1918 $1 National Currency "Flying Eagle" Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, MN Grades vf++

Lot # 712 (Sale Order: 476 of 608)

1918 $1 National Currency "Flying Eagle" Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, MN Grades vf++. There are three different years found on series of 1918 one dollar b...moreills.  Despite also saying 1914 and 1913, these are referred to by collectors as 1918 federal reserve bank notes.  Collectors have given this note the nickname of the “Flying Eagle.”  The back of the note shows why the bill received its nickname. Keep in mind that series of 1918 one dollar federal reserve bank notes were issued for 12 different banks. The artwork will all be the same though.  George Washington is on the left hand side of the bill.  There is a blue seal on the right hand side of the bill and the serial numbers are in blue ink.

1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr-1173 Speelman/White Grades f+

Lot # 722 (Sale Order: 482 of 608)

1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr-1173 Speelman/White Grades f+. It is hard to believe that large size ten dollar gold certificates were only issued in 1907...more and 1922. The United States first printed gold certificates in the early 1860s. For some reason they never printed the ten dollar denomination until 1907. 1922 was the last year of the large size gold Certificate Currnecy. In 1928 paper money was changed to the size we are accustomed to seeing today. The portrait of Alexander Hamilton was used instead of the virtually unknown Michael Hillegas. Hillegas was the first treasurer of The United States. Perhaps if Hillegas had died in a duel then he would be better remembered today. All 1922 $10 gold certificates were signed by Speelman and White. Interestingly enough, there is a small variety for the series. Some notes have smaller serial numbers than the standard numbers. The small serial number notes do command a slight premium, especially in higher grades.

*HIGHLIGHT OF NIGHT** 1924-d Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle Graded ms65 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 724 (Sale Order: 484 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1924-d Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle Graded ms65 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT - As with most other branch mint issues from the 192...more0s, the 1924-D was struck to a healthy extent with more than 3 million coins, but nearly all of them were melted. In fact, the 1924-D was once so difficult to find it was considered one of the greatest rarities in the entire Saint-Gaudens series. Repatriations from overseas holdings have since improved the availability of this this Denver twenty dollar gold issue, but it remains scarce in near-Gem condition and ultra rare in Gem and highly sought-after among series specialists. This well-detailed example enjoys rich orange-gold color and satiny mint luster. One mark in the left obverse field limits the grade. I have included another ms65 example, please note the large gouge on the knee. This is much more distracting, and the example realized over $50,000. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1838 C Charlotte Classic Head Gold Quarter Eagle $2.5 Graded au55 Details By

Lot # 726 (Sale Order: 486 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1838 C Charlotte Classic Head Gold Quarter Eagle $2.5 Graded au55 Details By SEGS. Breen-6147, Variety 1 (Winter), Variety 20, R.3. The 183...more8-C Classic Head quarter eagle is always in demand as the first issue of the Charlotte Mint series. With a small mintage of 7,880 pieces, the 1838-C is a scarce-to-rare issue in all grades, and most examples seen are in the VF-XF grade range. A few finer examples were saved for their novelty value, but the issue is genuinely rare in Mint State. The 1838-C is also popular with branch mint type collectors, because the Classic Head design was only struck for two years at the Charlotte Mint. The present coin is an attractive Choice AU specimen, with lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces that retain considerable amounts of original mint luster. Light hairlines account for the details designation. Just a touch of wear is evident on the well-detailed design elements and the overall presentation is most appealing. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin

***Auction Highlight*** 1885-cc Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 727 (Sale Order: 487 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1885-cc Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67+ By SEGS. A truly remarkable Carson City example combining superior preservation and stunning eye appe...moreal. The surfaces are toned in varying shades of virtually the full spread of the rainbow. Blues dominate on the perimeter and more reds and oranges in the inner area with untoned centers A truly wonderful coin. This beautiful color is backlit by considerable pearly luster that glows most radiantly on both sides. Satiny in the fields and essentially untouched cheek. An extremely popular issue with the third lowest mintage among circulation strike Morgan dollars, the 1885-CC was produced to the extent of just 228,000 pieces. A sizable percentage of the original mintage (148,285 coins, or 64.9%) was distributed through the various GSA sales of 1972 to 1980, however, which fact has made Mint State examples readily obtainable in today's market. Even so, this issue is rare above the MS-66 grade level. At MS-67+, this specimen is among the very finest survivors and only a few have been graded finer. It is a serious find for the collector assembling the finest set of Carson City Mint coinage or Morgan silver dollars. Within 1 point of finest known. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1898-o vam 7B I2 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 735 (Sale Order: 495 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1898-o vam 7B I2 R5 Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67+ By SEGS. A brilliant and smartly impressed beauty drenched in satiny mint luster. The his...moretory of the 1898-O Morgan dollar is similar to that of the more widely promoted 1903-O. From the year of striking nearly into the middle of the 20th century the 1898-O was a phantom among silver dollars, especially in Mint State. It is likely that much of the mintage was included among the 270,232,722 silver dollars destroyed in 1918 under provisions of the Pittman Act.The availability of the 1898-O in Mint State did not change until the silver dollar releases of the early 1960s. And change it did, in dramatic fashion. Thousands of 1898-O dollars, along with 1903-O, 1904-O, and other dates were released. The eventual number of 1,000-coin bags involved is unknown but obviously substantial given the fact that the 1898-O is among the most plentiful Morgan dollars in Mint State. As one of the finest known, this MS-67+ is an impressive condition rarity equally well suited for a high grade type set or an advanced Morgan dollar collection.

*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIRE AUCTION 1872 Three Dollar Gold 3 Graded ms64 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 736 (Sale Order: 496 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1872 Three Dollar Gold 3 Graded ms64 By SEGS. Highlight of the Entire Auction - In the post-Civil War era for three dollar gold pieces, the...morere are only two high-mintage type coins--the 1874 and 1878--and all other dates are low-mintage rarities. The 1872 falls into the latter category, as only 2,000 business strikes were produced. This near-Gem representative, pale yellow-gold with typically reflective fields and a solid strike, offers great visual appeal for the date. Only a few scattered wispy abrasions in the fields preclude an even finer designation. Near the finest known, only 2 graded finer.
