10" uncut paper doll of stylish flapper lady of the 1920s is presented along with four uncut sheets of costumes and accessories. Included is the original mailing tube in which the paper doll was sent. The paper doll was drawn (unsigned) by Nell Brinkley, and is a perfect example of her signature "Brinkley Girl". "Primrose Paper Dolls" published by Charles Thompson, 1912 $100/200

9 1/2" x 7" book. designed "to paint, cut out and dress", the book is in fine condition, with four pairs of pages, featuring Beth, Marjorie, Betty and Tom and Teddy. Each child is represented by two 3 3/4" paperdolls and two identical pages of costumes; one set of costumes is color-tinted by the publisher as a guide for the child to color the matching costumes. At the back is a page with Thompson's Paint Blocks and directions for use. The book is intact, uncut, and unpainted except for some delicate touches on two pages. Published by Charles C. Fine Album of Newspaper Paper Dolls drawn by Penny Ross for the Chicago Tribune $300/500

Lot # 465 (Sale Order: 463 of 498)      

Mostly 7"-9". The early 20th century artist-illustrator M.F. "Penny" Ross designed a comic strip "Mama"s Angels" for the Chicago Tribute for 15 years, and a series of paper dolls featuring the children and characters from the strip appeared in the paper at times. A collection of 68 of these paper dolls has been assembled along with one to four costumes for each doll. Mrs,. Crossley has carefully annotated each doll by name and according to the completeness of the trousseau. The dolls are from the Angel Family Series, and Fashion Parade. A side-note: In 1926 Penny Ross, the illustrator, went on to Hollywood, and along with Outcault of Buster Brown fame was one of the five illustrators who worked with Walt Disney prior to the formation of Walt Disney Studios. It is said that his daughter, Mary Jane, wore the patent leather shoes that became famous when he presented them in his illustrations, and are known, even today by the name of Mary-Jane's. Excellent condition, beautifully cut and assembled (not glued or taped). Early 20th century....more
