Antique Probably Albanian Miquelet Pistol

Antique Probably Albanian Miquelet Pistol, with brass fullstock, NVSN, approx. .65 cal., 12.25'' tapered round-to-octagonal at breech iron barrel is unmarked; iron ''Pati...morella'' or Spanish style lock with distinctive outside mainspring and flint cock with exposed sears; solid brass fullstock is elaborately if somewhat crudely chased in relief scrolls and floral patterns, has a lemon-shaped butt with raised skull cracker, and encloses the front 5'' of the barrel; separate loop triggerguard is decorated en suite; early-style trigger with curved tail. The lock appears to be in its original Miquelet form, with unbushed touchhole. Condition is very good for the age and type. Iron surfaces have a mostly smooth gunmetal gray-brown tone (the barrel may have been etched originally, but difficult to state positively); brass shows mostly crisp designs, light wear and an aged patina. Action is very stiff and does not seem to reach cocked position; smoothbore appears relatively clean. Est.: $750-$1,000. (Antique)

Indonesian-Dutch Bronze Signal Cannon, recovered from a shipwreck, with dark green patina overall. Decorated with cast raised floral designs and decorative bands at breec...moreh and muzzle. Flared leaf dart type muzzle. Notch type front sight with ears at rear near touch hole. Bore is approx. 1.250''; overall approx. 40.5''. Has a hole provision in rear for wooden aiming rod (not present). Bronze ''Y''-type swiveling barrel cradle with cast in spike for use on the railing of a ship. Breach end is approx. 3.75'' in dia. Flared decorated muzzle is approx. 3-7/8'' in dia. Ca. 19th Century. Condition is very good overall. Bore appears to be smooth, with no rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800.

Hulkes Gleanings'' on circumference at muzzle, with border engraving at rear; boxlock brass frame has a unique engraved and elevated ''waterproof'' pan, a frizzen with an equally unique adjustable-tension spring, a sliding safety that locks the frizzen in the down/closed position, and a gracefully-formed reinforced flint cock; frame is marked ''Palmer Rochester'' at front with sunken proof marks at right side, is floral engraved with panel scenes of a panoply of martial flags, drums (or mortars) and shields on left and right sides, and has a folding trigger that automatically drops down when the pistol is cocked; one-piece varnished and checkered European hardwood ''bag-style'' grips. Mfg'd ca 1800-1830. Condition is very good. Metal surfaces retain no original finishes, but are smooth and clean with light toning to the brass, a dark patina to the iron, and clear engraving and markings. Mfg'd ca. 1830s-50s. Condition is near excellent. Barrels retain approx. 96% deep original blue, triggers show bright fire-blue, case hardened frames are smooth gunmetal with clear engraving and markings. Grips are smooth with only slight handling marks and retain approx. 90% original varnish. Antique English Brass-Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss, by Brunn of London, NVSN, approx. .70 cal., 14.5'' round-to-octagonal brass barrel bells to 1.75'' at its cannon-turne...mored muzzle, has two cannon-turned rings at round-octagon juncture, finely engraved breech and top tang, and marked ''London'' on top flat; beveled steel lockplate with small pointed rear teat is finely border engraved and marked ''Brunn'' under matching reinforced cock and pan; brass furniture includes loop triggerguard with lovely engraved pineapple front tang finial and elongated rear tang, engraved buttplate, two circular screw escutcheons opposite the lock, and two fancy fluted ferrules retaining the horn-tipped hardwood ramrod; varnished English walnut fullstock has raised aprons about both sides of the lock. Mfg'd ca. 1780-1820. This arm appears to be in original flintlock configuration, having unbushed touchhole and original parts; many of the screw heads are sunburst-engraved. Condition is fine. Brass shows an overall smooth aged tone; iron parts are clean gunmetal gray. Stock is solid and smooth showing only handling marks (has 6 ''kill'' notches carved at lower butt), good edges, nice grain and color, and perhaps an added coat of finish. Markings are sharp. This is a quality piece, complete and original. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)

Condition is very good. Brass parts have a light age-patina, lock parts are gunmetal gray, the bayonet is gunmetal gray with light peppering, markings are clear. Stock is sound with general marks from use and age, minor losses, and a glued repair where broken through approx. 4'' behind muzzle. Action is smooth; smoothbore looks clean. The gun appears to be in original flintlock configuration, with unbushed touchhole and original parts, and would have been a formidable weapon in a close-order confrontation. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. Mfg'd ca. 1830s-40s. Measures 7.5'' overall. Condition is very good. Steel surfaces retain no original finish but are a smooth gunmetal color; German silver is clean; markings and engraving are sharp. Stock is solid and smooth with sharp checkering and much original varnish. Ramrod is missing. Action is strong and crisp; smoothbore is bright having scattered light erosion. Mfg'd ca. 1856-66. Measures 5.5'' overall. Condition is near fine. Barrel retains little of the original simulated Damascus but is a smooth overall gunmetal-brown color; German silver is clean and bright; markings and engraving are sharp. Engraved screw heads; original button-tipped iron ramrods and single barrel keys. Mfg'd mid-19th century. Condition is very good. Barrels retain approx. 60% early-style light, bright blue with scattered discoloration/erosion that should be carefully cleaned; lockplates retain 40% smooth matching blue, the balance of the metal shows a gunmetal gray-brown patina. Mfg'd ca. 1890-1912. Condition is near excellent: Barrel and frame retain 90+% smooth original deep blue, with just light roughness to right frame and sharp edges and markings; squeezer bar retains moderate case colors with scattered light discoloration; grip pad of blended black-and-pink hard rubber retains sharp checkering with a three-quarter inch chip out at top left. Metal surfaces appear untouched having minor use marks and an overall light age patina as originally finished ''in the white''; markings are sharp, and all parts appear original. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s. Condition is very good. Metal surfaces retain no original finish but are a dark gunmetal color with scattered light discoloration. Stocks show age/use marks but are sound with sharp checkering and much original finish. Actions are crisp and tight; smoothbores are clean showing moderate etching. The 11''x14.5'' varnished mahogany case is lined in a fine teal baize cloth and partitioned in the English style for the pistols, a copper and brass lozenge-shaped powder flask, twin ebony and walnut brass-tipped ramrods, wood-handled turnscrew, two percussion cap tins, two covered sections with ivory knobs containing linen patches, and a number of cast lead balls, all in very good condition. Mfg'd in approx. 1874. Condition is excellent. Barrel has toned somewhat but retains approx. 90% overall thinning blue. Case hardened frame and back lock have toned and silvered, as has lever, but colors are visible. Lifting block extension retains nearly all of its bright niter blue. Stock with light to just moderate impressions to both sides of cheekpiece; checking is extremely well defined and remains sharp over the last 125 years. Action is good, bore is fine. Pre-WWI German Schuetzen Rifle, #420, 8.15x46R cal., 30'' fluted rust blue barrel with flat sighting plain inlaid ''Victor Trulzsch in Nurnberg''; border engraved case ha...morerdened falling block frame, double set triggers, floral carved checkered cheekpiece walnut stock and forend, with protected ear pinned front sight and adjustable eyepiece removable Schuetzen rear sight. Ca.1910. Condition is about fine. Barrel retains approx. 85% thinning rust-type blue. Platina details have lightly tarnished. Edges to rear portion of sighting plain with minor dings to edges. Case colored receiver retains approx. 60% silvering and toning hues. Stock is fine with possibly an additional coat of varnish, small dings, and excellent detail to carving and checks. Condition is very good+. Metal surfaces retain no original finish but an overall bright gunmetal color with sharp edges, engraving and markings. Exceptional Mexican War Era U.S. Model 1836 Single-Shot Flintlock Martial Pistol, by Robert Johnson of Middletown, CT, NVSN, .54 cal., 8.5'' round barrel with brass blade...more front and dished-oval rear sights, is marked ''US./JH/P'' and a tiny ''B'' at breech, with a captive stirrup-style button-tip steel ramrod; beveled lockplate is marked ''US./R. Johnson/Middn Conn/1842'' below the flint cock and curved brass pan; iron furniture includes a single barrel band having a long serpentine ''sideplate'', two-piece trigger guard with long lower tang extending to the circular buttcap whose backstrap extends to the top barrel tang; oil-stained one-piece walnut stock. Mfg'd 1842, with case hardened lockplate, hammer and frizzen, blued frizzen spring and trigger, and the balance of the metal finished bright. Condition is near excellent. Iron surfaces retain their original ''in-the-bright'' finish, with sharp edges and markings, the trigger and frizzen spring retain much original blue, the case hardened parts show a clean silvered tone. Stock is smooth and solid with original ''feathering'' and pleasing grain and color, and sharp left-side Army inspectors' markings of ''W.A.T'' (William A. Thornton) and ''JCB'' (Joseph C. Bragg) impressed within oval cartouches. Action is smooth and crisp; smoothbore is bright with scattered light etching; the pistol appears to be in original flintlock configuration with unbushed touchhole and correct parts. Ames/Springfield/Mass.'' below the hammer, and ''USN/1845'' vertically at rear; brass furniture includes a single pin-retained barrel band, one-piece trigger guard, and inset circular buttcap; oil-stained one-piece walnut fullstock. Mfg'd 1845, with browned barrel and the balance of the metal finished bright. Condition is very good+. Barrel retains no original finish, but a smooth brownish-gunmetal gray color with sharp markings; brass parts are clean with light age toning. Stock is smooth and solid with pleasing grain and color, lacks the left-side inspector's marking but has a faint ''60'' painted there and a later thin coat of varnish.
