Colt 1921AC Thompson SMG .45 ACP SN: 6246

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 867)

"Omaha Police Department" marked Thompson sub machine gun chambered in .45 Automatic. As one of the very first 15,000 Thompsons produced, this was manufactured by Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Company in Hartford, Connecticut under contract with Auto-Ordnance circa 1921-1922. The 1921 models had mediocre sales initially, with most being later upgraded to the 1928 configuration, unlike this example as it remains in its original 1921 configuration. This Thompson is listed in Herigstad's "Colt Thompson Submachine Gun" as having been sent to the Omaha Chief of Police, John J. Pszanowski, on October 15, 1930, in a 10 gun shipment. Features a blued finish, 10.5" barrel with cooling fins, unmarked "Cutt's" style compensator with fixed front sight, adjustable Lyman ladder rear sight graduated to 600 yards, smooth trigger, manual safety & fire selector on the lower receiver/trigger housing, knurled cocking knob, original 20 round magazine, walnut vertical foregrip with ginger grooves, "OPD" engraved pistol grip and detachable shoulder stock with trapdoor metal buttplate & "OMAHA POLICE DEPT" engraved in the left side. The receiver and lower receiver/trigger housing have matching serial numbers and are both engraved in old English lettering "Omaha Police Dept." The right side of the receiver is also stamped with the JHB inspection mark. The original Colt internals consist of a blued actuator, bright finished bolt, bronze Blish lock, and two-piece buffer & buffer pilot with large diameter recoil spring. Includes three Seymour 30 round magazines and an Auto-Ordnance "L" 50 round drum magazine stamped "FOR 1928 MODEL". Machine gun retains approximately 90% of it's original blued finish showing muzzle wear, some high point edge wear, slide wear on the top of the receiver from the reciprocating cocking knob, and a very small amount of oxidation/pin prick pitting observed on the rear left side of the receiver. Action is smooth, the bore is bright with very good rifling & some minor erosion and the wood stocks are fine. Condition is Fine. ***NFA Firearm*** ***C&R Eligible***
