Description Update 03/18/2020: Spot of added finish on right side of wrist.

serial #98776, 22 short, 28" No. 2 weight octagon barrel with a very good bore. This rifle is equipped with a factory single set trigger, special sights and remains in a very high state of original condition. The barrel retains about 95% original blue finish overall with loss on the high edges, some light thinning and some very light surface abrasions. The action shows 97% bright original blue finish with one light ding in the ring of the action and most other loss coming on the high edges. The breechblock shows vivid original case color with the colors on the hammer and lever being slightly softened. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent with 97% original finish remaining and with nice raised grain coming through. There is one notable bruise in the right side of the butt near the toe of the buttplate. The rifle is sighted with a globe target front with removable insert, standard open sporting rear and a Lyman folding tang mounted peepsight. This is just a lovely little Low Wall rifle. serial #645112B, 22 S,L,LR, 20" round barrel with a bright very fine bore showing a few spots of very minor oxidation and strong rifling throughout. This is a wonderful example of these desirable Expert model rifles rarely seen in such nice condition. The metal surfaces retain about 95-96% original blue with most of the loss due to some light operational wear, sparsely scattered spots of very fine flaking along the barrel, and magazine tube toning to a mild gray-brown patina, along with a couple minor handling marks that go largely unnoticed. The barrel is marked "-MOD. 06-", all markings are crisp and clear and the screw heads remain clean. The smooth gumwood pistolgrip buttstock and contoured forend remain in excellent condition retaining 98% original finish showing just a few very light handling marks. The original hard rubber buttplate with floral-engraved screw heads remains intact in near excellent condition showing some very light wear around the edges. The original sporting sights are intact and the action seems to function well mechanically. An excellent 1906 Expert rifle that would be a fine addition to any advanced Winchester collection. serial #12250, 44-40, 6" ribbed round barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing a few sparsely scattered light freckles and strong rifling throughout. This is a very handsome revolver retaining about 92% original bright blue showing some scattered thinning along the barrel and gripstraps that is toning to a pleasant mild gray-brown patina, some areas of light freckling and minor operational wear. The barrel hinge screw and sideplate screw show some light slot wear but this is rather unobtrusive. The hammer and trigger retain 90% stunning case-hardened colors with just some minor silvering along the trigger. The barrel address with patent dates and left-side cartridge designation remain crisp and clear. The black checkered hard rubber grips remain in excellent condition with a few areas showing some minor discoloration. The right panel is scratch-numbered to the gun and the left still retains its patent date along the lower edge. All of the serialized parts are matching, barrel-to-frame fit is solid and the action seems to function well mechanically with excellent timing and lock-up. serial #457542, 410 bore, 28'' best fluid steel barrels, both choked full with bright excellent bores. This is a lovely and rare high-grade smallbore Ithaca double ejectorgun, one of only 14 such guns built by the Ithaca Gun Company in this grade. The barrels retain about 95% original blue, the loss is due primarily to light and even fading showing pewter at the muzzles and above the forend at the carry point. The barrel is factory equipped with dual ivory target beads and shows light bands of engraving at the breeches. The New Ithaca Double frame shows open Grade 4 Ithaca-style scroll engraving with game birds left and right and retains about 98% original color case-hardening, muted slightly at the carry point of the frame. The lightly engraved triggerguard retains perhaps 60% original blue and the factory single selective trigger retains strong original gold plate showing only light wear. The checkered deluxe English walnut pistolgrip buttstock and splinter style forend rate very fine to perhaps near excellent, the forend closer to fine. The butt exhibits lovely grain figure and has small handling marks or light dings sparsely scattered with crisp fleur-de-lis ribbon checkering and an un-engraved shield-shaped monogram plate along the toeline. The forend shows a bit more wear with a small sliver missing along its left upper edge, its ebony tip insert is intact, with the remnants of colors on the latch and iron. The length of pull to the original grooved hard rubber buttplate is 14'' with drops of 1 11/16'' and 2 7/8''. The gun features factory single selective trigger, ejectors and cocking indicators. The gun functions well mechanically, is tight on-face with the top lever still right of center. An absolutely lovely smallbore Ithaca belonging to this gentleman of means whose stewardship of the forest and wood lands lives on in his 6000 acre ''Great Mountain Forest'', fostered by he and fellow Yale student Starling Childs in 1913, Walcott trail named in his honor. serial #453707, 12 ga., 32'' ventilated rib barrels choked a light full in both with bright excellent mirror-like bores. This is another beautiful New Ithaca Double in a high state of condition which appears to have seen very little or perhaps no use. The barrels retain about 98-99% original blue with no appreciable loss, showing perhaps a very light scattered handling mark here or there. The factory ventilated rib features dual ivory beads and there are light bands of engraving at the breeches. The Grade 5 frame shows typical loose open flowing floral and foliate Ithaca scroll with game birds left and right and the American Eagle on belly of frame with Ithaca's Made in USA legend and company address. The triggerguard retains all of its original blue and is neatly engraved as well with the factory selective trigger remaining bright with nice checkering on its face. The checkered English walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock and full beavertail style forend rate excellent with a very light handling mark here or there and crisp fleur-de-lis ribbon checkering patterns; there is a very tiny drying crack at the rear edge of the forend. The length of pull from the trigger to the factory Hawkins recoil pad is 14 3/4'', with drops of 1 7/16'' and 2'', the pad having collapsed from the weight of the shotgun and the years. The arm is equipped with single selective trigger, ejectors and cocking indicators and locks up tightly and is on-face with the top lever still right of center. The light burnishing on the breeches of the barrels remains evident and there are scant, very light drag marks on the standing breech from very light ejector rub from the years. The gun seems to function well mechanically and is a beautiful investment-grade example of a very seldom-encountered ventilated rib NID in trap configuration. (3E9558-20) {C&R} [Senator Frederic C. serial #1027, 22 LR, 10" barrel with an excellent bore. This lovely pistol remains in wonderful condition showing minimal use since 1928 when it left Hartford. The metal surfaces retain about 99% original blue showing limited edge wear in addition to scattered light handling marks. The checkered walnut factory service grips with silver "Rampant Colt" medallions rate about excellent showing a few small dings on the heel of each panel. The grips, barrel and breech block are all serial numbered to the gun and it features an elevation adjustable Patridge front sight and windage adjustable black blade rear sight. The left corner of the front sight has a small ding but the action remains crisp, and lock up is tight. The barrel has the correct markings and the side of the breech block reads "CAMP PERRY MODEL". It includes a "READY for YOU January 1st!" flyer announcing the new Camp Perry Model, "Proper Ammunition" instruction paper and "Special Instructions" pamphlet. The paperwork rates about excellent, the flyer showing several spots of light yellowing. These pistols were made for heavy use and production quantities were low. serial #606753, 38 Special, 6" heavy barrel with an excellent bore. This lovely 1937-manufactured revolver is the later third issue, correctly marked, "Heavy Barrel" variation. The metal surfaces retain about 99% original blue showing faint high edge wear, light handling marks and tiny impact marks on the sideplate just behind the sideplate screw. The checkered trigger retains most of the blue with light edge wear from use and the hammer rates excellent with very light staining from oxidation on the bright sides. The grips are a beautiful set of Roper's featuring diamond checkering, Roper finger ribbons on each panel, checkered thumb rest showing light handling marks. The grips feature the "Gagne's" jig holes and both panels have the number "575" scribed on the backs. The gun features a factory elevation adjustable Patridge front sight, windage adjustable rear sight and mechanical function is excellent. Extremely Fine and Equally Rare Wesson Firearms Company Double Hammergun

