1972 Rover P6 3500 Estoura

Lot # 528 (Sale Order: 28 of 89)

Finished in Lunar Grey with a Black Everflex roof, this example of Rover's 'Lifestyle Estate' would benefit from some TLC.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Battersea-based coachbuildersFLM Panelcraft started producing their own estate conversion of the P6, called the 'Estoura'. The name is presumably a contraction of the words estate and tourer.
  • The conversions were completed by H.R.Owen and Crayford Engineering with bodywork executed by Panelcraft
  • From 1970 onwards the estate was marketed (with the factory's blessing) by BL dealers HR Owen Limited and therefore factory warranties were carried forward
  • A little over 200 cars were believed to have been produced
  • 3.4-litre V8, 16-valve, twin SU Carbs producing 115bhp and 155 lb-ft. Lunar Grey/Black Everflex roof

1946 Pontiac Streamliner 2-door Coupe

Lot # 529 (Sale Order: 29 of 89)

Straight out of an American fifties, black and white gangster movie and equally impressive in the metal.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • The Harley Earl-penned Streamliners were notable for their pronounced fastback styling and massive multi-blade chrome grille and wraparound bumpers
  • Powered by a 249ci (3.9-litre) straight-eight engine that drives through a three-speed manual gearbox
  • We understand that the car was subject to a major restoration around 2010 which included: a repaint; replacement overhauled engine and transmission; new exhaust system and dashboard; and extensive re-chroming
  • Restored by Rick Shoesmith who received a gold award from the Antique Automobile Club of America for the quality of the restoration he carried out on the car (certificate in history file)
NB. Our vendor does not have a V5 for this vehicle and it doesn't appear to have been UK registered. Potential buyers will need to take this into consideration.

1960 Ford Consul Mk II Farnham Estate (204E)

Lot # 530 (Sale Order: 30 of 89)

Abbotts of Farnham had also converted the Mk1, but the extra length of the Mk2 enabled it to create a station wagon with a certain degree of panache.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • In 1956, a new Consul appeared with the Ford code of 204E, however, the car was still the four-cylinder sub-model of the 6-cylinder Zephyr/Zodiac range, with which it shared the same basic body shell
  • With its vestigial fins and dashing looks, chief stylist Colin Neale's Mk2's appearance represented a form of affordable Americana and divided opinion
  • Formica kitchens, telephones that didn't need the operator to assist with a trunk call and a family Ford with wings, finished in Caribbean Turquoise and sitting on Whitewall tyres, what was the World coming to?
  • The new-look was to prove really popular and it wasn't long before a convertible and an estate were on the drawing board with E.D. Abbott once again being tasked with designing the Estate
  • They had also converted the Mk1 (we have one in the sale), but the extra length of the Mk2 enabled it to create a station wagon with a certain degree of panache
  • Finished in Caribbean Turquoise over Ermine White, the 1703cc 4-cylinder Consul Estate on offer here is totally evocative of the period and, once recommissioned, will be an interesting addition to any collection of sixties Fords

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Nick Bicknell on 07957 279 000 / nickb@classiccarauctions.co.uk to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

  • The A70 Hereford replaced the Hampshire in 1950 and was wider and slightly longer with an extra 3 inches in the wheelbase
  • Powered by a 2,199cc engine producing 68 bhp. Between 1950-1954 50,421 were made
  • A new addition to the range of body styles was a 2-door convertible with coachwork by Carbodies of Coventry

1953 Morris Oxford Series MO

Lot # 532 (Sale Order: 32 of 89)

The MO made its debut alongside its little brother, the Morris Minor, at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • By the late 1940s, Morris desperately needed a modern, mid-sized, family saloon, and in 1948 they launched the new Oxford MO
  • The Oxford featured an all unit-construction, four-door body, which had a similar appearance to the equally new Morris Minor MM
  • It featured torsion bar front suspension with rack and pinion steering just like the Morris Minor, and its brakes were hydraulically operated drums all round
  • The car was powered by an all-new side valve 1476cc four-cylinder engine fed by an SU 1 1/4" carburettor
  • History file, NI registration, photos of restoration etc

Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • In addition to the conventional Austin A40 family car, the company also provided a two-door sports version, which made its début at the 1949 London Motor Show
  • Aluminium bodied, four seats, engineering done in conjunction with Jensen Motors

1949 Bentley MkVI Mulliner Lightweight Aluminium Saloon

Lot # 534 (Sale Order: 34 of 89)

Chassis #B299EW is one of 125 Aluminium Mk VI, six-light sports saloons built to Design No 7059/C by H.J.Mulliner in Chiswick.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • These very special all-aluminium Lightweight Saloons were offered by H.J. Mulliner to those wanting something sleeker and more stylish than Bentley's Standard Steel Saloon
  • The coachbuilt cars were considerably lighter and stiffer than the Standard Steel and benefited from the aircraft construction techniques that Mulliner had perfected during the war years, with much of the framework in cast aluminium and most of the outer panels in aluminium sheet
  • A significant premium reinforced the idea that these Lightweights were only reserved for Bentley's most discerning customers, with a price tag of £5,105 versus the £3,674 for the Standard Steel Saloon

