*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIRE AUCTION* PCGS 1864-s Gold Liberty Eagle $10 Graded xf details By PCGS (fc)

Lot # 765 (Sale Order: 601 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** PCGS 1864-s Gold Liberty Eagle $10 Graded xf details By PCGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE AUCTION - Up for Auction is a Numismatic rarity, an 1...more864-s $10 Gold Liberty. Per PCGS only 24 Survive in all grades and none in mint state. I have included another xf45 for your comparison. The 1864-S is the rarest eagle from San Francisco and it is clearly the second rarest Liberty Head eagle, trailing only the 1875. For the San Francisco mint no other year claims a smaller mintage than 1864, when just 2,500 examples were struck. There are an estimated 20-25 pieces known, and at least half of these grade lower than XF40 with some survivors as low as VG8. In choice, original Extremely Fine there are as few as a half dozen coins known, and to this number we can add another four or five in About Uncirculated. The finest is a PCGS-certified AU55+ that brought $219,004 (as an NGC AU55) in the Chicago Signature (Heritage, 10/2018), lot 3179. No pieces are known in mint condition. This piece has long been held in a private collection and has not seen the public auction ever. Between 2000 to 2014, this issue was virtually unavailable in any grade. It turns out that collector Donald Bentley was quietly hoarding 1864-S eagles (and other rare issues as well) and when his collection came onto the market in early 2014, his estate contained four examples. Prices immediately skyrocketed for this issue and the formerly grossly undervalued 1864-S eagle became a six-figure coin in Extremely Fine and finer. While this date is no longer "cheap," it still seems reasonable given the popularity of the Liberty Head eagle series and the rarity of this issue. Most of the stars show partial radial line detail, and Liberty's portrait is strong for the grade. Incompleteness is a touch more apparent on the eagle's neck and the olive leaves, but the legends on that side are bold. Attractive khaki-gold surfaces show crusty accents within the protected regions. We would encourage anyone with an 1864-S ten on their wish list to seriously consider the present lot, as these coins rarely make public appearances. I have included 2 other xf for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIRE YEAR* 1792 Half Disme Bust Half Dime 1/2 10c Graded f12 By SEGS

Lot # 765.5 (Sale Order: 602 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1792 Half Disme Bust Half Dime 1/2 10c Graded f12 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR - The First Coin Minted by The United States. 1792 H10c Half Dism...moree, Judd-7, f12 SEGS. Although the 1792 half disme has traditionally been collected with the pattern series, most present-day numismatists consider the issue to be the first U.S. coin struck for circulation. Authority for this view comes from an unimpeachable source, President George Washington himself. In his November 1792 address to Congress, Washington remarked, "There has also been a small beginning in the coinage of half dimes”. The number of coins produced also argues strongly for the business-strike nature of this premier U.S. Mint product, as somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 pieces were originally struck. Later accounts suggest the coins were distributed by Washington himself, either through presentation to European dignitaries or as gifts to friends. The majority of examples seen today are worn, suggesting that the issue circulated extensively at, or near, the time of issue. The Mint facilities were not ready to begin coinage operations in the summer of 1792, and much of its equipment was stored in the cellar of Philadelphia saw maker John Harper. It was here that the half dismes were struck, on July 12, 1792 according to Thomas Jefferson's household account book. From this modest beginning, the 1792 half disme has become one of the most important and valuable issues in the U.S. coinage series. The surviving population is estimated as 250-400 pieces in all grades. It is worth adding that the the recent publication of Birth of a Nation's Coinage by Smith, Oroz, and Augsburg has done much to separate fact from fiction as it pertains to the production of the 1792 coinage. Certain clarifications include the fact that Thomas Jefferson likely delivered Spanish colonial silver coins for striking the half dismes rather than the legend that George Washington himself brought Martha Washington’s household Silver to have the first coins minted. That being said…we prefer the legend. The present coin is well-centered on the obverse, with date partially worn off but the legend easily legible. The portrait is complete in outline and retains some interior detail. The reverse is not quite as sharp, but the surfaces of both sides show only minor abrasions with pleasing silver-gray and golden-brown patina. We have included 2 other f12 examples for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIRE AUCTION* 1886-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms64+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 766 (Sale Order: 603 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1886-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms64+ By SEGS. Up For Auction is a 1886-o Morgan Dollar ms64+ SEGS. Melting under the Pittman Act, and perha...moreps other unknown factors, make the 1886-O conditionally rare. By New Orleans standards, the mintage was large -- more than 10.7 million pieces were struck, yet no appreciable Mint sewn bags have materialized during the past 60 to 70 years. In Gem or finer conditions, no other Morgan dollar issue is rarer. This lustrous and frosted example is a high-end near-Gem. A faint touch of gold at the margins surrounds brilliant-silver surfaces, while a sharp strike defines the motifs. There are no heavy marks as often encountered on an 1886-O -- just a few faint abrasions, none of individual concern. Tied for 3rd finest known. We have included an ms65 for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

Lot # 768 (Sale Order: 604 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1843 N-14 R-6 Braided Hair Large Cent 1c Graded pr63 bn By SEGS. Up for auction is a 1843 Braided Hair Large Cent N-14 PR63 Brown SEGS. Tin...morey original Mintage of 15 Coins. Rarity 6, A lovely Gem proof example of the original variety, actually struck in 1843 and identified by large berries in the wreath. Approximately 12 examples of this variety are known today. This sharply struck specimen has fully reflective fields and light cameo contrast. Light brown surfaces are accented by gold and tan. Highly desirable and attractive. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1901-p Mint Error vam 15 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Choice Unc By USCG (fc)

