(N) SCARCE M1 MODEL THOMPSON MACHINE GUN FROM WORLD WAR II ERA (CURIO AND RELIC).

Lot # 1014 (Sale Order: 14 of 385)

Fine refinished Auto Ordinance Bridgeport M1 Thompson with small “S” proof on bottom of receiver indicating Savage manufacture. Includes two 20 round (Colt 1920 patent, and Bridgeport), and two 30 round (U.S. Cartridge Co, and Seymore) magazines. Gun has typical right and left receiver markings with fixed peep sight, smooth unfinned barrel, and non-detachable buttstock. There were far fewer M1 model Thompson machine guns produced as opposed to M1A1 because the transition to the fixed firing pin bolt happened so rapidly. The less costly to produce M1A1 was approved and put into production as soon as was practicable. Although the traditional firing pin within the bolt of the M1 worked just fine, the fixed firing pin on the face of the M1A1 bolt proved less costly and time consuming to produce. Military crossed cannon proof and “GEC” inspector proofs still visible on left side of receiver. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent smooth blue refinish with some “softness” to the lettering incidental to the polishing preparation work. There is some heat discoloration and light pitting visible under the finish at the front of the receiver near the forend iron and barrel socket. Wood is in fine condition with some light handling marks. Stock has been lightly sanded and refinished and overall this gun presents just outstanding. Mechanics are crisp. Bore near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face near excellent. The Thompson is universally held in high regard by both veterans, collectors, and recreational shooting enthusiasts. For Thompson collectors, the M1 Thompson is often the last model they need to complete their collections. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. Anti-aircraft rear sight also included as seen in photos. The Lewis machine gun was the most preferred by either side during World War I. The Germans gladly employed them whenever they could capture enough ammunition to make the use of them worthwhile. This gun was part of a shipment imported from Ireland in 1959 by Interarm Co. and like most of the others encountered of this model has been renumbered from its original 5-digit number to an “A” prefix number which is the registration number with BATF. The original five digit number matches on the shroud, receiver, and receiver action cover assemblies. Bolt does not match. Includes clamp-on airplane front sight and clamp-on bipod. Buttstock assembly is from a Savage manufactured Lewis gun with patent dates on the buttplate. Typical markings on receiver action cover “Manufactured by” / “The Birmingham Small Arms Co LTD” / “ENGLAND” / “for” / “Armes Automatiques Lewis” / “BELGIUM” just forward of rear sight marked “Lewis Auto Gun” / “Mod.1914-Pat.” This gun also displays British proof marks on several parts with broad arrow. The cataloger wishes to express gratitude to Kenneth Smith Christmas for his research into the history of the shipment of these “A” prefix Lewis guns into the United States. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is extremely fine original finish with some thinning to gray patina, more pronounced at the high edges with some areas of brown patina. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright with good clean lands and grooves. Spare barrels exteriors have scattered brown patina with good bores. Bolt face is fine. Buttstock wood is extremely fine with some little dings, bruises, and light handling marks. Grip panels are very good with some dings, bruises and handling marks. Pan magazines are all 47 round British marked and about fine, with one having more finish loss and brown patina than the others. Canvas pouches all have 1918 vintage manufacturer’s ink marks inside one side flap. Metal magazine carrying box has good serviceable leather carrying handle, functional cover latch and vintage grime over original paint. One of the best Lewis gun ensembles to become available to the collectors market in over a decade! One needs only some .303 ammunition to have a great time at the range with this gun! Lot # 1021 (Sale Order: 21 of 385)

Arsenal refinished Savage manufactured Thompson Model 1928 A1 with Rock Island Armory markings in addition to flaming bomb ordnance mark on left side of receiver. Also marked "P O L" on left side of receiver over chamber. Typical Auto Ordnance Bridgeport address on right side of receiver. Vertical forend grip is a replacement. Pistol grip and buttstock appear original with British style swing swivel fitted on left side of buttstock with screw holes visible also on left side. Right side of buttstock has brass oval affixed with brass screws with stamped number "697". It appears this is a property number and this brass oval was at one time on the opposite side. Buttplate has same yellow textile marker "C-9" and "12154". Lower assembly manufactured by Savage is "S-371142" does not match upper receiver serial number. Cutts compensator with Cutts address at top front only. 1928 internal parts. Buttstock has barely discernible anchor proof mark. One 30 round magazine is included. (N) SCARCE EARLY 1938 BERLIN SUHLER-WAFFEN MG-34 MACHINE GUN WITH LAFETTE TRIPOD AND ACCESSORIES (PR

Lot # 1022 (Sale Order: 22 of 385)

