  • An exciting opportunity for an enthusiast who wants to aim for higher-profile events. Surely Classic Le Mans, Tour Auto and Goodwood all beckon as future possibilities

Early production, Series 1 E-types are both extremely rare and very collectable so Silverstone Auctions are very privileged to be offering, not one, but two cars from these early days in our forthcoming Silverstone Classic Online Sale.

This car ~ Chassis no. 850051 ~ was the 51st E-Type to be produced at Browns Lane (the Heritage Certificate confirms the date of manufacture as 22nd June 1961) and is part of the, historically significant, initial batch of 64 UK dealer demonstrators. It was despatched to the West Country where South Devon Garages Ltd of Torquay eagerly took delivery of their Opalescent Silver Grey demonstrator with red leather upholstery and a black soft top and they quickly sold it to its first recorded keeper, Mr E.G.Dawes of Torquay. At the time, Jaguar dealers were under strict instructions not to sell their E-type demonstrators but as a close friend of Tommy Sopwith and John Coombs, fellow powerboat racers and Jaguar racers a few strings were pulled! He appears to have upgraded the car early on for sprints/hill climbs and club racing.

The history file is comprehensive and it would be worthwhile for the car's new owner to investigate further #850051's long and intriguing history. However, with limited research, the file suggests that in 2001 the car was owned by noted Ferrari Formula One driver, Eddie Irvine, and he subsequently sent it to J.D.Classics for an upgrade to their 'lightweight replica' specification. The invoice for this totalled a substantial £25,056 and is fully detailed but, suffice it to say, the Jaguar was now in seriously fast road specification as a factory 'Lightweight Evocation' with lots of external body upgrades, including a vented hardtop, boot lid, perspex headlamp covers, Le Mans-spec front sill darts, Dunlop-pattern peg-drive alloy wheels with 3-eared spinners, and a competition-spec engine running triple Weber 48DCOEs. The cockpit was fitted with competition harnesses, racing seats and a padded transmission tunnel and under the bonnet, were many upgrades to both the engine and the brakes as fully detailed in the paperwork. It was, perhaps, the ultimate road-going E-Type spec of that era.

At one point it was purchased by Silverstone Auctions owner, Nick Whale, and used enthusiastically on fast road rallies. Later, the file shows it was sold through the auspices of, highly esteemed, Eagle E-Types as a used car worthy of their reputation. Various owners have come and gone according to the paperwork, although most recently there is an invoice on file for £215,000 when #850051 was sold by Hofmanns of Henley on Thames to our vendor.

Today, it's now in full racing competition spec and carries current FIA HTP papers for period F (1962 -1965) Class GTS 12 which are valid until 31-12-2029. The most recent MOT is dated 2018 and, as the car still has a current V5C, it is still useable on the road as well as the track, meaning this early fully-historied car is an interesting proposition for International Rallies and Tours that specialise in genuine period cars.An exciting opportunity for an enthusiast who wants to aim for higher-profile events. Surely Classic Le Mans, Tour Auto and Goodwood all beckon as future possibilities.

1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5 16V

Lot # 376 (Sale Order: 77 of 132)

  • UK-supplied, right-hand drive 190E 2.5-16V presented in outstanding condition

  • Offered with two large box-files of history supporting the current mileage of c120,000

  • Presented in sparkling Astral Silver paintwork with virtually unmarked black leather interior

  • Owned in the 1990's by Stuart Graham, British motorsport legend, saloon car racer and a TT winner on two wheels and four

  • A great opportunity to own a fine example of a 'homologation special' from the golden age of Group A Touring Car racing

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 16th and 30th July. Please contact us on 01926 691 141 to secure your appointment or steven@silverstoneauctions.com to discuss the car in more detail. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to strict COVID-19 guidelines and full instructions for arrival and inspection protocols will be given when making your appointment.

Offered here is a lovely UK supplied 190E 2.5-16v first registered on 17th September 1990. Presenting beautifully in Astral Silver with a virtually unmarked black leather interior, it is clear to see that this example has been well looked after over the years. Accompanying the car are two lever-arch files full of history which detail the maintenance and care this car has received including a complete record of ownership. In the mid-90s, the Mercedes was owned by British motor racing legend, Stuart Graham, the only man to win an Isle of Man TT on two wheels and four.

Forming part of a private collection of interesting sports cars owned by a highly respected client of Silverstone Auctions and only offered due to lack of use, this particular 190E performs as well as it looks. In fact, the car belies the total mileage covered of 120,000. Documented within the paperwork was a speedometer change at c50,000 miles, the current reading is 64,165 and the original speedometer forms part of the sale.

In summary, this is a great example of a 'homologation special' from the golden age of 'Group A' Touring Car racing. Motorsport enthusiasts world-wide have extremely fond memories of watching these mighty Mercedes-Benz racing saloons battle with the nimble BMW E30 M3 and powerful Ford Sierra Cosworths of the era making a great championship and exciting viewing. A great-looking, collectable, fun to drive car should be on all enthusiast's shopping list but, look no further, as here is a great example very sensibly guided.

1959 Daimler Dart SP250 Series A

Lot # 377 (Sale Order: 78 of 132)

  • Potentially historically significant as the eighth right-hand-drive example built

  • Supplied new in November 1959 by the famous Birmingham dealers, Reeve and Stedeford

  • With its first owner until 2001 and only one since. Two owners in 61 years!

  • 2,548cc V8, lightweight fibreglass body and Girling disc brakes. 0-60mph in nine seconds and 120mph

  • Recently undergone a £5,000 repaint back to the gel coat and refinished in Old English White

  • Gently patinated original tan leather interior. Very smart, virtually new Donkey Brown soft top

  • The engine benefits from electronic ignition and has recently been serviced

  • Complete with Heritage Certificate, owners and workshop manuals and a wealth of history

  • With only 2,645 built, these are rare cars and, whilst a little quirky, remain sought-after classics

An unusual departure for a firm more noted for its stately limousines, the SP250 sports car was Daimler’s final fling before its acquisition by Jaguar. Aimed at the North American market and launched in 1959, the SP250 employed a separate ladder-type chassis on which sat controversially styled fibreglass coachwork manufactured by Daimler themselves. Four-wheel disc brakes were an unusual feature at the time but unquestionably the car’s biggest virtue was its magnificent 2.5-litre V8 engine. An outstandingly flexible unit, the smaller of Daimler’s two Edward Turner designed V8’s produced 140bhp, an output good enough to propel the SP250 to a top speed of 125mph. In keeping with the demands of its intended market, automatic transmission was available as an option.

This Daimler SP250 Dart is a very early, first-year production car, supplied new in November 1959 by famous Birmingham motor dealers Reeve & Stedeford. This early model Dart is the eighth right-hand-drive example built, just two after the British Motor Show example (100576). This rare car has been in long term ownership with only one previous owner listed on the logbook and is supplied with its Heritage Certificate, workshop manual, original owner’s handbook, and a history file of invoices and previous MOTs.