Lot # 771 (Sale Order: 607 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1901-p Mint Error Vam 15 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Choice Unc By USCG. Up for auction is an incredible 1901-p Morgan Dollar. Clean Surfac...morees for the Grade, A Major Rarity This Fine. The 1901 Morgan dollar is an elite condition rarity. Despite a mintage in excess of 6.9 million coins, the date is scarce in Mint State, rapidly decreasing in availability at each ascending grade level. It is believed that most of the coins not released into circulation at the time of issue were destroyed after 1918 under the terms of the Pittman Act. For most collectors, the finest 1901 Morgan dollars collectible are in MS64. The last two PCGS-graded pieces that were auctioned in this grade realized $52,800 and $55,200, respectively. Gems are almost unheard of today, even though a handful are reported by the grading services. The last to sell at auction was an NGC coin in Bowers and Merina's November 2009 Baltimore auction, which realized more than $155,000. Clearly, the rarity of the 1901 Morgan dollar in high grade is not at all overstated. This near-Gem is blast white with superb satin luster. The strike is a trifle soft on the eagle's breast feathers but is bold elsewhere. To the unaided eye, the coin appears a grade point finer, but a loupe reveals a few faint marks that affirm the MS64 designation. Additionally this incredible coin is not only a conditional rarity but it is both the Vam 15, a R-5 variety, and a mint error, in that it is struck slightly off center on the obverse. WOW. We look forward to this coin's sale with great anticipation. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1892-cc Morgan Dollar $1 Graded GEM Unc DMPL By USCG (fc)

Lot # 777 (Sale Order: 613 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1892-cc Morgan Dollar $1 Graded GEM Unc DMPL By USCG. Up for Auction is far and away the finest 1892-cc We have Ever had the privilege to b...morering to auction. This well struck Gem is White and frosty on the devices which contrast strongly with the highly reflective fields. In addition to these desirable attributes, the present piece has splendidly smooth fields and devices. The connoisseur of quality is unlikely to obtain a finer DMPL of this popular issue. Among the scarcer Carson City Morgan Dollars, the 1892-CC is collectible in regular finish MS62 through MS64 grades, but proof likes are elusive, and Deep Mirror Proof likes are practically unheard of at the MS65 level. PCGS and NGC combined have only certified 3 pieces as MS65 Deep Mirror Proof like, with none finer. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. If they did, and succeeded, they could use the millions of dollars in currency the seized to buy war material. To thwart this, these Silver Certificates were sent to North Africa. ***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 In Halves "Dunes" Vegas 1929 & 'p' Franklin Ends (fc

Lot # 781 (Sale Order: 617 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 In Halves "Dunes" Vegas 1929 & 'p' Franklin Ends. Up for Auction is a Consignment I have been talking about for the...more last few months, and I have finally secured. I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. I have put 3 in each of the Independence auctions. We estimate the rolls to be worth $700-$900 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

***Auction Highlight*** 1911-d Gold Indian Half Eagle $5 Graded BU+ By USCG (fc)

Lot # 782 (Sale Order: 618 of 693)

***Auction Highlight*** 1911-d Gold Indian Half Eagle $5 Graded BU+ By USCG. This is a most impressive and thoroughly appealing Mint State survivor of this key dat...moree Indian half eagle. Vividly toned in handsome orange-khaki patina, the surfaces are suitably lustrous for the assigned grade. The texture is satiny and relatively smooth overall to allow one to focus on the bold striking detail. While this issue is not the lowest mintage entry of its type (that distinction goes to the 1909-O), the 1911-D is still a very scarce coin by 20th century gold standards with only 72,500 pieces produced. It is also one of the most challenging Indian fives to find in high grade. Collector demand has always been strong for Mint State survivors, with any offering thereof eagerly snapped up by specialists assembling high quality sets. Much of the original mintage was melted during the 1930s, further reducing the potential number of Uncirculated coins available to future generations of numismatists A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

2012-p Star Spangled Banner Modern Commem Dollar $1 Graded ms70, Perfection By USCG

Lot # 784 (Sale Order: 619 of 693)

2012-p Star Spangled Banner Modern Commem Dollar $1 Graded ms70, Perfection By USCG. This is the 2012-p Star Spangled Banner Uncirculated Modern Silver Dollar Comm...moreemorative. On September 7, 1814, Francis Scott Key visited the British fleet in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay to secure the release of his friend Dr. William Beans. Beans' release was secured, but he and Key were held by the British during the shelling of Fort McHenry, the principal fort defending Baltimore. On the morning of September 14, 1814, after the 25-hour British bombardment of Fort McHenry, Key peered through the clearing smoke to see a 42-foot by 30-foot American flag flying proudly over it. He was so inspired by the sight of the enormous flag that he wrote a verse he named "The Defense of Fort McHenry" to commemorate the occasion. On March 3, 1931, President Herbert Hoover signed a resolution passed by Congress that officially designated "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the U.S. National Anthem. This beautiful coin is graded ms70 Perfection by USCG.

Produced to the extent of just 4,643 pieces, and an extant population of fewer than 100 coins, this issue is particularly elusive in grades above EF. Although a few more AU examples exist for the 1842-D, Doug Winter (2003) opines that there are no true Mint State coins known for this issue. The example at hand has a wildly repunched date, much stronger than other 1842 examples we have examined. Tied for 2nd finest known.
