***Auction Highlight*** 1929 $20 National Currency Type 1 Low Serial # 'Farmers National Bank & Tru

Lot # 741 (Sale Order: 576 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1929 $20 National Currency Type 1 Low Serial # 'Farmers National Bank & Trust Co. Of Coaldale, PA' Grades vf++. Series of 1929 national ba...morenk notes come in two varieties. Collectors call these type 1 and type 2 varieties. Type 1 1929 $20 national bank notes have a serial number that ends with the letter A. Type 2 1929 $20 national bank notes have a serial number that ends with a number. The charter number is also printed in brown ink twice on type 2 1929 $20 bills. Backed by bonds deposited with the Federal Government, this kind of money says “National Currency” at the top center of the note. These notes were issued by banks who received a Charter from the United States government allowing them to issue money. The Government Printing Office printed these notes with the same design except for the name of the banks, signatures of the bank officers and the Charter number. National Currency notes were made from 1863 to 1929. These notes were a way of creating confidence in an always shaky banking system. Member banks were required to deposit bonds with the government. The bank could then issue currency equal to 90% of the amount of the bonds. The financial panic of 1929 destroyed many of the National Banks and put an end to this system. There were more than 14,000 banks that issued National Currency and there are large numbers of avid collectors. The 1929 issue was the only “small size” issue, that is to distinguish from the “horse blanket” size notes of years previous to 1929.

***Auction Highlight*** 1881-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms68+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 742 (Sale Order: 577 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1881-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms68+ By SEGS. 1881-s Morgan Dollar ms68+ SEGS. Dazzling, fresh mint bloom captives the eye on this plus-gra...moreded MS68 example, making this the ideal type coin for the Morgan dollar collector. Preservation is virtually flawless, and neither side has definable strike softness. An essentially brilliant coin, save for a tinge of gold along portions of the outer peripheries. A stunning Morgan dollar. Tied for 2nd finest known. We have included another ms68+ for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIRE AUCTION* 1922 Grant w/Star Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 743 (Sale Order: 578 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1922 Grant w/Star Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEGS. This is One of the Keys to the Entire Silver Commemorative series. Less than 5%...more of the Grant Commemoratives were made with the Star Variety. The Grant Halves are Notoriously Difficult to Grade, partly because Raised Die Lines on the Obverse Look at First Glance like Hairlines or Scratches. Points to Check for Wear include Grant’s Cheek and the Hair Above His Ear. The Reverse’s Dense Design tends to Mask Imperfections and Wear, but Light Friction Often can be Detected in the Treetops. 1922 Grant w/Star Half Dollar ms67 SEGS. This is a simply beautiful example of one of the scarcer, more challenging issues in the classic commemorative series. Vibrantly lustrous with an exquisite satin texture, the surfaces display some pale silver iridescence. Boldly impressed throughout and virtually pristine. The Grant Memorial half dollars and gold dollars of 1922 were issued to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the Civil War hero and former president, Ulysses S. Grant. The basic designs of the two denominations are identical. Small quantities of both the half dollar and gold dollar incorporated a five-pointed star as part of the design in the right obverse field. This feature has no known significance and may have been included on some of the coins to create a distinct type that would require contemporary collectors to purchase multiple examples. Whatever its original purpose, if any, the star today serves to denote the scarcer half dollar and gold dollar variants of the Grant Memorial commemorative coins. Scarce in MS-65 and rare any finer, this exquisite Superb Gem ranks among the highest graded and is certainly among the finest known for the type. A delight to behold and destined for inclusion in a world-class collection of commemorative coins. Tied for 2nd Finest Known. We have included another Grant No star in ms67 for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1855-p TY 2 Gold Dollar $1 Graded ms64 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 744 (Sale Order: 579 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1855-p TY 2 Gold Dollar $1 Graded ms64 By SEGS. TA generally sharp example for the type, this attractive near-Gem also sports full mint lus...moreter and pretty golden-rose patina. The brief Type II gold dollar series of 1854 to 1856 is among the more conditionally challenging in U.S. coinage history. The only realistic type candidates in the finer Mint State grades are the 1854 and 1855, both of which issues are still scarce when viewed in the wider context of the numismatic market. This is an attractive piece in all regards that comes highly recommended for inclusion in a high quality collection. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1879 Three Dollar Gold $3 Graded ms63+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 750.5 (Sale Order: 586 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1879 Three Dollar Gold $3 Graded ms63+ By SEGS. The three dollar gold piece was never a popular issue and the Philadelphia Mint struck only...more token quantities of this denomination in 1879. Only 3,000 circulation strikes were produced in, all delivered on December 20, and many of these were subsequently destroyed after the close of the year. In lot 422 of the Chapman’s auction of 1915, the cataloger noted: "1879 Uncirculated. Mint lustre. Only 3,030 coined, and about 2,000 or more of these were melted at the mint." Chapman's mintage figures were fairly accurate with what we know today. When the denomination was discontinued in 1889, the three dollar coins suddenly became popular with collectors and contemporary numismatists began preserving nice examples for future generations. The present coin is a delightful Proof Like Example, with well-preserved yellow-gold surfaces that radiate satiny mint luster and have mirror like fields on both sides and show attractive orange highlights. The design elements are sharply detailed and eye appeal is quite strong. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin

Lot # 751 (Sale Order: 587 of 693)

1918 $1 National Currency Federal Reserve Bank of New York Fr-711 "Flying Eagle" Grades vf++. There are three different years found on series of 1918 one dollar b...moreills.  Despite also saying 1914 and 1913, these are referred to by collectors as 1918 federal reserve bank notes.  Collectors have given this note the nickname of the “Flying Eagle.”  The back of the note shows why the bill received its nickname. Keep in mind that series of 1918 one dollar federal reserve bank notes were issued for 12 different banks. The artwork will all be the same though.  George Washington is on the left hand side of the bill.  There is a blue seal on the right hand side of the bill and the serial numbers are in blue ink. Signatures Teehee & Burke for the Treasury. Hendricks & Strong for New York. In total there are 39 different signature combinations for 1918 one dollar federal reserve notes

1929 $100 National Currency Type 1 Low Serial # 'Security First National Bank Of Los Angeles, CA' Grades vf++. The front depicts Benjamin Franklin and the reverse ...morehas Independence Hall. National Currency, issued 1915-34, are banknotes that are legal tender in the United States, together with United States Notes, silver certificates, Gold Certificates, National Bank Notes and Federal Reserve Notes. They had the same value as other kinds of notes of similar face value. Federal Reserve Bank Notes differ from Federal Reserve Notes in that they are backed by one of the twelve Federal Reserve Banks, rather than by all collectively. They were backed in a similar way to National Bank Notes, using U.S. bonds, but issued by Federal Reserve banks instead of by chartered National banks.

***Auction Highlight*** 1808/7 R-4+ Gold Capped Bust Half Eagle $5 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider+ By US

Lot # 758 (Sale Order: 594 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1808/7 R-4+ Gold Capped Bust Half Eagle $5 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider+ By USCG. Up for Auction is an Amazing and Rare Overdate. The 1808/7...more Capped Bust Half Eagle. R4+ Die State b/c Bright yellow gold surfaces with ample satiny luster remaining. This is an uncommonly well struck example for an early half eagle, the definition bold to sharp throughout the design. A prominent bisecting die crack over the upper obverse is as struck (it is diagnostic of obverse die state b as defined by John W. Dannreuther, 2006), and for a BU Capped Bust Right five it is remarkable that there are no sizeable or otherwise outwardly distracting abrasions. This is highly desirable example of this elusive overdate issue. Given the tiny number seen at this grade level or finer, any serious numismatist would do well to secure this condition rarity as soon as possible--in this case when the hammer falls with your winning bid! A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