This car has been cherished as is evident from the factory-supplied tan leather interior, which is free from rips or tears. The Ivory Paintwork looks stunning, having recently benefitted from a £5,000 refresh that was taken back to the gel coat. The brown convertible cover and the cream tonneau cover both appear in great condition and complement the paintwork nicely.

Mechanically, the Edward Turner-designed 2.5-litre V8 is described as reliable and said to start with no hesitation and idle with ease. This is no surprise, as the vehicle has had a recent service including a new dynamo and fuel pump and no expense has been spared, with even the wiring loom being replaced in recent years for peace of mind. The registration 50 AOG will remain on the Dart.

1995 Aston Martin Virage 5.3 Factory Widebody Volante

Lot # 378 (Sale Order: 79 of 132)

  • One of 26 factory-built, Widebody Volantes with the 5.3-litre V8 engine. Automatic transmission

  • UK-supplied in right-hand drive, one previous owner and 25,000 miles from new

  • Finished in Aston Green with magnolia leather, piped in dark green with dark green carpets. Black Mohair hood

  • Accompanied by an impressive history file, toolkit, manuals, books, spare keys etc

  • June 2020 service and inspection by JCT Aston Martin and now ready for V8 Volante motoring

The Volante (convertible) had been the big seller of the previous generation of AM V8s, so the only surprise was that it took Aston Martin more than two years from the Virage Coupé's introduction to come up with a soft-top sister. The production Virage Volante debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1991, a prototype having been displayed at Birmingham's NEC the previous October. Weighing in at over two tons, the open Volante was even heavier than the closed coupé, itself no lightweight, this increase in weight is accounted for by considerable body strengthening to compensate for the absent roof, plus the extra complication of the power-operated convertible hood. Electrically powered, the latter was beautifully made and incorporated a glass rear window, complete with heated de-misting elements. Mechanically the Volante remained much the same as its closed cousin, though with a slightly lower final drive. Top speed was slightly reduced also to a still outstanding, 150mph. Automatic transmission was standard on the Volante, the original three-speeder being superseded in 1993 by a new four-speed dual-mode (normal/sport) unit as featured on this particular car.

This, UK-supplied, right-hand drive Virage Volante is one of 26 factory-built cars with the 5.3-litre V8 engine. It is superbly finished in Aston Green with Magnolia leather, piped in dark green with dark green carpets and a black mohair hood. This automatic example has only covered some 25,000 miles from new with one previous owner. There is a documented speedo change in the history file, so the car's odometer currently shows 12,400 miles (full details in the file).

Accompanying this rare Aston is a very impressive history file, which contains all the details of the full-service history along with all the books, manuals, toolkit and spare keys. On the 9th June, 2020 JCT Aston Martin Leeds serviced the car along with an inspection, again with all details in the accompanying service book and invoice in the file, meaning this example is on the button ready for the next owner to enjoy.

Low ownership, low miles, good history and low production numbers, makes this example a very interesting proposition.

1961 Jaguar E-Type Roadster - Chassis 850062

Lot # 382 (Sale Order: 83 of 132)

  • Extremely early hand-finished, no heel wells car with outside bonnet locks

  • Matching numbers throughout with original engine, gearbox and differential

  • One of the first batch of 56 dealer demonstrator launch cars. Pictured outside Browns Lane

  • Fastidiously restored to its original specification by XK Engineering over two years

  • This was a total restoration of every part of the car with forensic attention to detail

  • Sherwood Green over Suede Green, all colours, fabrics and finishes are as original

  • Recently finished, the two-year, six-figure project featured in Classic Car magazine throughout

  • Owned by and offered directly from film actor, comedian and petrol head ~ Steve Coogan

The story of the E-Type requires little introduction, however, what perhaps may need some explanation is the position in the market of the very early cars and their importance to collectors and marque enthusiasts alike. In common with Works of Art, Furniture, Philately, Fine Wines and all the other things people collect, the rarest and best quality items tend to attract collector's interest and inevitably, the harder they are to find, the more expensive they can become. Should there be a number of well-heeled collectors chasing a particular painting, for example, then the result can be a serious clash of egos and wallets. This is equally true of Classic Cars and the E-Type is a perfect example. The most sought after of all the E-Types are the first 92 right-hand drive cars produced and these are easily distinguished by their outside bonnet locks. Fifty-six of this first batch were supplied in July 1961 to Jaguar dealerships to be used as demonstrators and they were expressly forbidden to sell them until that September. Interestingly, this car can be seen in the historic photograph outside the Browns Lane Factory of the first batch of RHD 'demonstrator' E-Types set to go off to dealers. With most of the first 20 cars produced being allocated for competition use, the very first road cars are considered to be the Holy Grail of E-Types, and arguably of all collector's cars. Chassis #62 is a rare opportunity to enjoy the thrill of ownership inherent in one of these special early cars. It was rumoured to have been destined for Jaguar dealer, Rossleigh in Edinburgh, as a demonstrator for potential customers in Edinburgh and the surrounding area, however, it was in fact first registered by West Sussex County Council as 171 DBP in August 1961 and sold by Wadhams in Chichester to a Mr Cutley at Hurstpierpoint. Mind you, it did arrive in Bonnie Scotland sometime later and is recorded as belonging to Ian Simpson of North Berwick who owned the car until 1978. According to a letter on file, he apparently bought it as 'a rusty wreck' for £250 subsequently restoring it and registering it as HSS 124, a number plate that was transferred from a Ferguson Tractor. It later became the property of a Mr D Russel of Edinburgh who in turn sold the Jaguar to Mr A Stewart in Fife before a previous client of Silverstone Auctions purchased the car from a gentleman in Edinburgh.

Number #62 is extra special in the history of E-Types in that, from the mid-seventies, it has spent a very quiet life in Scotland living under the radar and having had a number of geographically close, owners. The result of this sheltered life is that until recently its whereabouts have been a mystery to historians and it was one of only a few of the original 92 cars that hadn't been found. This was the case right up until Silverstone Auctions sold this car at the Silverstone Classic in July 2016, and it was then spotted by the eagle-eyed and much-noted TV classic car personality, Quentin Willson. In conversation with his friend and fellow petrol head, actor and comedian Steve Coogan, they hatched a “cunning plan" to go and find the buyer and extract it for Steve’s ever-growing and special collection of rare and desirable classics.

