Great Wallace Show Tableau Wagon Dragon Carving

Circa 1880's, extremely rare signed piece by "J.F. Martes, Carver, Cincinnati, Ohio". This dragon carving was from the reverse side of the Wallace Tableau Parade Wagon. Remnants of original gold leaf with overpainted green is apparent with verycrisp detailed skillful carving. Part of tail, right leg, and upper row of teeth are missing, and point of tail is broken off. Museum mounted. Approx. 60" x 30".
