Kay Nielsen's Illustration Plate - 1920
Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 266)
This marvelous circa 1920 full color tipped-in plate is from perhaps the most beautiful children's book ever published "east of the sun and west of the moon. Old tales from the north". The artist is kay nielsen and the plate was used to illustrate the many norse tales in the book. The plate is done is a preparatory ink and watercolor style, it is still attached to the page the image is 5 1/4" x 7" the mat is 11" x 14" and is ready to frame.

Porky Pig and his Gang Better Little Book #1404. This particular book is called "Porky of the Mounties" and was published by Whitney in 1946. This is an all pictures comic. No text. Very clean.

Alaska Cruise Brochures
Lot # 4 (Sale Order: 4 of 266)
This lot contains two steamship-line brochures promoting trips to Alaska. One measures 6-1/4" X 3-1/2" (folded rack size) and opens to eight panels of text and illustrations on both sides. It was issued by the Northland Transportation Co. for the 1938 season. The second brochure measures 9" X 8-1/4" folded and opens up to eight panels. One side has color maps of the Canadian National Steamship routes to Alaska and the "Scenic Triangle Tour" by railroad. There are also deck plans of three ships. The other side has photos and text promoting Alaska and the Yukon. This Canadian National Alaska and Pacific Cruises brochure was issued in color for the 1938 season.
1917 Panoramic Photo Of Camp Cody, N.M. 70 1/2" Long
Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 5 of 266)
This original photograph of Camp Cody, New Mexico, shows a panoramic view of the camp, which served as an Army camp from 1916 to 1918. It shows horse-drawn water wagons, mounted Cavalry, barracks, tents, soldiers, touring cars, trucks and a mountain range on the horizon, among other details. It was taken in November of 1917 by the Richards Film Service of Deming, N.M; their name and address are on the right side. It is in sepia tone and has been rolled up for many years. so there is no fading or discoloration. There is some minor creasing and wear along the edges but no missing pieces. The photograph is 70-½" x 8"

29 Red Man Tobacco Indian Cards

This set of cards, called "American Indian Chiefs," had a total of 40 issued. There was one in each package of Red Man Chewing Tobacco. The missing 11 cards are numbers: 11,13,23,26,31,32,36,37,38,39,40. There are no bends or creases. Some have a small 1/8" factory tear at bottom center - does not detract. We have shown one card at random close up front and back.
Lindberg Paper Airplane

This is a paper airplane giveaway advertising Thomsen's Lindy Bar. I would assume this came out in 1927 after his historic NY to Paris flight. Thomsen's candies were part of the Pacific Coast Biscuit Co. This is the only one of these I have seen in 37 years. It is a very unusual item.

1880s - 1940s Confederate Currency Advertising Notes

No, these aren't real Confederate bills, they're wonderful, vintage advertising items that are finely printed in the form of Confederate States of America $5 - $10 - $20 and $100 notes. In the years just after the civil War many enterprising entrepreneurs gathered up examples of Confederate currency and used them as advertisements. Lithographers who specialized in producing advertising trade cards and the like also made facsimiles of the popular Confederate notes with printed (rather than ink-stamped) advertising on the reverse side. The "notes" offered here are examples of these facsimiles. Each measures approx. 7-3/8" x 3-1/4" and is printed on a delicate paper stock that does resemble the paper used to print bank notes / paper money of the period.
Framed Under Glass Musical Degree Certificate

23-1/2" x 20". This is a framed under glass musical degree certificate / diploma from Bethany College (Bethany, West Virginia) dated 1903, and signed by many people associated with the college. At upper middle is a lithographic vignette of Bethany College campus buildings, including Old Main, a building many consider to be one of the finest examples of collegiate Gothic architecture in America. The building was built in 1858. The litho was done by the Strobridge LItho Co., of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Hip'-pen-ing Film Festival Poster, Dec, 1967, San Francisco

It took a bit of effort for us to decode this particular poster for an event at 622 Broadway in San Francisco on December 4 & 11, 1967, called the Hippening Film Festival. Some of the highlights apparently included a film called "GRASS! Before & After" as well as dancers and other performers. The poster art is by S.Virgil. It is used, with no tape or holes, and has been folded. Size is 11" x 17"
Canadian Art Deco Poster

Illustrator R. Filipowski created this unique lithograph which reads, "THE TORCH: BE YOURS TO HOLD IT HIGH! IF YE BREAK FAITH WITH US WHO DIE WE SHALL NOT SLEEP. THOUGH POPPIES GROW IN THE FLANDERS FIELDS." McCrea Measures 12" x 18."
1936 Pasadena Tournament Of Roses Pictorial

This is a magazine from the Pasadena New Year's Day Parade in 1936 with cover art by Frank E. Brown. The pictorial, as it is called, is 38 pages of photos with a few in color, football scores of past Rose Bowl games, and more. This is in excellent condition is no creases or tears. 9" x 12".
Marshall-Wells Hardware Catalog

