Rare Stevens "Fishtail" Vest Pocket Single Shot Pistol

Estimate: $2000 - 3000
Also called the "Kickup Model" pistol, manufactured between 1864 and 1876 with approximately 1,000 made. The pistol is marked "STEVENS & CO. VEST. POCKET. PISTOL/CHICOPEE FALLS MASS." on the top barrel flat, and features a German silver blade front sight, a notch in the hammer spur services as the rear sight, a tip up barrel and smooth odd shaped flared rosewood grips. The matching serial number is marked on frame under the grip and on the left side barrel flat, with the left grip panel hand numbered to gun.

B) Manufactured circa 1866 to 1878. American Arms barrel address, with the Wheeler patent dates barrel marking. Square butt with short barrels. Right grip panel numbered to gun.

Belgian Novo Patent Folding Grip Ladies Purse Revolver

Nearly identical to a gun pictured on page 250 of Lewis Winant's "Firearms Curiosa", this is an all-metal, folding, double action revolver with a 5-shot cylinder and folding trigger. Blade front and recoil shield notch rear sights, with "D.D.OURY/ Bte" on the left side of the frame, Liege proofs on the rear of the cylinder, numerous Belgium proofs on the right side of the barrel lug and frame and "NOVO" on either side of the grip, which has raised scrollwork and a textured background. Nickel finish with gold plated trigger, grip latch and barrel release lever. There is light floral engraving around the frame screws.

The grip remains 90% original finish with wear on the high edges, with an aged patina on the exposed brass. Clear markings. The action is fine.

Two Antique Revolvers

Estimate: $800 - 1100
Manufactured circa 1880s with a total production of only a few thousand. The left barrel flat is marked "C.S. SHATTUCK HATFIELD MASS.", the left forward portion of the frame is marked "PAT NOV 4 1879" and the matching serial number is marked on the left side of the butt under the grips, and on the cylinder pivot bar. This revolver has a very unique and distinctive swing out cylinder, which swings to the right pivoting on a bar attached to the front of the frame. Nickel plated, with casehardened hammer and cylinder bar, blade front, frame notch rear sights and fitted with scallop border checkered hard rubber grips with "CS" monogram at the top.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus original nickel finish with a few areas of minor flaking. Overall there are a few minor scratches. The cylinder bar retains most of the original bright case colors, with most of the dull original case colors on the hammer. The grips are excellent. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.

B) Manufactured from 1863 to 1888, this is a four shot, .32 caliber pistol using a cluster of stationary barrels and a revolving firing pin. The left side barrel rib is marked "MANUFACTURED BY E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y." and "ELLIOT'S PATENTS MAY 29, 1860-OCT.1, 1861" on the right side rib. Matching serial number on the frame and barrels. German silver blade front and frame notched rear sights. The derringer is functionally double action only, with the concealed hammer operated entirely by the rear motion of the ring trigger. The grip section is contoured so the butt rests on the ring finger and it is fitted with smooth hard rubber grips. .

Condition: Very good. The barrels retain 30% original blue finish mainly in the protected areas, with a smooth mottled brown patina on the balance. The trigger does not lock into the decocked position, otherwise the action functions properly.

Matching numbers on frame, faces of barrel cluster and head of barrel cluster screw. Fitted with two-piece bag shaped varnished grips with German silver screw escutcheons. Complete with a partitioned wooden case lined in green velvet, a bullet mold, an iron ramrod, and a double face powder flask.

Excellent Plant's Manufacturing Front Loading Single Action Pocket Revolver

Manufactured circa 1890s with a total production of approximately 20,000, by the Eagle Arms Company, New York, with Plants Manufacturing Company of New Haven as the sales office. The revolver fires the 30 cup-primed cartridge. The top of the barrel rib is marked "EAGLE ARMS CO. NEW YORK", with patent dates marked around the cylinder and the serial number on the butt. There is a small "APC" marked on the toe of the butt. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened hammer and silver-plated frame, and fitted with smooth two-piece walnut grips.

Elaborate European Gold Damascene Walking Cane Pepperbox Revolver with Blade

Lot # 1010 (Sale Order: 11 of 990)      


Estimate: $5500 - 8500
Measuring in at a total length of 37 1/2 inches, with a brass tip on the wood veneered round steel shaft, which flares at the top and connects to the head, which is a 1 3/4 inch ribbed and flared ivory base, leading up to the iron knob, which is decorated with excellent gold damascene floral patterns and bands surrounding a scene of a dragon fighting a snake. Amid the border are three dragon heads, two small dragons, and a nude female figure. Pulling the head from the shaft reveals the weapon, a six-shot folding trigger percussion revolver, topped with a 6 3/4 inch triangular dagger. The dagger is checkered at the bottom and threaded to the cylinder pin, serving to retain the cylinder. Cylinder and frame are silver finished brass, with a capping cutout on the right side and a striker that lays flush with the frame when inactive.