Much like many of its sister cars, #62 had over the years lost some of its distinguishing early features, which had partly helped to hide the significance of this car. Once acquired and following advice from Quentin, himself a prior owner of a very early E-Type FHC, the decision was made to send the car to XK Engineering in Coventry for a total nut and bolt complete restoration which was to take over two years from 2017 until 2019 to complete. The car most importantly retains its original matching numbers body (although naturally a number of panels had been replaced) and engi

1961 Austin Healey 3000 Mk1 BN7 2-Seater

Lot # 383 (Sale Order: 84 of 132)

  • Wimbledon Motor Co. supplied on 17/01/1961

  • BN7 Two-seat Roadster, one of the more rare and desirable Big Healeys

  • Total chassis up restoration with minimal use since

  • Mechanically enhanced, including balanced engine, triple Webers, uprated cooling and rebuilt centre-change gearbox with overdrive

  • Superb panel fit and attention to detail throughout

  • Rebuilt to be used and enjoyed as Donald Healey intended

  • Your earliest inspection is encouraged and welcomed

The Austin Healey 3000 became one of the best-known British classic cars of the 1950's and 1960's following spectacular success in international rallying and circuit racing. A development of the Austin Healey 100-6, itself born of the four-cylinder 100, the 3000 was launched in March 1959 and was a significant improvement on the earlier cars featuring front disc brakes, wire wheels as standard and a more powerful (124bhp) 2,912cc BMC C-Series engine, enabling a top speed of approximately 120mph. There was also a choice of 2-seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) body styles and this choice continued with the arrival of the Mk2 in March 1961.

This stunning example dates from early 1961 and is one of only 17 right-hand drive, two-seat BN7s produced before the arrival of the MK2 in March. It is superbly finished in Gunmetal Grey over St. James Red, a fabulous colour combination that we all assumed was quite a recent creation, but which turns out to have been a factory option in period.

According to its BMIHT Certificate, the Healey was delivered new to Wimbledon Motor Works on January 17th 1961 but, unfortunately, the early history of the car is unknown until, in 1981, the ‘Big Healey’ was exported to the Netherlands. Thankfully it remained in right-hand drive and for the following 25 years, the car was owned by a Mr Cazemir until his passing, at which time the Healey was purchased by a Dutch restoration company. A full nut and bolt restoration was commenced by them with a stunning body refurbishment and full mechanical overhaul including some desirable tweaks within the engine compartment, involving triple Webers, forged pistons, high-lift camshaft, uprated water pump, enhanced cooling, rebuilt centre-change gearbox and overdrive, and I am sure, much more!

It was at this point that our vendor purchased the car which, for some reason, still required finishing. As a Dutchman living in the UK, he had the contacts to not only source the car in the first place but knew where to send the Healey for the finishing touches and so to Bill Rawles emporium it went. Here the car was finally prepared to the remarkable standard which it displays today. Series 3 brakes and a servo were fitted, as were performance inlet and exhaust manifolds. The interior was totally retrimmed, a new hood and tonneau cover were sourced, all the external brightwork was re-chromed or replaced, and the whole effect was enhanced by a set of new chrome wire wheels and a period-style wood-rimmed steering wheel. Now resplendent in its head-turning colour scheme with the performance to match, this Healey stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Having never been on the open market in the UK until now, this is an opportunity not to be missed and your early inspection is invited.

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 16th and 30th July. Please contact us on 01926 691 141 to secure your appointment or charles@silverstoneauctions.com to discuss the car in more detail. 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish

Lot # 384 (Sale Order: 85 of 132)

  • Dramatic Callum-penned bodywork with the debut of the bonded aluminium platform

  • Fitted with a 6-litre, 48-valve V12 producing 460bhp and 400lb.ft. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 190mph

  • The advanced transmission is operated by steering column-mounted F1-style paddles

  • UK-supplied in right-hand drive with fewer than 17,000 miles in the hands of just two keepers

  • Jet Black Metallic coachwork, with contrasting ivory leather interior and charcoal carpets

  • This car benefits from 2004 model-year alloy wheels, red brake calipers, heated front seats, sat nav and a Linn Premium Audio system

An entirely new Aston Martin for the 21st Century, the Vanquish debuted at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2001, with deliveries commencing a few months later. The Vanquish took over from the Vantage V8, the Newport Pagnell factory undergoing an extensive multi-million-pound refurbishment to accommodate it, gaining a new assembly line, paint shop, rolling road and water test facility. Styled by Ian Callum, the man responsible for the DB7, the Vanquish was developed with assistance from Aston Martin's parent company, Ford, using constructional techniques more advanced than those of any then-current road car. The monocoque tub was made of heat-cured bonded aluminium, braced by a central tunnel of carbon fibre to create a lightweight structure of exceptional rigidity, thus enabling the chassis engineers to develop suspension combining excellent handling and road holding with unrivalled ride quality. As well as its superior strength/weight ratio compared to aluminium, the carbon fibre backbone also provided better insulation from the transmission and exhaust heat in the cabin. The all-independent suspension followed the accepted supercar norm and comprised double aluminium wishbones, coil springs, mono-tube damper and anti-roll bar front and rear. Four-wheel ventilated steel disc brakes gripped by four-piston callipers provided all the stopping power one needs, while ABS and traction control afforded maximum security in poor road conditions or 'on the limit'. Aston Martin's first power unit of its type, the 6.0-litre, 48-valve, V12 engine developed 460bhp at 6,800rpm, with 400lb/ft of torque available at 5,500 revs. In its 'Stage 2' Vanquish specification it benefited from an 18kgs weight reduction, most of which was shed from the rotating masses to improve throttle response. A spin-off from Formula 1 technology, the state-of-the-art electronic engine management system provided 'drive by wire' throttle control and was linked to the six-speed manual gearbox's electro-hydraulic change mechanism, a 'first' for a production car. The gearchange was controlled by F1-style paddles and could be operated in either of two modes - fully manual and computer-controlled automatic - with a 'sport' setting available on both.

In most recent private ownership since 2006, this Aston Martin Vanquish, bought from its first keeper in 2006 via Works Service with just c6,800miles, has been serviced and maintained exclusively throughout its life only by Harwoods Ltd of Chichester (the supplying dealer), or Aston Martin Works Service in Newport Pagnell. For periods of her ownership, the London-based businesswoman opted to keep her Aston Martin stored at Newport Pagnell, limiting the miles that were accumulated.

Clearly an exceptionally well-kept example, the light and bright Ivory hide interior shows only very light signs of use, let alone wear, whilst the contrasting Jet Black Metallic coachwork still boasts an enviable shine, despite the difficulties in keeping Black cars looking sharp. Mechanically, the car is reported to be very sound with a good turn of power, smooth delivery of acceleration and accurate gear changes, albeit please remember these are not as lightning-quick when measured against the latest offerings from the brand. Famously, the door rubbers which used to pinch and tear on these models are all in good order on this car, largely no doubt due to the modest number of occasions that it was used annually.

Optional extras for this motorcar include 2004 Model Year wheels, shod with Yokohama “AML” fitment tyres showing good tread, but are now more than eight year’s old and should really require replacement in the not-too-distant future. Further, it has red brake calipers, heated front screen, power fold mirrors, rear park sensors, and the preferred Linn audio system and speakers, plus SatNav.