serial #206, 12 ga., 30" damascus barrels with bright excellent bores. These shotguns are of very high quality and were by far the most expensive American double shotguns that were being produced at the time. This example shows tasteful scroll and border engraving executed by the Gustave Young shop. In addition to the frame the gun features Young's scroll on the hammers, barrel rib extension, triggerguard, buttplate and forend metal. The serial number is engraved on the lower tang and stamped on the underside of the barrels on the forend lug. Underside of barrels also show the intertwined monograms of D.B. Wesson and another that appears to be initials "SJW", however the barrel rib is unmarked. The condition of this particular example is very fine with very good damascus pattern showing the entire length of the barrels. The frame shows 90% original color case-hardened finish which is brilliant in protected areas and slightly more subdued in the more exposed areas. The triggerguard shows about 70% original blue finish with the balance showing a pleasing smooth brown patina. The checkered walnut buttstock and forend are of beautifully figured American black walnut and rate excellent with perhaps 95% original finish remaining and with strong checkering. The right side of the forend at the breech is missing a thin sliver at the top, it is minor and easily missed. The fit is extremely tight, the head of the barrel wedge fits into a recess in the wedge escutcheon perfectly just as the rib extension fits into the top of the frame. Wesson made only 219 of these guns, this being #206 puts it right near the end of the production. The gun comes with an old leather trunk style case which is unmarked and in about good condition. This is a very fine example of these lovely American double guns which should appeal as much to collectors of fine doubles as it should to the Smith & Wesson collector. The metal surfaces of revolver retain over 90% bright original blue overall with loss due to flaking, mostly on the loading lever, which retains about 50% original blue. All areas of loss bear a pleasing smooth brown patina. The gripstraps still show lots of original blue and the revolver shows very little use. The hammer shows a good deal of faded original color case-hardened finish which has softened over time and has a pleasing appearance. The two-piece walnut grips rate excellent with about 90% original finish remaining and with just the normal light handling marks. The barrel inscription is as crisp as can be. serial #120023, 30 WCF, 22" tapered round barrel with half magazine and a bright excellent bore. This is a very handsome rifle which has many special order features. They include a lightweight, shorter than standard barrel, shorter than standard magazine, checkered stocks with pistolgrip, fancy wood, takedown and a checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate. The forend is the proper 8 3/8" length used on Winchester's short rifles. The lower left tang shows assembly codes "12484 XXX O" with the top tang inlet of stock being marked "12484 T 94". The condition of the rifle is also quite nice with the barrel and magazine retaining about 90 - 95% original blue with loss due generally to even light thinning. The action shows about 93% original blue with loss mostly on high edges and with some light striations appearing across the action. The hammer and lever show strong original color case-hardened finish and the loading gate retains 95% fire blue which has faded slightly. The checkered pistolgrip buttstock and forend are of beautifully figured American black walnut and rate excellent with 80% original oil finish remaining, crisp checkering and hardly any handling marks. The finish loss looks to be from drying and a properly hand applied coat of oil would bring it right back. The wood-to-metal fit is excellent and the stocks have a rich dark appearance. The checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate rates excellent with no damage. The rifle is sighted with a Beach style combination front mounted in raised ramp, an express style rear sight and a Lyman folding tang mounted peepsight. All screwheads remain clean and undamaged. The metal surfaces of this revolver show some light period embellishments with foliate scrollwork and punch-dot shading on either side of the frame and barrel along with some tasteful geometric borders. The engraving is somewhat softened beneath the nickel plating, the finish perhaps reapplied during the period of use retaining about 90%, with flaking and minor pinprick pitting along the cylinder, breech and muzzle. The barrel address remains crisp and clear and the hammer shows a dark tarnished silver finish. The revolver wears a set of attractive period mother-of-pearl grips that have been scratch-numbered to the gun and are engraved with a wide checkered pattern along the right grip and a deer standing amidst a woodland scene on the left. The grips rate very good plus showing a small repair at the base of the right panel and some other light handling marks. Barrel-to-frame fit shows a little bit of play and the action is functional with loose lock-up and good timing. The included original gutta percha case rates very good showing a number of light chips around the edges of the lid and base, a series of neatly repaired long thin cracks along the lid and the molded motifs remain intact and attractive. The interior is lined with embossed maroon baize that shows a few spots of light staining and scuffs. The case also contains a