***Auction Highlight*** **Star Note** 1869 $1 Large Size Legal Tender Note "Rainbow Note" FR-18 Grad

Lot # 440 (Sale Order: 301 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** **Star Note** 1869 $1 Large Size Legal Tender Note "Rainbow Note" FR-18 Grades vf, very fine. One of the most coveted and sought-after curr...moreency pieces in American history is this 1869 Legal Tender Series “Rainbow” Note, so named for the colorful appearance of the front design, which features a red Treasury seal and serial numbers, a green frame around the serial number, a green tint at the top of the note, and a vertical blue tint or “stain” that runs vertically through part of the paper. Not only are the 1869 Legal Tender Series notes the only notes which bear the label “Treasury Note” instead of the label “United States Note,” found on all later issues, this $1 note from the series also marks the very first appearance of President George Washington on any federal $1 denomination bill! Listed as #41 in the book 100 Greatest Currency Notes by Q. David Bowers, the Rainbow Note also features a vignette of Columbus arriving in the New World in the upper left corner. The reverse side is perhaps even more interesting, with an array of continuous geometric “flowers” surrounding the intertwined letters “US” and a block of text describing the penalties for counterfeiting. In fact, the term “greenbacks” was used for the notes thanks to their dazzling all-green colored backs. First authorized in 1862, Legal Tender Notes are the longest-lived type of U.S. paper money in the United States. Unlike other paper currency, these notes were backed only by the credit of the government, and none have been authorized since 1869.

***Auction Highlight*** NGC 1868 FINEST KNOWN Gold Dollar $1 Graded ms67* PL BY NGC (fc)

Lot # 442 (Sale Order: 303 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** NGC 1868 FINEST KNOWN Gold Dollar $1 Graded ms67* PL BY NGC. Only 10,500 proof gold dollars were produced for this year. This piece display...mores sparkling, reflective fields on each side; obviously an early strike that was minted before the initial die polish wore off. Additionally, the devices are frosted and give the coin a cameo-like appearance, quite unusual for a business strike. NGC has certified 19 1868 dollars as Proof like, and this piece is the finest. As one might expect from the Superb grade, there are virtually no abrasions on either side of this magnificent gold coin. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1896-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select+ Unc By USCG (fc)

Lot # 445 (Sale Order: 304 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1896-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select+ Unc By USCG. Up for Auction is a Key Date 1896-o. Silvery and untoned over minimally abraded surfac...morees, this appealing coin is worthy of a strong bid. A true condition rarity among Morgan dollars, the 1896-O is readily obtainable in worn condition yet scarce to rare in all Mint State grades. When we further consider that most Uncirculated survivors of this 4,900,000-piece issue are poorly struck with inferior luster, the present offering is sure to catch the eye of the discerning Morgan dollar collector. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1847 Hawaii Hawaii Penny 1c Grades Choice Unc RB (fc)

Lot # 448 (Sale Order: 307 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1847 Hawaii Hawaii Penny 1c Grades Choice Unc RB. Satin to softly frosted surfaces are hard, tight and free of all but a few wispy handling...more marks. Scattered carbon flecks are also noted, commensurate with the assigned grade, although iridescent toning is minimal and largely confined to the obverse. Definitely a premium quality RB example, the reverse retains nearly complete rose-red color, the obverse much of the same. The copper coinage of 1847 was the first for the Hawaiian Islands and several minor varieties -- date styles and berry counts -- are known. All are fairly elusive, especially in Choice Mint State as offered here. The 1847 Hawaii cents were struck by the Attleboro, Massachusetts firm of H.M. & E.I. Richards. They bore the blundered legend HAPA HANERI in place of the proper HAPA HANELE

*HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR* 1879-o FINEST KNOWN! Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 449 (Sale Order: 308 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1879-o FINEST KNOWN! Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR - Up for Auction is the Single Finest Known 1879-o, not TI...moreED, THE SINGLE FINEST. None other have ever graded ms67. This coin has long been held in a private collection in New Hampshire, never having been graded, until just before this auction. No other 1879-o has ever risen to this lofty grade, and the example at hand deserves it. In A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, fifth edition, Dave Bowers does not even mention MS66 examples of the 1879-O. Rather, the silver dollar authority writes: "MS-64 coins are scarce, and in proportion to the demand for them, MS-65 pieces are rare. ... Bag marks are a huge problem." The Premium Gem population is so small that most collectors will never be able to acquire such a coin. No 1879-O Morgans are known finer. This dazzling MS67 coin is at the top of the Condition Census and is truly about as close to perfection as a Morgan can get without crossing that landmark border to 68. We have previously handled a small number of Premium Gems but none above ms65+, making this piece the sole finest that we have ever offered or anyone has ever offered. The strike is sharp, and the luster is frosty and brilliant -- unusual characteristics for an O-mint Morgan that make the 1879-O a favorite issue from this mint. The advanced Morgan collector simply cannot do better than this very coin. Sandi and I take great pride in being able to bring this to you and we wish you great luck. We have given you the only 3 ms66+ to have ever come to auction. Please note the reason ours is an ms67, it should be obvious in comparing the 3 ms66+ coins A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1836 Reeded Edge GR-12 Capped Bust Half Dollar 50c Graded xf45 details By SE