It's being sold with accompanying handbooks and service book in a dealer-supplied metal folder and has two keys, both with fobs, and both oper

Having reasserted itself at the top of the supercar hierarchy with the first 'Boxer'-the 365GT/4 BB-Ferrari went one better with its successor, the 512BB introduced in October 1976 at the Paris Auto Show. For the new car, Ferrari abandoned its long-standing practice of denoting a model by the capacity of an individual cylinder and adopted the Dino-type nomenclature where '512' indicates 5 litres/12 cylinders. The increase in engine size from the original Boxer's 4.4-litres was made, not so much with increased power in mind, but to enable the 512BB to meet increasingly stringent emissions targets without a loss of performance. Displacement was increased by enlarging both bore and stroke, whilst in addition, the compression ratio was raised and lubrication changed from wet to dry sump. Quoted power remained the same (but may have been more truthful) at 360bhp, and torque was improved to 332 lb/ft at 5000rpm which, coupled with revised gear ratios, made the 512 much more tractable. Styling changes were subtle, with a small chin spoiler added to the nose, NACA ducts added in front of the rear wheels, larger rear arches to accommodate wider rear wheels, and finally, four tail-lights replaced the six on the 365.

Supplied new to its first owner by Ritchies of Glasgow on 7th January 1980, this 512 BB had been specified with Rosso Chiaro paintwork without the black lower panels. Pleasingly, today chassis 27271 presents beautifully in its original paint colour with tan leather seats and is accompanied by a wonderful history file. The file is thick with invoices and related paperwork from over the years including the original purchase order, a wealth of invoices for maintenance by mostly main agents or notable specialists and MOT Certificates dating back to 1984 supporting the indicated mileage. Along with the history file is the original Ferrari owners booklet with handbooks and original service book.

Only 929 512 BB models were manufactured between 1976 and 1981, of which just 101 were in right-hand drive. Chassis number 27271 represents a superb opportunity to invest in a highly collectable Ferrari in fine condition with an impeccable history.

2004 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera Coupe

Lot # 387 (Sale Order: 88 of 132)

  • A late production face-lift Mk2 specified for driving purity with 2WD and a manual gearbox

  • Just 9,500 miles from new and in amazing condition wholly commensurate with the low mileage and diligent ownership by just two previous keepers

  • 3.6-litre dry-sumped, water-cooled flat-6 with 320PS. 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 178 mph

  • Tastefully finished in Polar Silver and optioned with a factory-fitted Aero Kit and Sports exhaust

  • Full service history - most recent major service just over 1,000 miles ago

  • Supplied with a complete book-pack and spare keys

Produced from 1997 to 2004, the 996 received the first all-new platform in the 911’s 34-year existence, but was controversial at the time of its launch mainly because it was the first 911 to switch from air to water-cooling. In 1998, Car and Driver put the Carrera 2 up against the Ferrari 355 and the Porsche came out on top. Furthermore, it was prized as the EVO Magazine car of the year with "its ability to be approachable and accessible like a sports car, but still with the ability to inspire awe like a supercar... on the road its purity of purpose, poise, finesse and honed athleticism allowed it to dominate a test that included the Ferrari F355 and Elise 135".

The base model, the Carrera 2, is now rightly regarded as the purest, most driver-focused model in the range, being rear-wheel drive, with three pedals, and has a beautiful naturally aspirated flat-six. It’s the lightest water-cooled 911 you can buy, the same-generation GT3 included. It’s also 80kg lighter than the air-cooled 993 predecessor, which is 50% wobblier. And you still get the rear +2 seats, as a 996 is 18.5cm longer than the previous 993.

The car presented here is C16 (UK-supplied), last-year-of-production Mk2 (face-lifted) model, with the staggeringly low mileage of just 9,500. It really must be seen to be fully appreciated, this cossetted example really is in superb original condition and still retains that distinctive ‘new car smell’. It was delivered new on the 3rd of January 2004 via Porsche Centre Aberdeen and returned a further three times for a service at 3,175 miles, 5,014 miles, and 6,795 miles, all with its first owner who kept it until 2017. Our vendor acquired the car later in 2017, through Porsche specialist Steve Bull. He, in turn, kept this lovely Porsche in the manner to which it had become accustomed and it has always been garaged and was serviced (including a belt change) at Cotswold Porsche Specialists at 8,382 miles. With a complete book-pack, including its original service booklet, an as-new full key set and invoices for maintenance, this is simply the nicest 996 C2 we have ever offered for sale and it must be one of the best available anywhere currently.

You can now book a one-to-one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 16th and 30th July. Please contact Joe on 07779 082707 / joe@silverstoneauctions.com to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to strict COVID-19 guidelines and full instructions for arrival and inspection protocols will be given when making your appointment.

1963 Austin Mini Cooper 1071 S

Lot # 388 (Sale Order: 89 of 132)

  • Short-lived production run, the 1071 was built between April 1963 and the end of August 1964

  • Manufactured on the 22/10/1963 and supplied new via Vincents of Reading

  • Purchased in November 1963 by Dessie McCartney, the well-known Irish rally driver

  • Driven with much success in many well-known events, including the 1967 Circuit of Ireland Rally

  • Dessie owned the car right up until 1999 before selling it to another Mini enthusiast, who owned it until 2019, spending the last years restoring it, with less than 100 miles covered since

  • Original colours of Almond Green and Old English White roof, as per accompanying Heritage Certificate

  • Believed matching numbers and original shell, correct engine with just 33,093 miles (believed genuine)

  • Twin tanks and genuine Cooper S 4.5J wheels

To many, its designer Alec Issigonis included, the notion that the Mini might have a future as anything other than basic transport was an anathema, and the idea of a high-performance version was laughable. One man, though, saw it quite differently. Racing car manufacturer John Cooper already knew quite a bit about tuning BMC's A-Series engine - he was running the company's Formula Junior effort at the time - and a test drive in a prototype Mini convinced him of its competition potential. John Cooper appealed to BMC Management, with Issigonis' concerns being disregarded and the two good friends eventually cooperated in creating what rapidly became, and still remains, a legendary little motor car - the Mini Cooper. The more powerful Mini Cooper 'S' appeared in 1963 and quickly established itself as the basis for competition-focused models. Larger disc brakes, more luxurious upholstery and discrete 'S' badges on the bonnet and boot were subtle upgrades with the real changes made to the adaptable A-series engine.

The 1071cc Cooper S was the first Cooper S produced by BMC, and the first of the Minis to succeed at the Monte Carlo Rally. Visits to the winners’ circle became a regular event as Mini chalked up numerous international race wins – including three at the prestigious Monte Carlo rally from 1964 to 1967. The definitive ‘Giant Killer’, only 4,000 or so 1071cc-engined Mini Cooper S cars were made between April 1963 and August 1964.

The car presented here is a 1963 Austin Mini Cooper 1071cc 'S' manufactured on the 22nd October 1963 and supplied new via Vincents of Reading. It was subsequently purchased in November 1963 by Dessie McCartney, the well-known Irish rally driver and automotive personality. Dessie drove the car with much success in many prestigious events, including the 1967 Circuit of Ireland Rally, coming 8th, with a certain Paddy Hopkirk coming 1st. There are lots of photos in the owner's file of the Mini in action in period. Obviously attached to the car, Dessie owned it right up until 1999 before selling it to another Mini enthusiast, who in turn owned it until 2019, spending the last four years restoring it, with less than 100 miles covered since. Now resplendent in its original colours of Almond Green and Old English White, as per its accompanying Heritage Certificate, this is a super little car with an interesting provenance. It is believed still matching numbers and we understand retains its original shell, with the correct engine and just 33,093 miles indicated (believed genuine), its purposeful demeanour is finished off with twin tanks and genuine Cooper S 4.5J wheels. With only a few miles covered since restoration, this 1071 Cooper S will make a useful and fun purchase, safe in the knowledge that all the hard work has been done and the "wee car" can be enjoyed as a rare 1071 survivor and a piece of Mini motorsport history.

