1928 $10 Gold Certificate, Signatures Woods/Mellon Grades vf++

Lot # 111 (Sale Order: 77 of 583)

1928 $10 Gold Certificate, Signatures Woods/Mellon Grades vf++. Alexander Hamilton is the central subject of this scarce $10 gold note, issued because of a change ...morein the size of United States currency beginning with all series dated 1928. This change in the size of America’s currency came about from a study that had determined that printing smaller currency would save the government a hefty amount of money in production cost. Because of the nature of gold certificates – each one accompanied the deposit of gold coins – they are somewhat scarce to begin with, as gold is far more scarce than silver. Add to that the decision to drop the gold standard by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933, thus making owning gold coin (or notes promising gold coin) illegal, and you end up with a series of notes that was printed, then recalled less than six years after their initial issue. Many of the notes were destroyed when turned in, and few of them survived. Fortunately for collectors, the restriction for owning gold certificates as collectibles was repealed by Treasury Secretary C. Douglas Dillon in 1964, but the damage had been done to the stockpiles of said notes. Not many remain of the millions that had originally been issued prior to the depression.

*HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT* 1885-o TOP POP! Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67 PL By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 113 (Sale Order: 78 of 583)

***Auction Highlight*** 1885-o TOP POP! Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67 PL By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT - During the early 1960s, countless bags of 1885-O Morgan d...moreollars were released from the Treasury, and today, Mint State examples are plentiful, being among the most common of all Morgan silver dollar issues. However, most are at the lower levels of Mint State, and nearly all fall short of the Gem grade level. Few of those coins that were released had nicely contrasting proof like surfaces. The survival of such coins was purely a matter of chance. Now, 120 years after these coins were struck, this example is the single finest dollar of the issue with Proof Like surfaces and great cameos. The surfaces are fully brilliant with silvery-white color and no trace of toning. The fields are nicely mirrored, and the devices have fully frosty luster. A Superb Gem Plus of amazing quality, the ultimate '85-O PL Morgan dollar, Tied for Finest known in PL. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

*HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT* 1879-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms66 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 121 (Sale Order: 81 of 583)

***Auction Highlight*** 1879-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms66 By SEGS. Highlight of the Night - A brilliant and beautiful example with bountiful mint luster and bold...more to sharp striking detail. Production of the 1879-O marked the reopening of the New Orleans Mint following the Civil War. With a mintage of 2,887,000 examples, this issue is readily available overall thanks to the storage and eventual release of thousands of Mint State coins. According to Q. David Bowers in his 1993 silver dollar encyclopedia, the largest releases came in 1957 (five to ten bags) and during the early 1960s (multiple 1,000-coin bags). As with many Morgan dollars, the 1879-O is rare in the finest Mint State grades, which for this issue means MS-66 and higher. One of the most impressive examples of this New Orleans Mint Morgan dollar that we have offered in recent sales, this coin is sure to appeal to discerning bidders. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

Lot # 125 (Sale Order: 84 of 583)

***Auction Highlight*** 1886-o vam 19 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select Unc By USCG. Melting under the Pittman Act, and perhaps other unknown factors, make the 188...more6-O conditionally rare. By New Orleans standards, the mintage was large -- more than 10.7 million pieces were struck, yet no appreciable Mint sewn bags have materialized during the past 60 to 70 years. In Gem or finer conditions, no other Morgan dollar issue is rarer, based on the combined certified populations at PCGS and NGC. This untoned, frosty white Mint State example of this well known condition rarity is sure to please.

Nick...morenamed the "Woodchopper," the Series of 1907 $5 legal tender bill represents the last of the large size (or "horse-blanket" size) notes every issued in the United States. Bold red color defines the front of the coveted "Woodchopper" bill, across a Roman numeral "V," the treasury seal and the serial number. Then, what gives this $5 red treasury seal bill its namesake is a central portrait of a man with an axe, his dog, wife and child. The front also features a portrait of Andrew Jackson, which would later grace the $20 bill. Then, on the reverse side of this Andrew Jackson $5 bill is a central image design flanked by two ovals

***Auction Highlight*** 1891-s vam 5B I2 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms66+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 129 (Sale Order: 88 of 583)

***Auction Highlight*** 1891-s vam 5B I2 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms66+ By SEGS. Up for Auction is a captivating premium Gem is fully untoned with an intense fro...moresty to semi-proof like finish on both sides. The San Francisco Mint produced 5,296,000 silver dollars in 1891, a respectable total by the standards of the Morgan series, especially for an issue from the 1890s. Quantities of examples dribbled out of storage in the West Coast mint during the earliest decades of the 20th century, followed by a significant release in the early 1940s. Few coins emerged thereafter, and there is no record of the 1891-S being represented in quantity during the Treasury Department releases of 1962 to 1964. The estate of LaVere Redfield did contain at least 5,000 examples, the quality almost universally poor due to the coins displaying numerous bagmarks. Thanks to the distributions of the 1940s and the Redfield Hoard, the 1891-S is readily available in lower Mint State grades. Gems are elusive, the present example a true condition rarity that is sure to see spirited bidding at auction. I am including an ms66, and ms67 for your comparison. I think ours is equal to both coins! A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

1902 $10 National Currency Third Charter President McKinley The Public National Bank of New York, Ny

Lot # 138 (Sale Order: 97 of 583)

1902 $10 National Currency Third Charter President McKinley The Public National Bank of New York, Ny Grades xf. This note belongs to an important series of United...more States currency in that it is the last type note of National Bank Currency printed in the old larger size. At the beginning of the final charter of notes (1929) all the new notes are made in the new smaller size. This note also features the portrait of William McKinley 25th president of the United States, who had been shot and killed at the Pan-American Exposition just a few months before the first notes in this series were printed and released bearing his image. National bank notes are different from other nationally printed currency in that they are printed specifically for each individual chartered bank organization. This assisted greatly in creating a system of bank notes that were the same across the country. This aided in travelers knowing what they were spending and receiving in change, rather than the times when each bank and state printed their own currency with their own designs. The National Bank Note system was abandoned shortly after the changeover to smaller size notes in 1929, making the third charter notes the last truly used issue of this kind.

***Auction Highlight*** 1911-d Strong D Denver Gold Indian Quarter Eagle $2 1/2 Graded BU+ By USC

Lot # 140 (Sale Order: 99 of 583)

***Auction Highlight*** 1911-d Strong D Denver Gold Indian Quarter Eagle $2 1/2 Graded BU+ By USCG. This is one of the most appealing 1911-D quarter eagles that we...more have seen in this grade. The satiny honey-gold surfaces are not cleaned as are those of many other lower-grade Uncirculated pieces, and there are surprisingly few signs of contact for the grade. The strike is sharp, and the mintmark is bold. An outstanding Mint State coin that will fit in well with higher-grade examples of other dates in a date and mintmark set of Indian quarter eagles. The 1911-D is the key to the Indian quarter eagle series with strong demand in all grades. Typical examples are AU or low-level Mint State with an average certified grade of AU58 A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin
