The Moss 722 chronograph celebrates the amazing Moss/Jenkinson Mille Miglia victory on May 1st 1955.

Lot # 328 (Sale Order: 28 of 131)

Boxed and unworn watch number 1 of 272 signed by Stirling Moss.

The Moss 722 chronograph celebrates the amazing Moss/Jenkinson Mille Miglia victory on May 1st 1955. With Denis Jenkinson navigating with 'the bog roll' and Stirling Moss at the wheel the pair averaged just under 100mph for ten+ hours on Italian public roads. This was without doubt one of Stirling's most memorable drives piloting the awesome Mercedes 300SLR through the adrenalin packed 1000 km to victory in record time. A world wide edition of just 722 Chronographs was created and each dial was hand signed by Stirling Moss.

The watch is in an original presentation display box which is also signed and numbered by Sir Stirling Moss. Finished in polished German stainless steel each watch comes with 3 Austrian high-quality leather straps complete with strap change tool. The movement is the renowned Swiss Valjoux ETA 7750 Chronograph movement with a quick change calendar, and is water resistant to 5atm. The face glass is Italian Sapphire.

The rear case is Italian sapphire glass allowing a view of the movement and contained within is a small part of Stirling's last ever race suit.

Stirling Moss. Last ever race used and retirement suit Le Mans 2011

Lot # 332 (Sale Order: 32 of 131)

In the late 1950s, Stirling Moss was involved in designing a race suit for Dunlop and continued over many years to favour these lightweight, light blue suits. He had them tailor-made in Bangkok, a favourite place of Stirling's. He once stated to our vendor that the "Quality was better and more importantly they are cheaper" which was typical of the prudent businessman he was.

This is the actual racing suit which Stirling wore at Le Mans in 2011 whilst racing his newly restored Porsche. After qualifying, Stirling arrived in the pits, exited the car and announced his retirement from racing to Radio Le Mans after an incredible 60 years. Our vendor was present with him as he had known Stirling would retire at Le Mans and travelled down with him.

A book with images of Stirling wearing this actual race suit whilst racing and retiring that day will accompany the item which is, complete with a woven BRDC badge and sponsors labels.

Gifted to our vendor on return to London at Stirling's Mayfair home.

Stirling's personal 2011 Le Mans watch

Lot # 333 (Sale Order: 33 of 131)

September 19th 2009 saw Stirling Moss celebrate his 80th birthday whilst driving at the Goodwood Revival. Only 80 watches have been produced worldwide with a White Face and a further 80 pieces with a Black Face. The dial is personally hand-signed by Stirling.

Each watch is engraved to the rear with its number and Stirling's birth date and this watch is fittingly No.7. This was Stirling's personal watch worn by him in his last race and on the day of his retirement at Le Mans in 2011. He stepped out of his Porsche in the pit lane and announced his retirement to Radio Le Mans after being frightened by a more powerful car passing him on the Mulsanne straight. He stated, " I have been scared before but never frightened....so it's time to stop".

In a superb presentation display box which is also hand-signed and numbered. Finished in polished German stainless steel each watch comes with 3 Austrian high-quality leather straps. The movement is the renowned Swiss Valjoux ETA 7750 Chronograph movement with a quick change calendar and is water-resistant to 5atm. The face glass is Italian Sapphire and the rear case is Italian Sapphire glass allowing a view of the movement and contained within is a small section of Stirling's last ever race suit.

Stirling Moss victory trophy Silverstone 1951

Lot # 334 (Sale Order: 34 of 131)

In the early 1970s, Stirling Moss parted with most of his trophies to an American collector, only keeping a few of his original ones for himself. Our vendor discovered this trophy in the USA at Pebble Beach with a trophy specialist in 2010. It was for his win in his Jaguar XK 120 in the 1951 Daily Express Tourist Trophy at Silverstone. Recognising it as a rare opportunity, he brought the trophy home... to this day he has not seen a Stirling Moss trophy offered for sale. On his return, he showed the trophy to Stirling who remarked: "It was an important victory in my early career".

Stirling hand-signed the trophy and a photo of him signing it is included as is a race programme from that day. This is a very rare opportunity to own a signed, race-winning trophy owned by one of the sports true legends.

The solid gold twin bar watch band worn by Stirling Moss for 38 years!

Lot # 335 (Sale Order: 35 of 131)

During his early career, Stirling became tired of replacing leather watch straps regularly soiled by the oil coming back when driving front-engined cars. He set about designing a watch band that he could not only inter-change different watches with but also designed to easily clean after every race. An adjustable clasp was also incorporated in the design to accommodate different sized watches.

The solid Gold watch band offered here is the actual watch band he designed and was made by his chosen jeweller Schindler of London in 1954. It is engraved to the adjustment clasp S.M.

Stirling wore this watch band in over 200 races and until 1992 when his sponsorship began with Chopard who replicated heavier bands for him to accommodate the larger and heavier watches they were producing at the time.

Three images come to mind of Stirling Moss. The plain white helmet, the no.7 on his car and the unusual twin bar watch band. Constantly worn by Stirling for 38 years the band shared many special moments in the globetrotting driver's adventures. These include 3 marriage ceremonies, 3 victories in the Monaco Grand Prix, and victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia driving the Mercedes no 722. Stirling was also wearing the watch band when he had his fateful accident at Goodwood in 1962 at Goodwood.

This truly unique and historic item was gifted to the vendor in 1996. Stirling inter-changed many watches over the years and the watch fitted when passing it to the vendor is a 1956 Gold Jaeger LeCoultre alarm watch in good working order. Stirling remarked to the vendor, "It came in handy if I was jet-lagged or I fancied a nap in between races. Problem was I couldn't hear it because of all the noise of the other cars, but it's a bloody nice watch".

This unique item must surely be one of the most historic and personal items ever to be offered by anyone involved in Gtand Prix racing....without doubt, it could tell some truly amazing stories.

A collection of over 20 photos of Stirling wearing the watch over three decades accompanies this item.

Stirling Moss period Patey race helmet worn for 49 years!

Lot # 337 (Sale Order: 37 of 131)

Stirling Moss wore only four helmets during his career as a professional racing driver. Two were manufactured by Herbert Johnson Ltd. and two helmets were built for him by Patey Helmets. This particular helmet is circa 1958 and was worn by Stirling Moss both in period and occasionally up until 2007.... an incredible 49 years!

Used by Stirling after his career-ending crash at Goodwood at demonstrations, for racing at Monaco 2001 (scrutineers sticker attached) and finally at Goodwood in 2007 (scrutineers sticker attached). Clearly, the helmet is heavily worn with age-related marks and some staining to the lining is clear to see. Hand-signed by Stirling to the front side.

Gifted to the vendor in 2008. It is the last period helmet owned by Stirling as the other three were sold or gifted many years ago.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a genuine period race helmet owned by the British racing legend for 49 years!
