Extraordinarily RARE Experimental Prototype Josef Nickl Patent Mauser M1916/22 9MM Pistol

Lot # 24 (Sale Order: 28 of 442)

S# 40 | Chambered in 9mm Nickl or also known as 9mm Short (a reduced rim 9mm Kurz case) | This is an EXCELLENT example of an extremely rare Mauser prototype of the rotating barrel models with limited production. With not more than 50 ever made in all configurations, this is number 40! Not many have even come to the light and hit the market; they are tucked away in private collections where they could remain a lifetime, so take advantage of this one, because you may not see another! This rotating barrel (Steyr pattern) design was actually developed by Josef Nickl at the Czech Bruno factory that was produced by the Mauser factory on a strictly experimental prototype basis only. It is almost identical to the Czech model 1922/24 semi-automatic pistol but considerably larger in size. It is in fact, the predecessor to a historic lineage of CZ Pistols. The serial number of this unique pistol is "40” and it is correctly numbered on the rear of the frame, the top of the slide, the front barrel bushing, the underside of the side plate, and take down lever, and appropriate internal parts. The magazine is unmarked but due to the limited production amount and the extremely limited examples we have seen in today’s market, we do not know for a fact that all the magazines were numbered. We do know it requires a certain type of magazine to release the slide lock mechanism in which this one does so. The left side of the frame is marked with a large "N" which stood for the Nickl Patent followed by the Mauser Banner and the 2-line address “Waffenfabrik Mauser A.G. / Oberndorf a.N.” located on a the removable side plate. Another interesting and unique key to mention on this pistol specifically, there is a Eagle/N (Nitro) pressure proof mark visible on the right side of the trigger guard. This is the only example of a Nickl Mauser with this exact proof mark that has been seen. This proof wasn’t used until after Jan. 15th 1940 so we can only assume it was kept in storage for quite sometime before actually being sold in the commercial market. It is fitted with a one-piece set of wrap-around style walnut grips with fine cut checkering on each side. The pistol has a rust blue finish with a straw colored hammer. |||| Condition: Excellent. 99% of the original blue finish overall with only very minor edge wear/light oxidation spotting on slide. The walnut grips are also in excellent condition with most of the original varnish overall with nice distinct checkering, showing some small handling marks on the right side. Mechanically functions excellent, and has an excellent bore with strong rifling. |||| Certification: Mauro Baudino with the Paul Mauser Archive has done some digging and personally wrote up a certification for this pistol, which is included. The winner will receive the physical certification papers, as well as digital, and we will offer to add your name to the certification at request.

Excellent Cased Mass. Arms Co. Adams Patent Double Action .31 Cal. Percussion Pocket Revolver

Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 29 of 442)

S# 2137 - .31 Caliber, 3.25" Octagonal barrel | Possibly a private purchase - Tag included in case reads "W.N.W. Co. B - 169 R.P.M.a" | Top reads "MADE FOR ADAMS REVOLVIN...moreG ARMS CO. N.Y./BY MASS. ARMS CO. CHICOPEE FALLS./PATENT MAY 3. 1853. JUNE 3. 1856. APL 7. 1857." | Patented in England in 1851 by Robert Adams as well as improvements by Lt. Beaumont. They are much sturdier than Colt's multi-part, open top revolvers due to the single casting forming the barrel, frame, and grip frame. With only 4,500 of these pocket models produced for the civilian market in .31 caliber, the same as Colt's ever popular Model 1849 Pocket, up until 1861. A lot were private purchased in place of pocket colts, which would make sense of the tag included with this one. |||| Condition: Excellent. 90% High Gloss original Blue Finish remaining on the frame of this revolver. Shows scratches and light surface rust spotting. Cylinder has turned to a dull grey/brown. For the age, this finish is incredibly rare and one of the nicest to be seen on the internet. Checkered Walnut grips are in excellent shape with deep checkering. Mechanically functions extremely smooth, safety works, bore looks great! Accessories include: Correct Power Flask (with some powder), ELEY BRO LONDON marked cap tin full of caps, .31 caliber bullet mold marked "MASS. ARMS CO. Chicopee Falls" with a single lead ball, Issued tag (possible ivory), and the key to case.

Museum Grade WWII Japanese Type 98 Army Shin-Gunto Officer’s Sword

Lot # 39 (Sale Order: 43 of 442)

First off, this is one of the nicest WWII Era Japanese swords that I've had the oppurtunity to auction. It's been looked at by multiple sword collectors and blade expert;...more each one were blown away at the condition and gave their approval! The blade is MINT with no bends, temper cracks, rust, or edge nicks. There is an outstanding temper on blade that is complete and visible from across the room. This blade was made using the old ways including water temper and measures 25.75" tip to notch & 34.25” overall blade tip to tang tip. Scabbard is 29” & Grip is 10-1/8”. There is one drilled hole in tang. The tang is marked, with faint red painted characters. The original WWII gunto mounts are as good as you could hope for and retains all the high-grade fittings. All washers around the guard are there and the push-button release works well. Handle is complete with original wrap. The scabbard is mint with no dents or rust.

Outstanding WWII Wartime German photo-album with 80+ photos of Combat + Atrocities

Lot # 41 (Sale Order: 45 of 442)

There are at least 80 pictures and are much better than the normal “camp and training pictures” found in many common German photo albums. Pictures are well inscribed in G...moreerman and look to be 1939 and later. There are the normal officer photos and camp life. BUT now we start combat field examples of troop trains, severely damaged city centers, tanks, heavy guns, women and children in front of their thatch-covered roofs. Prisoners being marched, flames and explosions, dead horses and soldiers. Destroyed tanks and equipment and the carnage left in the trench lines. Of particulate note are several pictures showing Jewish elders stopped in the streets of a captured city and being harassed by having their beards cut off by German soldiers. - Incredible Photo album with lots of history! Not all photos are pictured so the buyer will certainly be surprised!