1996 Ferrari F355 GTB - Manual

Lot # 389 (Sale Order: 90 of 132)

  • A UK-supplied, right-hand drive, manual gearbox, Berlinetta with gleaming Nero paintwork

  • Superb black/grey interior with the highly sought after carbon bucket seat option

  • Only 17,103 miles at the time of cataloguing supported by a comprehensive service history

  • Full mechanical overhaul from front to back in 2019 at a cost of £11,000

  • Offered with original Ferrari leather book pack, tools, V5c and an MOT valid until June 2021

  • Of the 408 UK supplied manual F335's, just 11 had been factory finished in black

Inheriting the proportions of its predecessor, the F355 was outwardly a much better-resolved proposition, both aesthetically and aerodynamically. However, beneath the fabulous styling and smoother skin, were further major advancements, including power steering, variable damping, and a 100cc engine enlargement. The longitudinally mounted 3496cc V8 generated a market-leading 380 horsepower at a spine-tingling 8,250 rpm and the gearbox now had six speeds with a revised synchromesh making gear changes so much smoother. New electronically adjustable shock absorbers varied their stiffness within milliseconds to suit the road surface and the result of all these developments was evident around Ferrari's 1.86 mile Fiorano test track when the F355 was two seconds a lap faster than the 12-cylinder 512 TR.

Sitting on the cusp between analogue and digital, the F355 is considered the forerunner of all modern Ferraris and, as the last of the hand-built cars before the 360 and later descendants moved to mass production, will inevitably slip into the role of 'Classic Ferrari' with ease becoming increasingly sought after as time goes by.

On offer here is a truly stunning F355 with striking black paintwork and black/grey interior including the highly sought after carbon bucket seat option. It spent a period of time, correctly stored off the road probably explaining the modest mileage of just 17,000 at the time of consignment. In 2018, it was released from storage and subjected to a complete mechanical overhaul from front to back at a cost just shy of £11,000 carried out by Ferrari specialists, AML Performance Ltd. in Macclesfield. This included; cambelt, pulleys and tensioner, clutch and clutch bearings, front and rear brakes, period-correct front and rear tyres, water pump and ancillary belts and hoses.

Prior to the extensive recommissioning service, it had obviously been well looked after as is evident from the comprehensive service record including many belt changes by Ferrari main dealers, Maranello in Egham and Lancaster in Colchester. The car’s most recent service was in May 2019 by Stratstone Ferrari in Wilmslow at a cost of £2,000 detailed on a copy invoice in the owner’s file. In total, around £18,000 has been invested in the last nine months to return this wonderful Ferrari to the condition in which you see it today.

Every iteration of the F355 is desirable, however, if you really enjoy extending your Ferrari, the Berlinetta with a manual gearbox and carbon buckets is undoubtedly the way to go. This is a really lovely example offered with its original Ferrari book pack, tools, V5c, an MOT until June 2021 and appears very sensibly guided.

Please contact us on 01926 691 141 to secure your appointment or steven@silverstoneauctions.com to discuss the car in more detail. According to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate on file, this sparkling, home-market Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe was manufactured in December 1963, supplied new by Austin Monks of Boston, Lincolnshire, and first registered in February 1964. Subject to a ground-up nut and bolt restoration in 2016 over the course of 12 months with work carried out by XK Classics in London, the final result is magnificent. With superb attention to detail, the body was professionally repainted in its original Carmen Red and re-trimmed with a beautifully finished Biscuit leather interior. Pleasingly, it appears the E-Type retains its original engine block and cylinder-head with both numbers corresponding to the Heritage Certificate. Restored with superb attention to detail to mostly original specification with a few sensible updates such as Coopercraft front and rear brakes. Today the car presents very nicely and is accompanied by a history file containing a wealth of invoices for parts supplied by specialists such as SNG Barratt, old MOT Certificates, a current V5 and the current MOT valid to 30 June 2021.

In summary, this is a fabulous Series 1 E-Type which seems to tick all the boxes, well restored, UK-supplied, right-hand drive, numbers matching, original colour and correctly stored since restoration. Offered at a realistic guide, with restoration costs far exceeding the upper estimate, this is a great opportunity.

1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series 1 Roadster

Lot # 391 (Sale Order: 92 of 132)

  • Delightfully presented in Willow Green over magnolia with a black hood

  • Known history from day one with only three owners since new in 1967

  • Fresh paint and a re-trim in South Carolina in the early 2000s

  • On the Concours circuit in the States during 2013 with much success

  • Imported to the UK and a total engine rebuild by E-Type UK. Matching numbers

  • Remaining in superb condition throughout, a really pretty car

  • Your earliest inspection is encouraged and welcomed

Built towards the end of Series 1 production, this beautifully original E-Type found its first home in Seattle, Washington State with John M Fernandez before passing to its second custodian, Peter Wilzbach, in South Carolina in the late 1990s. Clearly in need of a little TLC by this time, over the next few years, the Jaguar was regularly used but received attention as and when required and this included a fresh coat of Willow Green paint and a full retrim, with the remainder of the car being checked and detailed where needed. The body is believed to be still wearing its original panels and under the outer skin, all remains superbly original with the correct stampings in place, the front frame being the most obvious. It was during this period that the E-Type embarked on a successful stint on the Concours show circuit winning 'Best Jaguar in Class' within the Jaguar Clubs of North America in 2013 scoring a tremendous 99.4%, and the trophy remains with the car to this day.

Shortly after, the car was advertised for sale in Hemmings Motor News and sold on the first day to our vendor who flew from London and when he saw the car, was so impressed that he paid the asking price, shipping the car back to the UK to join his small collection. On its arrival, a program of mechanical works was decided upon to raise the vehicle to its current level. This included a total strip and rebuild of the engine by E-Type UK, rear axle removal, a diff rebuild including a change to Euro-spec diff ratios and the car was fully detailed before everything was reunited. Remaining in superb condition throughout and still with its original toolkit in place, this genuine three-owner E-Type is an absolute delight.

On the button, sensibly guided and waiting for only its fourth proud owner since leaving the factory on 15 February 1967, this is an excellent opportunity to own a cared for Series 1 in one of the most attractive colour combinations we have seen.