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Arwel Richards on 07434 960 868 / arwel@silverstoneauctions.com to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

1960 Rover P4 100 Woodie Estate

Lot # 535 (Sale Order: 35 of 89)

Well known in Rover circles, this unique P4 was converted into a 'Woodie' by its fourth owner in late 1972.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Incredibly strong, smooth and comfortable, the P4 is one of the best-made cars ever to be mass-produced in the UK
  • In production from 1949 until 1964, it came in a bewildering number of versions but all were excellent cars, furnished to a very high standard with plenty of wood and leather, and were enormously popular with the middle-class motorist
  • Considered by many to be the ultimate development of the P4, the Rover 100 was produced from 1960 until 1962. A replacement for the Rover 90 and 105, it incorporated a number of changes inspired by the introduction of the new Rover 3-litre (P5), the engine being a seven-bearing, short-stroke version of the 3-litre. Displacing 2,625cc, the straight-six developed 104 bhp and in conjunction with the four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox gave a 95mph top speed
  • Originally registered on 01/10/1960 this Rover P4 100 started life as a saloon finished in the rare colour of Norse Blue
  • In late 1971/early 1972, the car was converted into a one-off estate by its fourth owner, Malcolm Turney
  • Widely documented in Rover circles and has featured in a number of magazine articles including that of the Rover P4 Drivers Guild
Note: On successful purchase of this lot a new V5C will need to be applied for by submitting a form V62 to the DVLA at a cost of £25.
You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Simon Langsdale on 07496 556 325 / simon@classiccarauctions.co.uk to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

1947 Triumph Roadster (18TR)

Lot # 536 (Sale Order: 36 of 89)

This lovely example of the 1,800cc Triumph Roadster is one of only 2,501 built.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • A landmark model in the history of the Coventry firm, the 1800 Roadster was one of the first post-war designs to bear the Triumph name. Standard was already supplying Jaguar with a 1,776cc overhead-valve engine and four-speed gearbox and these, together with the existing Flying Standard rear axle, were chosen for the new car
  • The chassis, an all-new design featuring independent front suspension, comprised two large-diameter steel tubes joined by cross-braces
  • Early post-war steel shortages meant that the Roadster body (apart from its steel wings) was built from Birmabright aluminium alloy, almost certainly left over from aircraft production. This lightweight and durable bodywork combined with a marine-spec ash frame sat on a reassuringly robust tubular steel chassis that had a high corrosion resistance due to its significant chrome content.
  • Styled by Standard's Frank Callaby, the Roadster's elegant bodywork was unusual in retaining the dickey seat that had been a feature of the pre-war Triumph Dolomite Roadster Coupé
  • The engine was a 1776cc, 4-cylinder overhead-valve unit, developing 65bhp, and had a lot in common with the engine built by Standard exclusively for the Jaguar SS. A four-speed, right-hand column-change was used, which allowed the middle seat passenger to sit in comfort.
  • Though not a sports car, the Triumph was acceptably fast in its day managing a top speed of around 80 miles per hour and gained its notoriety as the daily transport for 'John Nettles', the Jersey-based detective in the 'Bergerac' television series

The 2500S was only in production for two years with very few estates built and consequently they are now rare.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • With the arrival of the twin-carburettor 2500S, Triumph's stylish executive saloon finally had the performance and reliability it deserved
  • Final development of the Triumph 2000 theme, displacing the fuel-injected 2.5PI
  • Overdrive, power-assisted steering, stiffer suspension and Stag-type 14ins alloy wheels were all standard
  • This example is finished in Tahiti Blue (146) with tan trim (C74)

1951 Austin Princess II (A135 DS3)

Lot # 538 (Sale Order: 38 of 89)

Sharing its chassis with the A125 Sheerline, the A135 Princess was built by Vanden Plas at their Kingsbury works in North London.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • In 1947, Austin produced two virtually identical chassis, one for the A110 (later A125 Sheerline, built entirely by Austin at their Longbridge factory) and the A120 (later A135) chassis used by Vanden Plas to produce the Princess at their Kingsbury works
  • Although Vanden Plas was by now wholly owned by Austin and much of the running gear and instrumentation was the same in the two cars, the Princess was the Austin flagship, with a higher specification leather, wool and Burr Walnut interior
  • Subject to an older restoration. Last MOT 2013. Service manual and limited history file

1981 Maserati Merak SS (Tipo AM122/A)

Lot # 539 (Sale Order: 39 of 89)

The ultimate Merak; Right-hand drive, 220bhp SS classically finished in Rosso over Nero.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Launched in 1972, the Merak used a stretched, 3.0-litre, 190bhp version of the four-cam V6 that had debuted in the Citroën SM
  • Competition from Ferrari's new Dino V8 prompted the introduction of a more powerful version of the Merak, the SS, with a revised interior including the Bora dashboard
  • The 220bhp, V6 SS had three x Weber 44DCNF carbs and a 9:1 compression ratio
  • Finished in Rosso Maserati over Nero with Silver Campagnolo alloys

1947 Alvis TA14 Barnard Woodie

Lot # 540 (Sale Order: 40 of 89)

When finished, this bespoke TA14-based Woodie will make an ideal period vehicle for picnics at the Goodwood Revival and similar events.

