holder of the distinctive cloth doll, produced by the Utley company of Holyoke, Massachusetts, circa 1920. Value Points: very artistic painting of the rare doll, few examples exist and virtually none in this fine state of preservation; the wigged variation is especially rare.

Value Points: especially fine example of the model with wonderful detail of hair, glass eyes, antique gentleman's clothes and accessories including gold-tipped walking stick.

Value Points: rare model with wonderful modeling of crown, necklace and bracelets, wearing original couturier gown by Martha Yeske who was a close fellow collector of Martha Thompson. The doll was acquired by its present owner nearly 60 years ago from Mrs. Yeske and has remained in her possession until now.

The doll was acquired by its present owner nearly 60 years ago from Mrs. Yeske and has remained in her possession until now.