1994 Ferrari 348 Spider

Lot # 392 (Sale Order: 93 of 132)

  • One of just 68, UK-delivered, right-hand drive Spiders with just 18,980 miles indicated (atoc)

  • The low mileage is supported by a detailed history file including specialist invoices, receipts and old MOTs

  • Beautifully presented in summer-fresh Giallo Modena with black leather seats and a black hood

  • Known to Silverstone Auctions, one of the best we have seen. Offered from a private collection

  • Dance on the pedals and enjoy the ‘click-clack’ of that open gate with the wind in your hair and the rasp of that glorious V8 soundtrack over your shoulder. A wonderful introduction to classic Ferrari ownership

In late 1993, the 348 was revised, with a few subtle styling changes (front grille, rear chrome Cavallino, and removable seat cushions), and now boasted 320bhp from the same 3.4-litre engine in F119H-spec with an increased compression ratio (10.8-1), modified camshaft timing, a new exhaust, and a Bosch Motronic 2.7, engine management system.

This delightful, right-hand drive Ferrari 348 Spider was delivered new on 02 August 1994 to its first owner by Lancaster Ferrari, Colchester main agents. Specified from new in Giallo Modena with a black leather interior and a black hood, great colours for a 348, this example presents almost as well as the day it was collected new from the showroom with the paintwork still retaining a deep gloss and the interior displaying minimal wear. Clearly well looked after over the years as evidenced by its overall condition and the original service book stamped up-to-date with 11 stamps from main dealers or highly regarded marque specialists (most recent in October 2019 at 18,805 miles). The car is accompanied by the original leather-bound Ferrari book-pack containing the owner's manuals, a fresh MOT showing no advisories (valid until 22 June 2021), the tonneau cover, tool kit and spare keys.

On offer from a significant private collection, it's believed that Ferrari UK only imported 68 right-hand drive Spiders, making this a very rare car. The outstanding condition of this beautiful 348 is certainly commensurate with its impeccable service history, all of it suggesting caring ownership, and once viewed, it will be difficult to resist the joy of three-pedal, open-top touring with that glorious V8 crackle in the background.

1980 Talbot Lotus Sunbeam ex-Works Rally Car

Lot # 393 (Sale Order: 94 of 132)

  • One of four cars entered by Talbot to win the 1981 World Rally Championship

  • Driven by Russell Brookes and Mike Broad in the 1981 Lombard RAC

  • Used regularly since 2007 by Russell in many Historic events since he retired in 1992 and in his last ever competitive appearance, the Halloween Historic Stages Rally 2010

  • Regularly seen at Demo Events; Raceretro, Rally Show, Goodwood FOS, Rally Day, Rallylegends San Marino, Deju Vu Killarney and Ulster

  • Driven competitively during the last 15 years by various upcoming drivers as well as Russell and Louise Aitken-Walker during feature events

  • Original running gear, engine, gearbox and axle. Shocks and brakes are all period, with some original parts. All maintained on a regular basis with no expense spared.

  • Currently, the car is in full Rally Specification, all in date, and has an MSA Passport. Many of the original parts have been kept and are available with the car

Sadly, British Rally legend Russell Brookes passed away late in 2019 at the age of 74. Russell, the Double British Rally Champion, 1974 Welsh Rally Champion and 1989 Irish Tarmac Rally Champion driver will forever be associated with his “Andrews Heat for Hire” liveried rally cars and, John Andrews, founder of the Andrews brand recalls “I had the good fortune to meet Russell Brookes in early 1974 which was the 10th year of trading for the Andrews Company. A raw sponsorship deal was agreed for our Anniversary Year with inevitably a bonus if he won that particular domestic Rally Championship. What followed was 17 years of highly successful Motorsport Sponsorship which I believe was, at the time, a record. The Andrews Heat for Hire rally car colours are still an iconic record within Rallysport and Russell’s determination to win, whatever the challenge, was an inspiration to us all.”

We are delighted to be able to offer KKV 394V, the very last rally car driven competitively by Russell during his retirement years and fittingly one of the famous ‘Andrews Heat For Hire’ Works cars from the early 1980s.

However, to begin at the beginning, in 1979, following the creation of the Talbot brand out of the defunct Chrysler Europe, Rootes and Simca companies, parent company PSA decided that the new division needed some serious publicity to boost its image. This was to be achieved by a venture into the high-profile World Rally Championship (WRC) and Talbot Sport was created to manage the project. A 1-3-4 finish on the RAC Rally late in 1980 provided a major morale boost and four cars were entered for the 1981 season. Despite the fact that Talbot Sport was seriously underfunded for 1981 compared to rivals like Ford, Datsun, Audi with the Quattro and Renault with the R5 Turbo, Talbot won the WRC Manufacturers title. One of the four factory-supported cars, KKV 394V proudly wore the 'Andrews Heat for Hire' livery and was piloted by Russell Brooks and the talented Mike Broad.

Our vendor has restored the car to its former glory and cherished it for almost fifteen years during which time he has used it competitively in many historic rallies with a number of upcoming and established drivers being offered a drive at various competition and demonstration events. None, however, are as associated with this car as Russell who drove the car regularly whenever his diary permitted. Having retired in 1992 from professional rally driving he continued at club, fun and historic level up until 2010 and poignantly, at the Halloween Historic Stages Rally in Tipperary, KKV was to be his last properly competitive drive. In our vendor’s words; “I have owned the car since 2005 and it was always my intention to have it out on the ‘Stages’ and that is what I have achieved with this car up to the present day, quite often in the hands of Russel Brookes, its original driver. Russell has competed in many Historic events since he retired in 1992 and his last competitive event was the 2010 Haloween Historic Stages in Carrick on Suir, Co. Tipperary. It was a unique event that was televised with no fewer than 4 drivers from the 70s and 80s. Jimmy McRae, Donie Keating, Kenny McKinstry and current Historic Champion Ray Cunningham. (DVD available)”.

Further Competition Events include the 2007 Emerald Stages Longcross LIMC., Loughgall Festive of Speed, 2008 Clare Stages Rally, 2008 Colin McRae Stages (The Stars), 2008 Killarney Historic Stages Rally, 2013 Roger Albert Clark Historic Rally, 2014 Roger Albert Clark Championship.

1998 Ferrari F355 F1 Berlinetta

Lot # 394 (Sale Order: 95 of 132)

  • Right-hand drive Singapore-delivered car finished in gorgeous Azzurro California and Blu Scuro leather

  • Delivered to the original owner on 31/08/1998, imported into the UK on 01/08/1999, being first serviced here at 5,888 km (odometer subsequently change to MPH by Stratstone Ferrari)

  • Just under 27,000 miles, FSH (documented in its original service book), numerous invoices for maintenance and a great specification including a rear Challenge grill and a Sports exhaust

  • Full cambelt service at 25,808 miles and annual service carried out by Meridian Modena at 26,444 miles

  • Longitudinally mounted, 375bhp, F1 electro-hydraulic, paddle-shift automatic, six-speed gearbox

  • A fabulous example of a timeless Pininfarina design classic

The Ferrari F355 is a modern classic, so beautiful, so well-engineered and so well received that it marked the beginning of the end of the old-guard ‘Ferraristi' philosophy that the only "real" Ferraris were ones with 12-cylinder engines. The Ferrari F355 Berlinetta and Targa GTS burst onto the world stage in the spring of 1994, with almost exactly the same dimensions as its predecessor the 348, yet it was virtually a new car, as its stunning coachwork indicated. Many hours of wind tunnel testing influenced the harmonious shape which incorporated an F1 style flat bottom with channelled airflow generating enough downforce to offset any lift. The longitudinally mounted 3496cc V8 produced a stunning 374bhp at a spine-tingling 8250rpm, and the gearbox now had six speeds with a new type of synchromesh making changes so much smoother. New electronically adjustable shock absorbers varied their stiffness within milliseconds to suit the road surface. Around Ferrari's 1.86-mile Fiorano test track, the 355 was two seconds a lap faster than the 12-cylinder 512 TR and that level of performance combined with its sensational shape made it a worldwide success story.

The car presented here is a 1998 Ferrari F355 F1 Berlinetta, a right-hand drive example that was supplied new to Singapore. Owners in Singapore tend to be car enthusiasts and this example is testament to that and looks stunning in the rarely seen Azzurro California paintwork complementing the Blu Scuro leather.

Delivered to the original owner on 31st August 1998, it was soon imported into the UK on the 1st August 1999 and was first serviced here at 5,888 km (odometer subsequently change to MPH by Stratstone Ferrari). Now showing just under 27,000 miles, the car has a thorough servicing history, documented in its original service book, numerous invoices for maintenance and is further enhanced by a great specification including a rear 'Challenge' grille and a sports exhaust. Reassuringly, it benefited from a full cam-belt service at 25,808 miles and an annual service carried out by Meridian Modena at 26,444 miles.

These very usable modern Ferraris are now getting harder to find with such low mileage and, in such a good condition and in a fabulous colour, even more so.

1966 Aston Martin DB6

Lot # 395 (Sale Order: 96 of 132)

  • Low ownership, matching chassis and engine number, ZF five-speed manual gearbox

  • Continuation green logbook, cloth cover, original handbook, workshop manual, Heritage Certificate, sundry old MOTs dating back to 1974 and numerous parts receipts

  • Over £30,000 recently spent on mechanicals at Aston Martin Engineering Derby

  • Unleaded cylinder head conversion (Aston Engineering). Right-hand drive, 81,000 miles

The culmination of Aston Martin's long-running line of DB six-cylinder sports saloons and thus considered by many to be the last 'real' Aston, the DB6 was introduced in 1965, updating the DB5. Although recognisably related to the Touring-styled DB4 of 1958, the DB6 abandoned the Carrozzeria Touring-developed Superleggera body structure of its predecessors in favour of conventional steel fabrication whilst retaining the aluminium outer panels.

Increased rear-seat space was the prime DB6 objective so the wheelbase was now four inches longer than before, resulting in an extensive restyle with more-raked windscreen, raised roofline and reshaped rear quarter windows. Opening front quarter lights made a reappearance but the major change was at the rear where a 'Kamm tail' with spoiler improved the aerodynamics, greatly enhancing stability at high speeds. These many dimensional changes were integrated most successfully, as the DB6's overall length increased by only two inches. The Tadek Marek-designed six-cylinder engine had been enlarged to 3,995cc for the preceding DB5 and remained unchanged. Power output on triple SU carburettors was 282bhp, rising to 325bhp in Vantage specification, complete with triple Webers. Borg-Warner automatic transmission was offered alongside the standard ZF five-speed gearbox, and for the first time, there was optional power-assisted steering.

First registered in Newcastle-upon-Tyne as 'LVK 37D' on 11th January 1966, this particular matching chassis and engine example, chassis DB6/2470/R, has clearly led an interesting life with previous owners enjoying the car for long periods of time. Details of the car’s life and work carried out over the years are contained within the interesting owner's file, and we thoroughly recommend interested parties make an appointment to come along and have a look for themselves. The factory-fitted engine (number 400/2379) has had its cylinder head converted to unleaded by Aston Engineering and, during our vendor's ownership, over £30,000 has been spent on the mechanicals at Aston Martin Engineering Derby, to ensure this DB6 drives as well as it looks.

One for the true DB6 enthusiast, this appealing Aston shows a highly credible 81,000 miles on its odometer and is offered for sale with continuation green logbook, cloth cover, original handbook, workshop manual, Heritage Certificate, sundry old MOTs dating back to 1974, and numerous parts receipts.

1981 DeLorean DMC-12

Lot # 396 (Sale Order: 97 of 132)

  • Bought directly from the first US owner and registered in the UK in 2017 by our vendor

  • A manual gearbox car with 25,850 miles (atoc) and an MOT until June 2021

  • Detailed history file that includes invoices, handbooks and service books

  • Fitted car cover, original owners kit and the V5c showing one former keeper

  • The DeLorean DMC-12 is acknowledged as a must-have for any enthusiast and very few are just two owners from new.

The DeLorean DMC-12 was a ground-breaking, innovative sports car manufactured by John DeLorean's 'DeLorean Motor Company' for the American market from 1981-83. The car featured gull-wing doors and an unusual fibreglass chassis and underbody structure, along with a brushed stainless steel body and is probably most widely known for its appearance as a time machine in the 'Back to the Future' film trilogy. It was designed by the talented Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital Design and built on a chassis engineered by Lotus with a 2.9-litre V6 engine sourced from Peugeot-Renault-Volvo.

This rare, five-speed manual example was manufactured in Belfast in 1981, shipped to the United States and remained with the first owner in Florida until being purchased directly from him by our vendor. Registered in the UK to the importing shipping agent on 1st May 2017, the car was subsequently registered to our vendor three days later on the 4th May.

The car features the desirable grey leather interior, as seen in the movie car, original radio and clock with no apparent cracking to the dashboard which is a common fault with the DMC-12. The history file is extensive and includes the service history, a copy of the purchase agreement, original cleaning kit, original spare wheel, DMC cover, and a large quantity of American paperwork relating to servicing works. To this consignor’s eye, the alloys wheels could do with being refurbished to correct the surface reaction. Supplied to auction with an MOT valid until June 2021 and a UK V5C.

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between the 16th and 30th July. Please contact Arwel Richards on 07434 960868 or arwel@silverstoneauctions.com to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

The health and safety of both our customers and team remain the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to strict COVID-19 guidelines and full instructions for arrival and inspection protocols will be given when making your appointment.

2002 Bentley Continental R Mulliner Widebody

Lot # 397 (Sale Order: 98 of 132)

  • Number 130 of a total production run of 148

  • Comprehensive history file with known ownership from day one

  • RREC aficionado owned and maintained

  • Chosen as Best Example of the Model at the RREC Annual Rally at Burghley House in 2019

  • A rare low production run Bentley in stunning order throughout

  • Your earliest inspection is encouraged and welcomed

Introduced in 1991, the Continental R was the first Bentley in 26 years that did not share its bodywork with a concurrent Rolls-Royce model and was inspired by the very stylish Continental R-Type of the 1950s. The elegant two-door coachwork was styled by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, a duo whose résumé included sports cars like the Aston Martin Virage. At £175,000, however, this newcomer was one of the world’s most expensive cars, although at least it was also one of the fastest. At launch, this latest Continental used the familiar 6.75-litre V8 with a big Garrett turbocharger and an intercooler in the same state of tune as in the Bentley Turbo R. Crewe still declined to provide official power outputs at the time, although it’s estimated that around 325bhp was on tap, along with a huge amount of torque. Top speed was governed to 145mph, with 60mph arriving in just 6.6 seconds – all in a car weighing around 2.5 tons, on a 120-inch wheelbase and with an overall length of 17.5 feet!