General hardware catalog issued by the Marshall-Wells Co., whose headquarters resided in Duluth, MN. Handwritten date on inside flyleaf is "11-30-37." Each page is heavily illustrated with drawings or photos of items for sale, including tools, hardware, lamps and lighting fixtures, household items, dinner ware, bathroom fixtures, cutlery, clocks and watches, guns and sporting goods, bicycles, horse gear, kids' wagons, pedal cars, and tricycles. Page numbers go to 4139 although many pages and/or sections are missing as the catalog was meant to be updated and only merchandise sold in any particular store would be included in a store's catalog.
1916 Motorcycle Stereo View Card

This stereo view card is by known amateur photographer Albert Reck, who was a train operator on The Portland Railway, Light and Power Company. This is a very well done and identified stereo view card featuring a rider on a motorcycle with a 1916 Oregon License Plate. This is in excellent condition and ready to add to your collection! 7" x 3-1/2"; each picture is 3-1/8" x 3-1/8".
Complete Set Of "Lucky Charms" Wills Cigarettes Cards

This is a complete set of the "Lucky Charms" Wills Cigarettes card series issued by the Imperial Tobacco Co. of Great Britain & Ireland, Ltd. Set consists of 50 colorful cards of meaningful charms, amulets, talismans, and symbols (many relating to the occult) from different countries around the world. The printed backside of each card describes the image on the front. Several cards have some light creasing and some have corner bumping; overall in very good condition.

1974 George Carlin Poster

This poster is for a performance in Portland, Oregon, by George Carlin held on April 11, 1974. What set him apart from other comedians of his time was his appearance -- wearing faded jeans and sporting long hair, a beard, and earrings at a time when clean-cut, well-dressed comedians were the norm. This performance was done a short time after he perfected what is perhaps his best-known routine, "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television." This poster is in excellent condition; no folds, tears or pinholes. Size is 14-7/8" x 22-3/8"
Roy Rodgers & Dale Evans Cut Out Book

This is a great example of an early paper doll book in excellent condition. It was printed in "1950" by the Whitman Publishing Co. and still has the store code in grease pencil on top. In as new condition. There are several pages inside with clothes; we have only shown the center page.

15-1/2" x 10-1/4", mat is 25" x 8-5/8". This is a photogravure of an Edward S. Curtis photograph copyrighted in 1903 titled "Judith - Mohave." This photograph of a young, bare breasted Indian woman was done by John Andrew & Son. Some overall browning, in overall good condition.
Vintage Original 1920s French Advertising Poster

A vivid lithographic printing, this poster is a nice example of French advertising in the early 1900s. Fully restored and conserved through a professional linen backer. The poster measures 28" x 23."
2 Mountain Boys Calendars
Lot # 22 (Sale Order: 22 of 266)
Here are two "Happy Daze" calendars featuring Paul Webb's Mountain Boys. These fun calendars were from the Union "76" Gas Station in La Grande, Oregon. The calendars are each twelve months, with each month having cheerful and expressionistic drawings of the Mountain Boys at the top of the page. The drawings feature the Mountain Boys being boys, having fun and in some getting into trouble. The years here are 1952 and 1953, with the 1952 being in much better condition than the 1953, the 1953 being excellent. La Grande must have really been growing then; in 1952 the phone number was 76, in 1953 it was 761. Wow! 8-1/2" x 1-1/2".
1924 Christmas Window Sign

This is a 1924 Christmas Seal paper lithograph window sign. It was done by the Edwards & Deutsch Litho. Co., Chicago-Milwaukee. It features Santa, a little girl, a Christmas stamp, etc. In near mint condition. Size is: 11" x 13 3/4".
1933-34 Heppner Sheepskin Scrip
Lot # 24 (Sale Order: 24 of 266)
This scrip was used during the Depression Era as a substitute for government issued currency. This one is printed on leather sheepskin as this community was a large sheep farming region in Oregon. It was secured by Morrow County Municipal, yet it was short lived as it was issued in 1933 and redeemable only until December 31, 1934. This is a 25¢ issue that is not found as often as some of the other denominations. This is in very good condition and it has been circulated. 5-3/8" x 2-1/2".
1950s Family Photo Album, Possibly From Washington
Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 25 of 266)
Here is an album of around 300 snapshots and school pictures that appear to date from the 1950s. The images include: family members; seven views of a bicycle decorated for a July 4th parade; four photos of a "Cadillac" pedal car; a series of photos of a 1956 wedding; kids with toys and pets; a high-school marching band; an airplane with nose art; and 11 pictures of a high-school-age saxophone player. The images make reference to several places in the state of Washington.
Several photos are missing from the album pages; otherwise it is in very-good-plus condition.
