Lot #88 of the 450 Masonic Tokens from The Walter O. Collection

Lot # 706 (Sale Order: 454 of 583)

Lot #88 of the 450 Masonic Tokens from The Walter O. Collection. We Recently received a very Large Collection of 450 Masonic Tokens and coins. This collection was ...moreone man’s hobby for over 40 years. He collected each and every one with care and attention to detail and variety. Some of them are amazing and incredibly rare and highly sought by collectors and Masons. Here is a Brief Overview : Masonic coins often raise many questions for those looking to better understand the significance of the coins themselves as well as the symbolism represented in their imagery. In fraternal culture as a whole, symbolism has always been a significant part of these organizations’ identity, especially in Freemasonry, as Masonic coins are rich with symbolism, reflecting different events and characteristics of Freemasonry that give them the priceless value they hold. There are several varieties of masonic coins and tokens, and all tokens will fall into one of the following categories: a token celebrating a particular mason, lodge or event; an initiation token showing when a Brother was initiated, passed and raised; and finally the mark mason token (or penny) which signifies a pivotal part of a Mason’s initiation. Because symbolism was so important to fraternal culture, these small coins are rife with meaning. The most ubiquitous representation of the Masons was the letter "G" surrounded by a compass and square, representing the holy geometry of God. Some tokens feature the letters "H.T.W.S.S.T.K.S.," which means "Hiram the Widow's Son Sent to King Solomon," the biblical story that must be acted out to reach the third, or Master's Degree, in Freemasonry. Additionally, many contain either Apron and gloves: These symbols stand for living with a pure heart and to keep one’s hands clean. All-seeing eye: This symbol is designed to remind Masons that God and others always see their thoughts and actions. Ashlars: You may see rough and smooth ashlars on Masonic coins. They are to remind Masons of the contrast between man’s natural state and perfection and the Level: This symbol found on some Masonic coins reminds Masons that everyone is equal before God. We have broken the set up into groups of 5 Tokens in each lot. We have put 5 Lots per night over the 18 Nights of the Spring Auctions.

*Highlight Of Entire Auction* 1901-p Vam 20 R5 WOW! Morgan $1 Graded GEM Unc By USCG (fc)

Lot # 724 (Sale Order: 465 of 583)

***Auction Highlight*** 1901-p Vam 20 R-5 WOW! Morgan Dollar $1 Graded GEM Unc By USCG. Up for Auction is by far the Finest 1901-p Morgan We have ever brought to a...moreuction. The 1901 Morgan dollar is an elite condition rarity. Despite a mintage in excess of 6.9 million coins, the date is scarce in Mint State, rapidly decreasing in availability at each ascending grade level. It is believed that most of the coins not released into circulation at the time of issue were destroyed after 1918 under the terms of the Pittman Act. The condition of most surviving Mint State coins suggests that they survived in mixed bags of dollars or through bank teller drawers and were just by chance never paid out. For most collectors, the finest 1901 Morgan dollars collectible are in MS64. The last two PCGS-graded pieces that were auctioned in this grade realized $52,800 and $55,200, respectively. Gems are almost unheard of today, even though a handful are reported by the grading services. The last two Gems to sell at auction were an NGC coin in Bowers and Merena's November 2009 Baltimore auction, which realized more than $155,000, and the finest Known ms66 Ex. Jack Lee ms66 which sold in 2015 for $587,500. Clearly, the rarity of the 1901 Morgan dollar in high grade is not at all overstated. I have included 17 Pictures for this Lot. I have shown our coin in several light angles, as well as all the customary closeups of design elements and Breast Feathers. I have also included comparison Photos of our coin to the finest Known Ex. Jack Lee ms66 and two PCGS ms64 Examples. I think you will agree that our coin at hand has less marks than the two ms64 examples and is comparable to the Legendary Ex. Jack Lee ms66. Good Luck, We saved the very best for last in our Spring 6 Extravaganza. And if all of that wasn’t enough. Ours is the Vam 20, Buffed Reverse, R-5 variety. It might be noted that NONE of the examples graded ms63-ms66 by either major Service is the Vam 20. Clearly the Finest Known Vam 20, and near Top POP overall. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIRE AUCTION* 1798 Ty II Breen-6427 B-C2 Draped Bust Gold $5 Graded AU/BU Slider US

Lot # 734 (Sale Order: 475 of 583)

***Auction Highlight*** 1798 Ty II Breen-6427 B-C2 Draped Bust Gold $5 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider By USCG. Highlight of the Entire Auction. Up for Auction is an in...morecredibly rare 18th Century US Gold Piece, It is amongst the finest known. The 1798 $5 Large Eagle, Large 8, 14 Star Reverse Breen-6427, B. 2-C, Miller-26, R.6. The strike is sharp and balanced, with just a hair of weakness on the arrows and upper left shield, areas which are notoriously soft on this series. There are faint adjustment marks visible on Liberty and the fields nearby, but a strong glass is needed to find them. On the reverse we note a thin die crack which extends from the right foot of the second A in AMERICA up through the shield, scroll, star on the far right, and out the rim through the post of the F in OF. The right side of the reverse die shows evidence of extensive lapping, with a few of the leaves very thin on the branch and the end of the scroll lacking depth. Of great interest to the numismatist are the diagnostic features that make this die combination unique. The 8 used for the date punch is larger than most other dies of the year, and the reverse sports fourteen stars over the eagle instead of the expected thirteen. This was not a case of an additional star being added to the original thirteen as new states joined the union, as there were already fifteen states when the first heraldic eagle dies were engraved in late 1795. No, simple mathematics played a part, the engraver simply put too many stars in the die. Thus a naked eye type coin was created and in this case a rather scarce one at that. Estimates of the number of coins from this die pairing range from about 30 to perhaps a few more, but regardless of the exact number, this is an important rarity in high grade, and this coin will find many who desire to own it. I will note that NGC has graded 1 Example as ms60. It had an estimate at auction of $70,000-$80,000 and Realized $115,000 in the Goldberg Auction, Lot 2240 on February of 2007. I am including a picture of that coin for your comparison. I have also included the coin tied with our coin, the au58 example at PCGS. You will note the ugly die breaks throughout the shield on the reverse of this example. That is the BD-3 Variety. Of The entire known population of 35-40 coins, only 3 are known of the B-2c Variety with the cracks not yet present on the shield. Our coin at hand, one au53 and the one that sold at Goldbergs in 2007, for $115,000. Good Luck in attempting to secure This Terrific Rarity! A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