selection of vintage cartridges in very good condition. The frame retains about 92% original silver finish that is thinning to pleasant ocher brass along the high edges and has taken on an attractive dark tarnish overall. The smooth rosewood grips remain in very good plus condition retaining a generous amount of original varnish with some light dings and handling marks. The right panel is stamp-numbered to the gun and the barrel and cylinder are matching the frame by assembly number. Barrel-to-frame fit is solid and the action seems to function well mechanically with excellent timing and lock-up. The included original gutta percha case rates very good plus showing a few light dings around the edges, a neat small repair to the bottom right corner of the base, the top right molded eagle motif has been painted with an ocher paint and one of the hinges is a little loose. Exceptional Bernhard Merkel Double Rifle Two Barrel Set

serial #6084, 9.3x74R (9.3x74.5R) and 8x57JR, 24 1/2'' Krupp Stahl barrels and 24 1/2 Krupp Laufstahl barrels, all showing bright excellent bores. The barrels both retain about 98% original maker rust blue, the original set of barrels, marked by Bernhard Merkel, and a latter set of barrels built by Emil Adam, Berlin, and so-marked. Each set show nice light borderline engraving at the breech end on the Greener crossbolt extension, one proved in 1929, the latter set in 1936. The scalloped sideclipped boxlock frame shows handsome tight flowing scroll in near full coverage retaining perhaps 95% original color case-hardening, most of which is quite vivid, fading in the rounded carry area of the frame. The breech bolsters atop each side flat have very pleasing geometric decoration, also surrounding the hinge pin screws and continuing atop the top lever. The triggerguard is horn and rates excellent showing a minor crack through its front leading edge just above its retaining screw and the top lever has silver inlaid chiseled initials ''RE'', or perhaps their reciprocal. The checkered round knob pistolgrip buttstock rates very good to fine with the light handling marks and dings one would expect from the years, the splinter forend is similar showing perhaps a bit more wear. The butt has a nice rounded left side shadowline cheekpiece, faceted grasping area, pinched comb and tiny diamond-shaped horn inlays to the rear of each stock cheek; the forend has a nice horn tip inlay as well. The wood may have been refinished many years ago as the metal is proud over all around the periphery of the frame to buttstock, if so it was masterfully done and all of the edges remain sharp, as-does the checkering. The rifle was fitted with a Jostam recoil pad during the period of use giving a 14 1/4'' length of pull to the front trigger. The arm features extractors, dual single set triggers, non-automatic safety and pin-style cocking indicators. Lockup is dual under bites with Greener crossbolt and both sets of barrels lock up tightly and are on-face. Both sets of barrels feature a nicely matted rib which raises at the front to support simple bead sights on each, with single standing u-notch rears. Additionally each set of barrels features maker-installed dual claw bases, three of each on both sets of barrels to accommodate the two telescopic sights included with the arm. One set of barrels is marked in riband ''Bernhard Merkel Suhl'', the second set of barrels marked ''Emil Adam Berlin''. The two included scopes are one Carl Zeiss Zielacht telescopic sight with heavy three post German reticle and excellent optics and a W&H Seibert Jaguar 4X telescopic sight with heavy three post reticle and very good plus to near excellent optics as well. serial #6084, 9.3x74R (9.3x74.5R) and 8x57JR, 24 1/2'' Krupp Stahl barrels and 24 1/2 Krupp Laufstahl barrels, all showing bright excellent bores. The barrels both retain...more about 98% original maker rust blue, the original set of barrels, marked by Bernhard Merkel, and a latter set of barrels built by Emil Adam, Berlin, and so-marked. Each set show nice light borderline engraving at the breech end on the Greener crossbolt extension, one proved in 1929, the latter set in 1936. The scalloped sideclipped boxlock frame shows handsome tight flowing scroll in near full coverage retaining perhaps 95% original color case-hardening, most of which is quite vivid, fading in the rounded carry area of the frame. The breech bolsters atop each side flat have very pleasing geometric decoration, also surrounding the hinge pin screws and continuing atop the top lever. The triggerguard is horn and rates excellent showing a minor crack through its front leading edge just above its retaining screw and the top lever has silver inlaid chiseled initials ''RE'', or perhaps their reciprocal. The checkered round knob pistolgrip buttstock rates very good to fine with the light handling marks and dings one would expect from the years, the splinter forend is similar showing perhaps a bit more wear. The butt has a nice rounded left side shadowline cheekpiece, faceted grasping area, pinched comb and tiny diamond-shaped horn inlays to the rear of each stock cheek; the forend has a nice horn tip inlay as well. The wood may have been refinished many years ago as the metal is proud over all around the periphery of the frame to buttstock, if so it was masterfully done and all of the edges remain sharp, as-does the checkering. The rifle was fitted with a Jostam recoil pad during the period of use giving a 14 1/4'' length of pull to the front trigger. The arm features extractors, dual single set triggers, non-automatic safety and pin-style cocking indicators. Lockup is dual under bites with Greener crossbolt and both sets of barrels lock up tightly and are on-face. Both sets of barrels feature a nicely matted rib which raises at the front to support simple bead sights on each, with single standing u-notch rears. Additionally each set of barrels features maker-installed dual claw bases, three of each on both sets of barrels to accommodate the two telescopic sights included with the arm. One set of barrels is marked in riband ''Bernhard Merkel Suhl'', the second set of barrels marked ''Emil Adam Berlin''. The two included scopes are one Carl Zeiss Zielacht telescopic sight with heavy three post German reticle and excellent optics and a W&H Seibert Jaguar 4X telescopic sight with heavy three post reticle and very good plus to near excellent optics as well. The barreled action retains about 95-97% G&H blue, the loss due primarily to even fading, more prominent toward the front half of the barrel. The bolt body retains lovely uniform cross-hatch burnishing, as does the extractor, remaining bright on the receiver ways and magazine follower. The bolt knob shows some light toning to pewter on its sharp edges. The bottom metal shows more wear and is primarily a plum brown overall with toning to pewter gray on the bow, with some scattered light oxidation and a few light handling marks. The G&H-style English walnut stock rates excellent with a generous rounded left side shadowline cheekpiece and the signature bone forend tip and blued steel gripcap with unmistakable G&H architecture throughout. The stock shows a minor handling mark here or there but they are unobtrusive and it features wraparound checkering patterns at both grip and forearm with mullered borders, flawlessly executed with a couple dings within, the silver oval monogram plate along the toeline is neatly engraved a ''ESJ''. Rifle features a G&H style sling swivels (included) and has been fitted with a nice engraved checkered steel trapdoor buttplate for a 13 3/4'' length of pull. The rifle features a Lyman gold bead front sight, Lyman No. 6 dual leaf folding rear sight and a bolt shroud-mounted aperture sight professionally fitted. The left side of the action has a Griffin & Howe quick detach single lever telescopic base, used by G&H for only two years, 1927 and 1928, when it was supplanted by the double lever mount. There is a Zeiss Dialyt 2 3/4X telescopic sight mounted with post and crosshair reticle and excellent optics. The scope itself rates very fine showing just some light wear and even fading with a bit of flaking around the brass lens keepers. The barrel is not Griffin & Howe marked nor are there any other internal markings on the stock, but a detailed study of the arm leaves no doubt as to its maker and Mr. Mike Petrov himself has mentioned more than once that most G&H rifles were marked, but not all, especially in that ''depression-era'' term when G&H were doing ''budget'' customizations to keep the rack full. The metal surfaces on this neatly-made custom Super Grade Carbine retain about 98-99% excellent quality custom blue with the bolt body polished bright. All of the factory markings including the proof marks remain intact and the rear receiver ring has been very neatly drilled and tapped for scope bases. There are four professionally filled holes from older scope bases as well, two on the receiver and two on the barrel, which miss detection at first glance, very neatly camouflaged under the custom blue. The checkered walnut pistolgrip stock features a left side cheekpiece and stunning grain in the area of the butt. It rates excellent with no mentionable handling marks or dings, the cloverleaf tang was very neatly adapted to this stock, showing black-toned bedding compound at the rear of the tang. serial #11993, 243 Win, 22'' sporter contoured barrel with a bright excellent bore. This lovely rifle is masterfully executed and built on a 1948 FN commercial large ring Mauser action. The barrel retains about 97% excellent quality original blue with light muzzle wear and a few minute handling marks. The balance of the metal is French gray finished with the receiver and bottom metal engraved in an intertwining conifer needle and pinecone motif in full coverage with the detachable floorplate showing a leaping 10-point buck against a wooded backdrop. The bolt body and extractor have been very nicely engine turned showing virtually no wear. The bolt handle is identically engraved with the pear-shaped knob showing raised-dot grasping surfaces and its bottom neatly drilled, lightweight-style. The rifle is stocked Monte Carlo style in a nice grade of English walnut and features exceptionally executed wraparound skip-line checkering with thin ribbon and carved scroll flourish decoration. The stock itself rates excellent with a few very light dings and a flared left side cheekpiece, generous recurving ebony forend tip and a steel skeleton style buttplate, engraved identically as the balance of the arm, with neatly checkered center panels giving a 13 3/8'' length of pull. The pistolgrip is teardrop-shaped and has an engraved French gray cap with a standing pronghorn antelope. The bolt stop thumbpiece has been removed and an elongated tail added at its rear giving a very trim profile while maintaining easy release of the bolt. There are no sights but the rifle is mounted with a pair of steel Buehler bases and 1'' scope rings, engraved identically as the balance of the arm, and an adjustable commercial trigger and low scope safety are fitted. The rings mount a Kollmorgen Bear Cub 6X telescopic sight with crosshair reticle and excellent optics, the scope itself rating excellent. A fabulously-executed and very attractive sporting rifle in a versatile, light recoiling caliber, clearly set up for bean field deer or antelope. This very fine rifle appears very much as though it is the work of either Griffin & Howe or perhaps Seymour Griffin himself, given the architecture of the stock, the contour of the ejection port, comb flutes and the stock embellishments. The metal surfaces of the barreled action retain perhaps 95-97% very good quality blue, the loss due to even fading and some toning to plum. The front portion of the bolt body remains bright with nice cross-hatched burnishing as-is seen on both G&H and Sedgley rifles of the period and the bolt knob has been neatly checkered on its top face, the underside flat and just slightly and checkered as well. The action races have been neatly honed bright and the edge of the receiver nicely engine-turned. The bottom metal retains perhaps 85% quality blue with flakes of light oxidation on the front extension and the bow of the guard. The checkered American walnut pistolgrip stock remains in the near excellent condition with just a few scattered light handling marks from the years. It features a G&H-style bone forend tip, blued steel pistolgrip cap and checkered steel buttplate with wraparound checkering patterns at both grip and forend. The rifle is sighted with a nice banded sporting ramp front with knurled hood, Lyman 48 rear and Carl Zeiss Zielklein telescopic sight mounted by a G&H single lever quick detachable scope base; both front ring of receiver and barrel are drilled and tapped for steel target blocks. The single lever base was very short-lived, replaced by the double lever in 1929; the scope has a post and crosshair reticle and very fine optics and rates excellent with only very light wear. The rifle is fitted with G&H-style quick detach sling swivels and a single original blued magazine is included. Looking very much like the depression-era ''remodeled'' rifles, there is a very neatly filled hole along the toeline just ahead of the sling swivel stud (as seen in Mr. Petrov's books on the subject) and a penciled number in the barrel channel which unfortunately is no longer legible. Serial numbers listed on both sides of this were NRA models, this serial number however was not located in any of S.R.S. records. A fine man-sized 22 rifle which no doubt shoots as good as it looks, clearly built by a maker who knew their business. The barrel is numbered to the action ''27'' on its underside and retains about 98% original blue that is evenly fading to a plum tone with a bit of wear at the muzzle and the sharp edges of the octagon portion. The frame remains quite nice retaining about 98% original color case-hardening which is vivid in spots and muting slightly in others, with a bit of a coating of hardened oil or perhaps smoke. The hammer and block pins retain excellent pale straw color with their retainer a purple-blue tone. Both the hammer and breech block show excellent original blue as does the checkered trigger, the triggerplate drifting somewhat to a pewter patina, the color remaining vivid on the sides of the guard. The checkered capped pistolgrip English walnut buttstock and extra-length forend with ebony tip insert rate very fine to near excellent with nearly all their original varnish and only light handling marks from the years. The hard rubber gripcap and Remington arms logo buttplate rate very fine as well. The rifle is sighted with its original Beach combination front sight which retains some nice pale blue and frame mounted Lyman tang sight. The action is crisp and mechanically functional.
