(A) GOOD SCOTTISH PERCUSSION DRESS PISTOL BY MEYER & MORTIMER.

Lot # 1001 (Sale Order: 1 of 558)      

Circa 1855. The blued bolted front action lock is well engraved with scrolls and toothed border. The hammer with dolphin engraving, engraved en suite. Steel barrel engraved throughout most of its length with scrolls and muzzle rings. Nickel silver fullstock is extensively engraved and decorated with scrolls in the Scottish manner. Ball trigger. German silver capped pricker in the form of a thistle. Nitre blued belt hook. CONDITION: Lock and hammer retain considerable original blue finish. Steel barrel polished but crisp. Belt hook with vibrant later blue finish. Action is crisp. Bore is fine. Ramrod possibly replaced but fits well. A good Scottish dress pistol by one of the well-known makers of same. (A) A SCARCE US NORTH BERLIN MODEL 1811 TRANSITIONAL MODEL WITH 1812 MODIFICATION AND IRON DOUBLE ST

Lot # 1002 (Sale Order: 2 of 558)      

With only 550 manufactured, the model 1811 transition is a US martial pistol collector's prize. The round barrel is stamped at breech with P over US and S.N.Y (State of New York). CONDITION: Barrel is smooth, aged patina with minor pitting. Double strap barrel band with minor pitting. Lock marked at tail S. North Berlin, Conn and eagle over U States. Pistol does not appear to reconverted, but hammer is an old replacement. Brass regulation furniture in good condition, with fine old unpolished patina. Walnut stock with split through butt has been repaired. Left side of stock stamped HHP for military inspector. Flayderman says barrel should be 8 - 5/8", barrel of present 1811 is 8 - 1/4" so barrel may have been slightly reduced; however, patination at end of muzzle matches the rest of the barrel. Ramrod is a replacement. One of the rarest US martial pistols. Bore is fair. Mainspring is strong, but pistol will not stay on full cock. A rare find for the US martial collector. Internal measurement of barrel measures 1 inch tapering down to approximately .45 caliber. Modest period engraving on frame. Action operates properly and has a very attractive appearance. (B) All steel construction Belgian produced copy of a Scottish double barreled flintlock pocket pistol. Engraved in an Irish motif with scrolls and harps. Dual flint ignition with turn barrel design. Standard Sea Service pistol of the Pattern 1796. The round barrel is marked with British proof marks as well as a crown over '9' and a crown over '10'. The center of the lockplate is stamped with a rampant lion holding a crown, and there is a crown over '2' stamped below the pan. The lock tail is stamped 1816. Standard brass Sea Service furniture with a large, iron belthook mounted on the left side. Tang stamped with a crown over '7'. Walnut stock with beavertail carved in relief around barrel tang. Complete with its original brass tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Steel components have been chemically cleaned and retain a freckled grey surface. Markings are mostly very good. Brass retains a mellowing mustard patina. Stock shows some scattered marks. There is a sliding half cock safety with a retaining pin to keep the frizzen shut. Left side of the scalloped boxlock action is inscribed "BASS" and the right side "LONDON", both surrounded by arms motifs. One piece walnut grip. CONDITION: Iron surfaces retain a spotted grey patina. Actions function well. Markings are very good. Grip shows some losses to finish and scattered marks. This example with rudimentary steel furniture, heavy barrel with flattened rib for sighting, oversized lock with bridled frizzen and swan neck cock. Barrel proof towards breech with "Brown" over "T" and "S". Steel sideplate with two side nails. Figured walnut full stock with steel band at muzzle and no provision for ramrod. Barrel has been shortened by an inch. Spurred steel buttcap. CONDITION: Well worn throughout. Stock with one significant split at the tail of the lock. Butt with fine worn patina throughout. Action defective, bore is fair. An attractive early military flintlock pistol that possibly saw use in America. Barrel is possibly of Spanish origins, and features some brass inlay work and relief pattern engraving which is worn. Brass mounted. The wood forward of the contemporary brass band is replaced. Brass ramrod is a replacement. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina showing wear and pitting. Several replaced parts. The wood has dings, cracks and handling marks. Forend replaced, cracks and a piece missing from the left side. Hammer is stuck and will not cock. Single line New York address. Cartouches on grips and inspectors marks on metal. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina overall. Markings are clear. Grips are good with dings and handling marks, showing wear. Actions functions well, although the mainspring is very weak. (B) 1861 Navy, made in 1862. Standard configuration. Sub-inspectors marks on metal parts. Falls in the martial range. Cartouche is no longer present on the left grip which appears to have had initials or a name carved into it at one time. Lot consist of: (A) Colt 1860 Army percussion revolver. Manufactured in 1863. Matching serial numbers. Original finish and wood grips. Naval engagement scene on cylinder is deeply faded and worn. CONDITION: Overall fair. Metal retains little to none of its original finish with a good patina covering most of the metal surfaces. Some pitting on areas of the barrel. Grips contain numerous dings, gouges and scratches, especially on the bottoms. Bore is frosted, with visible rifling present. Nipples show heavy signs of use. Hammer and cylinder show some wobble. Mechanically fine. (B) Colt 1860 Army percussion revolver. Manufactured in 1861. Gun appears to have been modified at some point, as there is a fourth screw in the frame. Matching serial numbers. Letter "N" stamped on front edge of cylinder. Letter "K" stamped on front edge of trigger guard. Left side of frame marked "COLTS PATENT" with "U.S." stamped under patent, letter "B" stamped to left of patent. Roll die Texas Rangers and Indian fight scene on cylinder. Oval locking slots on cylinder. Blue with case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer. Replacement one piece ivory grips. Brass squareback trigger guard and brass backstrap. Housed in an walnut partition fitted case with navy blue interior. Complete with powder flask, bullet mold, and percussion cap tin. CONDITION: Revolver is very good overall with approximately 15% original dull blue on bottom side of barrel and barrel lug, balance turning brown patina. Stress crack on muzzle end of barrel extending from front sight forward. Balance of revolver turning brown patina. Overall clean metal with little to no pitting. Brass trigger guard and backstrap a dark mustard patina. Action is tight and crisp. Ivory grips do not fit well. 60-70% cylinder scene visible. Case lid shows moderate wear with scattered dents and scratches. Interior shows moderate wear with fading. Nice mustard patina on powder flask. Bullet mold is fair with scattered pitting. Ivory grips likely the original with age cracks that enhance the patina of age. Action works well. Barrels index properly. Bores are good. An attractive Mariette. Underhammer mechanism. CONDITION: Fine Damascus pattern clearly visible and very attractive. Steel frame with extremely minor corrosion. Ivory grips likely the original with age cracks that enhance the patina of age. Action works well. Barrels index properly. Bores are good. An attractive Mariette. Starr Arms Co. New York manufactured double action army percussion revolver. Blued finish with 6 shot cylinder. Wood walnut grips with no visible inspectors marks. CONDITION: Revolver worn to a silvery patina. Gun functions fine. Grips look to have been cleaned long ago. Nice example of a Civil War revolver. Lot consist of: (A) Cooper 1860 percussion revolver. Gun is missing minor parts and is in-operable as it sits. Frame and cylinder match. CONDITION: Overall fair. Metal retains little of its original finish and appears to have been heavily polished. Grips are very good with minor handling marks. Bore is dirty with fair rifling. Mechanically fine with the exception of the missing parts. Nipples show signs of heavy use. (B) Colt 1849 Pocket revolver. Manufactured in 1853. All the serial numbers match, including the one on the cylinder. Stage coach scene is depicted on the cylinder. CONDITION: Overall good. Metal retains a fair amount of its original finish with light wear and patina. Brass frame has been polished. Grips are very good with minor dings and scratches. Bore is dirty with fair rifling. Mechanically fine. Hammer and cylinder show minor wobble. Nipples show signs of use.