Berlin Suhler Waffenfabrik (BSW) WaA4 Manufactured MG-34 machine gun with matching shroud, receiver and handgrip assembly with otherwise non-matching parts. Very nice bakelite buttstock serial number 3045b presents well on this gun. Very nice Nazi “dfb” (Gustloff) barrel in gun with one additional Isreali spare barrel in carrier. Bolt in gun is “dot” with hand scratched “bsw” visible, as is also scratched onto the feed tray. Likely the consignor marked these parts and he reports the gun runs well. One assault “drum” which snaps onto the feed tray, two steel ammo cans and five 50 round belt segments are included with this gun as well as a repainted original Nazi marked Lafette-34 tripod is dated 1939 on elevation gear and 1940 on top of mounting table. No bipod present. Noteworthy is that this guns handgrip assembly is early enough to have the screw at the bottom, and small spring hole at the front for the adjustable rate of fire parts. Some early MG-34 guns were equipped with these parts until they were deemed too problematic to maintain (not to mention time-consuming to produce and tune). Guns already so equipped had these parts removed and the later produced grip frame assemblies often encountered today do not have the provision for these parts. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine, with about 30% original finish thinning to a pleasing gray patina on shroud and receiver with over 90% dull finish on the flash hider. Top cover is very good, does not have Nazi proofs and bears two serial numbers. Otherwise with some thinning of original finish on the receiver turning to gray patina at the high edges. Buffer cup is a gray patina #6247a. Mechanics are crisp with a very nice, strong, smooth bolt movement when dry fired. Nazi bore is fine with bright shiny lands and getting dark in the grooves. Israeli barrel is chrome lined and near excellent. Tripod has attractive original green aluminum optic mounting block with near excellent repaint coverage. Relatively few pre-World War II MG34 guns made it back to the United States. Most were heavily used and/or otherwise lost during the Russian campaign. As an early specimen, this gun will stand out to the discerning German machine gun enthusiast. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. Lot # 1023 (Sale Order: 23 of 385)

This Spandau manufactured 1918 dated Maxim 08/15 machine gun was a client amnesty registered DEWAT which has been reactivated by U.S. Armament Corp, Ephrata, PA and is so marked on the bottom of the receiver bottom plate just forward of the buttstock hardware. The reactivation was a straightforward repair of the lower feed arm of the feed block. Otherwise this is about as a nice and original World War I Maxim as one could hope to find. Visible numbers are matching including top cover, feed block, barrel, receiver, crosshead, charging handle, buttstock hardware, and buttstock. Lock, and fusee cover are non-matching. Original bipod present. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine original finish with about 20% original olive green paint water jacket. Water jacket has a couple light unobtrusive dings. Thumbpieces on water fill cap not present as is typical. One prong of steam exhaust fitting broken off. Buttstock slightly loose in socket. Mechanics are fine. Fusee cover has numerous dents and dings as one would expect from a Veteran machine gun. Wood is very fine with some small chips and dings. Bore is dark with strong rifling. The 08/15 Maxim was the German “light” machine gun of World War I and remained in service throughout the Weimar era of the 1920’s and 1930’s and remained in rear echelon service through the end of World War II. No World War I machine gun collection is complete without an example of a German Maxim, and these guns are great fun to shoot at the range as well. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. (N) FINE 1943 DATED WORLD WAR II GERMAN MG-34 MACHINE GUN (PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE).

Lot # 1024 (Sale Order: 24 of 385)

Very attractive and mostly matching German World War II MG34. Although NFA registry indicates “GROSSFUSS” as the manufacturer, this guns receiver, shroud, and handgrip assembly cup are all matching and were manufactured by Waffenwerke Brunn (dot) in 1943. WaA proofs confirm this, and correction to registry may be requested incidental to paper Form 3 transfer should the buyer desire this. Top cover also matches serial number and was indeed manufactured by Grossfuss (bpr). Buttstock cup and bakelite buttstock are serial 463i. Buffer cup is serial 6973f. Bipod is unnumbered, dfb 1943. Bolt is unnumbered. Barrel non-matching. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good, about 40% mostly thinning to a pleasing even gray patina with more finish remaining forward of the AA sight post, turning a brown patina in places. Actually presents a very nice “combat used” appearance. Firing residue at muzzle and within bore indicate that this has been a good running gun, and this cataloger knew the consignor and witnessed this gun firing at the range. Generally, if the shrouds match the receivers, and the wear patterns indicate it, the MG-34s run well. Mechanics are fine. Bore is dark with firing residue. This is a select-fire machine gun. A great example of the iconic class machined steel German belt fed machine gun from WW 2 ready to take to the range. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL.