Lot # 453 (Sale Order: 312 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1836 Reeded Edge GR-12 Capped Bust Half Dollar 50c Graded xf45 details By SEGS. Lovely rim toning highlights this ultra rare 1836 Reeded Ed...morege Half Dollar, GR-1 R2. Good detail throughout the devices. The details designation is due to some light hairlines on the obverse which can be seen with the ad of a loupe. These Reeded Edge half dollars were struck late in 1836 and were some of the first coins struck on the new steam powered coining press. At last the variable human element was removed from striking the coins and the result is a more uniform and predictable strike on each coin made with such a machine. As a tighter collar was used to hold the planchet in place, this no longer allowed for lettering on the edge, as lettering would cause the struck coin to stick in the collar and not eject properly. Thus reeding was imparted by the collar, and coins could be ejected efficiently as part of the striking process and recoil of the dies. The mintage of the Reeded Edge half dollar of 1836 is reported by the Guide Book as 1,200+ pieces of which only a few hundred are known today. This example will serve well to represent this important technological achievement which finally allowed for more mechanized production of dies and of striking the coins in a uniform manner. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin

*HIGHLIGHT OF NIGHT** NGC 1812 O-103 NEAR TOP POP Capped Bust 50c Graded ms66 BY NGC (fc)

Lot # 456 (Sale Order: 314 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** NGC 1812 O-103 NEAR TOP POP Capped Bust Half Dollar 50c Graded ms66 BY NGC. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT - Up for Auction is a superb 1812 Capped...more Bust Half Dollar, O-103, Which holds the lone spot as #2 in the condition census, NGC ms66. The coin is tied for 4th finest in the date, and it holds the #2 spot alone for the variety. The coin tied for 3rd in the condition census, which is tied with 4 other coins sold recently for $21,000. This example is a full point higher graded, by the same service. I am including the ms65 example and its auction results. The coin at hand has spectacular luster, thick and rick painted over both sides. A crisp strong strike and toning that is beautiful with colors ranging from yellow to orange through the reds and purples. The reverse has a more target toning of the same wonderful spread of colors. A coin fit for the finest of collections. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

*HIGHLIGHT OF MONTH* 1889-s Near TOP POP Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms66+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 457 (Sale Order: 315 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1889-s Near TOP POP Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms66+ By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH - Up for Auction is a coin that is 1 coin from the TOP PO...moreP, an ms66+ 1889-s Morgan, and very worthy of that grade. The finest known is a single ms67 that has never come to public auction. This coin is tied for 2nd finest known. It s superb. Exceptional premium Gem surfaces exhibit an intense frosty-white appearance to both sides. Fully struck from the dies and expertly preserved to rank among the finest known. The 1889-S is a scarcer Morgan silver dollar issue with a mintage of just 700,000 pieces, survivors of which are typically found in grades below MS-65. At the Gem level it becomes conditionally rare and is exceedingly so above the basal MS-66 level. At 66+ and higher it is virtually unknown and unavailable. Once again Sandi and I are very excited to bring this coin to auction, long dormant for many decades in a New Hampshire collection. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1801 BB-213 B-3 Draped Bust Dollar $1 Graded au58 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 458 (Sale Order: 316 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1801 BB-213 B-3 Draped Bust Dollar $1 Graded au58 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT - Up for Auction is one of the finest known BB-213 801 Dr...moreaped Bust Dollars. Classic gunmetal-blue and gray toning on both sides of this high grade coin. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are free of any detracting marks. The obverse die was slightly misaligned from the reverse, so the left dentils are missing from that area, but extra long and extended on the right. This reverse die is interesting as all the T's in the legend are missing their right serif, as it had broken off the punch. The obverse does have the serif in LIBERTY so it must have been engraved at a different time. This broken T punch shows up again in 1802 on the B-6, BB-241 variety. Certainly in the top five for the variety, as not many of these are known this well preserved, and only 4 are known in mint state. I am including the au55 example of this variety that sold at auction. If you look at miss liberty's drape and hair on the au55 example it will be very obvious that ours rises to au58 level, we dare say au58+ would have been more accurate. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1883 TOP POP Three Cent Copper Nickel 3cn Graded pr68 Cam By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE AUCTION - The 1883 is a semi key date among three cent ...morenickels, as the Mint struck a lowly total of 4,000 coins for circulation that year. High-grade examples are often out of reach for the average collector, who instead turns to one of the 6,609 proofs minted. Spectacular white-on-black contrast and flawless surface preservation are the hallmarks of this technically unsurpassed proof. Tied for Finest known in Cameo. *tHIGHLIGHT OF NIGHT** 1798 S-169 LDS R3 Draped Bust Large Cent 1c Graded Unc+ BN By USCG. Highlight of the Night - Up for Auction is a Rare 1801 S-169 Variety. T...moreied for the Finest known in the variety. Only 3 Coins known in mint state. This ms61 has a hard smooth planchet with no porosity or corrosion of any kind. Glossy and lustrous chocolate brown with a halo of faded mint color around some design elements. Mostly smooth, though scattered minute abrasions and contact points are noted on the central obverse device. The original planchet had some irregularity which makes the coin appear slightly bent in certain light, it is as made. The reverse is very appealing and is relatively smooth for the assigned grade. A challenging variety to find this sharp, and an excellent high grade cent for an 18th century type set. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin

Lot # 465 (Sale Order: 323 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1884-s vam 4B I2 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select Unc By USCG. This is an attractive and desirable Uncirculated specimen of an eagerly sou...moreght Morgan dollar. Brilliant silver white surfaces retain ample evidence of a semi-proof like finish. In fact it is nearly PL. It is boldly to sharply struck throughout with a very attractive appearance for the assigned grade. The 1884-S is one of the most famous condition rarities in the Morgan dollar series. Though 3.2 million pieces were struck -- a generous total for the type -- the vast majority were spent and spent again in local commerce, and today the typical grade may be EF or AU, with many survivors well below those grades. The scarcity and value of this issue increases exponentially in Mint State, where it becomes a significant challenge for advanced Morgan specialists. Clearly the present offering represents an important opportunity in today's market. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin
