Group of 2 United States Mint Proof Sets 1978-1979 12 coins

Lot # 2401 (Sale Order: 2 of 1796)

Group of 2 United States Mint Proof Sets 1978-1979 12 coins. Group of 2 United States Proof Sets 1978-1979 12 coins. The 1978 Proof Set the number of coins to six....more The sets now included the Eisenhower Dollar, Kennedy Half Dollar, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent. The quality of the coins found in 1978 Proof Sets is generally excellent. Nearly all coins encountered will have deep cameo finishes. Some 1978 Proof coins have received perfect grades of PR70DCAM or PF 70 Ultra Cameo from PCGS or NGC. The 1979 Proof Set saw the debut of the new design and size for the one dollar coin. The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was sized slightly larger than the quarter. the obverse of the coin featured the woman’s suffrage figure’s portrait and the reverse carried over the prior design from the Eisenhower Dollar on a smaller canvas. The 1979 proof coins contained in the sets carry two different styles of mint marks, known as Type 1 or Type 2. Type 1 mint marks have the area inside the letter filled, while Type 2 mint marks are clear and flat on top. The rarity of the Type 2 version varies by denomination, with the Susan B. Anthony Dollar being the rarest and carrying the highest premium, trending pr69 $65. The packaging for the 1979 Proof Set remained unchanged from the prior year with one exception. A round plastic ring was fitted into the large slot reserved for the dollar coin to accommodate the denomination’s new size. The packaging would be redesigned in the following year, specifically for the small size dollar.

1935A $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii WWII Emergency Currency Grades vf details

Lot # 2422 (Sale Order: 18 of 1796)

1935A $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii WWII Emergency Currency Grades vf details. 1935a $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii, Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau Grades. It was...more the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Everybody in Hawaii was sitting on pins and needles. Were the Japanese preparing a massive invasion of the islands? If they did invade, they could use the millions of dollars in currency on the islands to buy war material. To thwart this, these $1 Federal Reserve Notes were sent to the islands. Each has a large HAWAII printed on the reverse. If the Japanese did invade, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "Hawaii" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find.

Lot # 2423 (Sale Order: 19 of 1796)

Military Payment Certificate (MPC) Series 692 5c Cents Grades xf+. Series 692 military payment certificates might be described as the most American of any of the ...moreMPC notes issued between 1946 and 1973. The designers at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing used distinctly American vignettes like eagles, buffalos, and Native Americans. These were first introduced into circulation on October 7th, 1970 and withdrawn on March 15th, 1973. This is the last official series of military payment certificates ever issued by the United States. Series 692 MPCs were issued for eight different denominations. Like the prior three issues, these were exclusively used in Vietnam, which means that many came home with soldiers as souvenirs.

1987 Barbados 1 Cent 1c KM-10 Grades Choice Unc RB

Lot # 2428 (Sale Order: 23 of 1796)

1987 Barbados 1 Cent 1c KM-10 Grades Choice Unc RB. Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the America...mores, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. Inhabited by Kalinago people since the 13th century, and prior to that by other Amerindians, Spanish navigators took possession of Barbados in the late 15th century, claiming it for the Crown of Castile. It first appeared on a Spanish map in 1511. The Portuguese Empire claimed the island between 1532 and 1536, but abandoned it in 1620 with their only remnants being an introduction of wild boars for a good supply of meat whenever the island was visited. An English ship, the Olive Blossom, arrived in Barbados on 14 May 1625; its men took possession of the island in the name of King James I. In 1627, the first permanent settlers arrived from England, and Barbados became an English and later British colony. During this period, the colony operated on a plantation economy, relying on the labour of enslaved Africans who worked on the island's plantations. The slave trade to the island continued until it was outlawed throughout the British Empire by the Slave Trade Act 1807, with final emancipation of enslaved persons in Barbados occurring over a period of five years following the Slavery Abolition Act 1833.On 30 November 1966, Barbados became an independent state and Commonwealth realm with Elizabeth II as Queen of Barbados. On 30 November 2021, Barbados transitioned to a republic within the Commonwealth.