  • In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.
  • The Alvis TA14 was a direct descendant of the 12/70 introduced in 1938, which was a George Lanchester design and was good for 80mph despite its weight. Quality was still paramount in the new TA14 with its new 4-cylinder OHV engine of 1892cc.
  • The car offered here carries unusual 'woodie' coachwork, which requires finishing and re-commissioning. We understand that the rear wings have been repainted but are off the car and that there are other parts with the car which will assist in the restoration. The buyer will be rewarded with a very good and unusual 'woody estate' which will give years of service
  • Ex-Bristol Collection and joined the Warwickshire Collection in March 2013
  • Quote from Richard Ford "I am currently restoring a 1948 Alvis TA 14 Shooting Brake or Woodie. According to Red Triangle's records, (they purchased the assets of Alvis cars when they went bust in the sixties), Barnards produced five examples of my vehicle at that time, building a wooden ash frame and seating and fitting it to an Alvis engine/chassis combination. Much like building a passenger coach but smaller. Two examples survive and the restoration is fascinating and challenging for an amateur carpenter/mechanic."

1969 Morris 1300 GT (ADO16)

Lot # 545 (Sale Order: 45 of 89)

A vinyl roof, matt black grille, rev counter, anti-roll bar, lowered suspension, sports wheels and 'go faster' stripes, everything you could possibly want in a small sports saloon in 1969.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • At the London Motor Show in October 1969 the manufacturers introduced the Austin/Morris 1300 GT. The Morris cars were assembled at Cowley, the Austins at Longbridge (BMC!)
  • It featured the same 1275cc twin-carburetter engine as the MG 1300, but with a black full-width grille, a black vinyl roof and a thick black metal strip along the swage line. This was BMC's answer to the Ford Escort GT and its Vauxhall counterpart
  • The ride height on the Austin / Morris 1300 GT was fractionally lowered through the reduction of the Hydrolastic fluid pressure from 225 to 205 psi
  • This example is finished in Glacier White with a black vinyl roof, black Ambla trim and black carpets
  • Accompanied by a raft of MOTs and bills through 80s/90s and later

1949 Bentley MkVI two-door Coupe with "New Look" bodywork by James Young

Lot # 548 (Sale Order: 48 of 89)

One of only three, this is an important car in Bentley's history.

  • Respected coachbuilders, James Young Ltd of Bromley, had their first post-war stand at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1948
  • They chose to unveil a MkVI Bentley with a radical new shape which they called the 'New Look'
  • Obviously influenced by post-war American saloons with its fully enveloped wings, clean lines and slim pillars, this design (Number C10M) was dramatically different from the staunchly traditional Standard Saloon
  • The design was quite polarising at the time and only three were actually ordered, however, with the benefit of hindsight, James Young's 'New Look' C10M has influenced the design of luxury cars ever since
  • The Motor Show car sold last year in Arizona for $224,000 and this car (B182EY) may be the only survivor of the three that were ordered

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Arwel Richards on 07434 960 868 / arwel@silverstoneauctions.com to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

1953 Morris Oxford MO Saloon

Lot # 549 (Sale Order: 49 of 89)

'MO Series' four-door that looks like a straightforward project.

  • In need of some TLC

1953 Sunbeam Alpine Special

Lot # 550 (Sale Order: 50 of 89)

A superbly restored 'Special' delightfully presented in Sapphire Blue with an 'Extra-light Fawn' leather interior.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • The 1953-55 Sunbeam Alpine was an elegant two-seat open roadster based on the Sunbeam-Talbot 90 platform
  • The 'Alpine' name was adopted following the Talbot 90 Team's success in the Alpine Rally in late 1952
  • Only 93 examples of the 'Alpine Special' were built in total, 43 in RHD, and we believe that only 33 survive
  • The Special's engine was developed by ERA and produced 97.5bhp/142lb.ft courtesy of a modified cylinder head, larger inlet valves, raised compression ratio, gas-flowed manifolds and a twin-choke Solex 40 PII carburettor
  • A Sapphire Blue Alpine featured prominently in the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock film "To Catch a Thief" starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly
  • After many years in storage, this particular car was comprehensively restored around 10 years ago by marque specialist, Ken Sparkes. It was superbly finished in Sapphire Blue and 'Extra-light Fawn' leather emulating the iconic Grace Kelly car
  • It was cossetted as a part of a private collection for a few years and more recently has been on display at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon
  • Although not warranted, we believe the indicated mileage of 21 has been the total covered since the Ken Sparkes restoration

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Richard Greenhalgh on 07948 152 921 / richard@classiccarauctions.co.uk to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.