Five years later Bentley introduced a short-wheelbase version dubbed the Continental T that was equipped with an uprated engine developing 420 hp and an impressive 650 foot-pounds of torque available at only 2,200 rpm and it wasn't long before Bentley customers were expressing an interest in equipping the “wide-body” Continental R model with the T’s more powerful engine. Shortly afterwards, the Continental R Mulliner was introduced at the 1999 Geneva Salon, its nomenclature paying homage to H.J. Mulliner, the British coachbuilder responsible for the original R-Type’s breathtaking fastback bodywork. The R Mulliner’s wide-body configuration offered spacious interior elegance restoring the rear legroom lost in the 'T', while the turbocharged V-8 was capable of rocketing the car to a top speed of nearly 170 mph. Individually tailored to customer order, the R Mulliner was Bentley’s ultimate 20th-century combination of luxury and performance, produced in a modest quantity of as few as 148 examples.

This superb example is finished in Silver Storm over Nero leather and is one of only thirteen produced in 2002 out of a total production run of just sixty-three right-hand-drive cars. Although the dealer's list price was a, not unsubstantial, £225,000 the first owner of this particular 'R' obviously did not leave too many of the boxes on the 'Options List' unticked as the final purchase price just over £242,000 in May 2002. The entire production run (1992 – 2003) amounted to just 148 in ‘wide-body’ configuration and our vendor's car is Number 130. In exceptional condition throughout and with a recorded mileage of just 32,338, this four owner from new and retired engineer owned Bentley is accompanied by a total and comprehensive service history including detailed invoices and every prior MOT and is offered freshly serviced and with a recently issued MOT Certificate.

Our vendor is a very knowledgeable RREC and BDC supporter and although the car is regularly used, it remains beautifully presented as illustrated by being chosen as the Best Example of the Model in the 100 years of Bentley parade at the RREC Annual Rally at Burghley House in 2019.

This is an opportunity to acquire one of the very best, if not the best Bentley 'Wide-body' on the road today. These desirable models are rightfully stretching their legs in the classic car market, so don’t miss out before these rare sporting Bentleys arrive in six-figure territory.

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 16th and 30th July. Please contact us on 01926 691 141 to secure your appointment or charles@silverstoneauctions.com to discuss the car in more detail. 1994 Porsche 911 (993) Cabriolet Tiptronic

Lot # 398 (Sale Order: 99 of 132)

  • The 993 was the final generation of air-cooled 911s, and as such will always have a special place in the affections of Porsche enthusiasts

  • Owned by our vendor, a long-time Porsche Centre principal and marque aficionado, since 2012 who ensured it was serviced every year

  • Prior to our vendor's purchase, it was completely checked over by senior Porsche Gold Standard technicians, who both gave it an excellent mechanical rating, plus the official Porsche repairers who confirmed it had never had any major bodywork repairs

  • Original service book is complete, with all servicing, except one, being done at Porsche Centres

  • Winner of a Porsche Club GB Concours event (with circa 80 cars in attendance) in 2015

  • Fitted with a new Porsche factory Cabriolet roof and mechanism

In 1993 Porsche introduced what is regarded by many as the most beautiful 911 of all: the Type 993. Over the years the 911 had received numerous aerodynamic and safety-inspired add-ons, diluting the purity of the original form; the Type 993’s arrival marked a return to basic principles, being recognisably a 911 but one in which all functions had been harmoniously integrated in a truly outstanding example of modern automotive styling. The range offered remained pretty much as before, comprising conventional two-wheel (Carrera 2) and four-wheel drive (Carrera 4) models, the legendary Turbo and the Cabriolet convertible, all powered by the latest, 3.6-litre version of Porsche’s perennial flat-six engine. The Carrera, Carrera S, Cabriolet and Targa models (2WD) were available with a Tiptronic four-speed automatic transmission.

The car presented here is a 1994 Porsche 911 (993) Cabriolet Tiptronic in attractive Iris Blue Metallic paintwork with a Marble Grey interior. Delivered new on the 12th August 1994 through Porsche AFN of London, the car has had just three previous keepers; the current one (our vendor) from 2012, has spent his professional life as a Porsche Centre Principal – so he knows a good Porsche! Prior to his purchase, it was completely checked over by senior Porsche ‘Gold Standard’ technicians, who both gave it an excellent mechanical rating, plus the official Porsche repairers who confirmed it had never had any major bodywork repair. With a complete service history, regular maintenance, and fastidious ownership, quite rightly the car won a Porsche Club GB Concours event (with circa 80 cars in attendance) in 2015. It was also on display in a Porsche Centre to showcase past models.

Supplied with an impressive history file, full of invoices for maintenance, a Porsche COA, its complete book-pack (including a fully stamped-up service booklet), this particularly healthy car is in exceptional condition for its age/mileage (101,334). 993s are special Porsches and there are not many examples left like this, especially at such a tempting guide price.

  • Supplied by H.R. Owen, London and first registered on the 21/10/2002

  • Of the 154 Wide Bodied Mulliners produced, only 23 were in right-hand drive

  • One of the most extensive history files we have ever seen with a modern car

  • Showing some 29,676 miles (atoc) with maintenance and servicing bills of £30,000

  • History file includes service books and reams of invoices and an MOT until October 2020

  • A rare opportunity to join the exclusive club of limited production hand-built Bentleys

The Bentley Azure was launched in 1995 and cost £215,000 in the UK. Hailed by its maker as, "the world's best convertible", the Azure lived up to that grand title, proving an immense success especially in North America where its combination of unmatched luxury, effortless performance, and soft-top style was found highly attractive.

From 1999 until the end of production, the Azure was also available in Mulliner 'Wide Body' specification. Introduced at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, the aggressive-looking Mulliner could be ordered with special bespoke trim and additional equipment and permitted the buyer the option of further customisation during the build process. Pricing varied by car, as equipment could be significantly different from one to the next depending on customer requirements.

For the Azure Mulliner, Bentley's 6.75-litre V8 engine was up-rated, producing a maximum of 420bhp and 645lb/ft of torque, while the suspension was stiffened to improve the road-holding. When production ceased in 2003 a total of 1,403 Azures of all types had been built, of which only 154 were Mulliner 'Wide Body' models and just 23 in right-hand drive. The ultimate Azure, the Mulliner 'Wide Body' represents the height of motoring luxury and elegance; top-down touring was never more exclusive or brutish in looks.