The shaft shows mild dings, veneer cracks and wear appropriate to use (see image). 95% of the original gold wash is visible on the revolver section, with a bright patina on the exposed sections. Blade is slightly turned at the tip, and bright overall. The head is very good, with age cracking and fine grain on the base and strong designs on the head, with the blackened matte textured iron lending an attractive contrast to the 100% present gold. A fine addition to any collection of concealed or combination weapons.

Scarce Remington "Dog Head" Cane Gun

One of less than 2000 produced between 1866 and 1888. Steel tip with a German silver post sight on a ring immediately behind it, a Gutta Percha veneer over the barrel and action, a firing button just below a silver collar, and a finely detailed dog head top. The rear sight pops up when the handle is retracted for firing.

Condition: Fine. The most important component, the dog head grip, is fine. Some cracks are forming in the gutta percha veneer, most noticeably at the barrel below the joint, along with some mild scuffing. Rust is present on the tip and sight ring, with a dark aged patina visible in the low areas of the silver band. The front sight is out of alignment, otherwise mechanically excellent.

Scarce Early Remington & Sons Thomas Patent Percussion Cane Gun

Designed by John Thomas, Remington master mechanic, the Remington Cane Gun was a signature weapon for the firm in the post-Civil War era. Chiefly seen in center and rim fire configuration, the percussion style is limited to the earliest arms in the run. 36 inches long, with a metal tip marked "J.F. THOMAS/PATENT/(illeg.)/REMINGTON & SONS/ILION, N.Y./59" metal ring with pin front sight, Gutta Percha shaft covering, top-positioned firing button, and a silver collar at the base of the 4 1/2 inch "L" pattern stag grip. Pulling back on the handle exposes the percussion nipple and cocks the striker. Writer has never seen a Remington cane gun with a stag handle, so we cannot guarantee that it began life with it. None the less, it is still a very rare cane gun.

Scarce Fairbanks Patent Percussion Cane Gun

The brass collar near the antler handle is marked "FAIRBANKS/PATENT" and "BOSTON". Underhammer percussion style action which screws on to the barrel. The barrel has a wood plug with a brass extension that also acts as the tip of the cane. The gun has fixed sights. The iron surfaces are painted yellow with three bands of red. A.B. Fairbanks is also known for making an all-metal percussion boot pistol circa 1840. It is unclear when he made this cane.

Pair of Collumbell London Marked Flintlock Queen Anne Pistols

Cannon style muzzle on the detachable barrel, with the chamber bearing an "R/B" stamp, London Crown "V" and "GP" proofs, and "COLLUMBELL LONDON" on the top. Border engraved lock plate, with "COLLUMBELL" engraved below the flash pan, and a sunburst pattern on the trigger guard. Smooth stock, with an ornate silver reverse plate, thumb shield and grotesque face buttcap.

Pair of Silver Mounted Segalas Marked English Queen Anne Flintlock Pistols

These silver mounted Queen Anne style pistols were made by Israel Segalas, a French Huguenot who moved to England circa 1685-1690 and is listed as early as 1702 as a gun maker. Detachable cannon-style barrels with leaf border engraving at the breech, engraved borders around the chambers, and engraved tangs with 3-dimensional leaf patterns at the fronts. The locks are marked "SEGALAS - LONDINI" below the flash pans, with scallop-engraved borders. Iron trigger guard, with a decorative finial similar to the tang. Silver foliate side plates terminating in serpent's heads, leaf bordered silver thumb shields and grotesque silver buttplates.

Cased Pair of English Flintlock Dueling Pistols

Bead and notch sights, with engraving on the tang, hammer and lock plate. The lock is equipped with a roller frizzen spring, half cock safety and marked "HORTON/SALOP" below the high fence flash pan. Salop is an abbreviation used for Shropshire County, on the England/Wales border. Full stock, with a brass tipped ramrod, dual barrel wedges, silver escutcheons, and a checkered bag shaped grip. A silver plate on the wrist depicts a swan head emerging from a crown, over the text "R-B/More". In a red velvet lined hardwood case, with a brass plaque/carrying handle on the lid, oiler, two ramrods, powder flask, bullet mold, patches and two lidded compartments.

Case is good, as relined with external dents and wear on the lining. Mechanically excellent.

Pair of E&W Bond London Flintlock Belt Pistols

Estimate: $2000 - 3000
The lock plate is marked "E & W BOND" and the top of the barrel is marked "E & W BOND 45 CORNHILL LONDON". The lock, barrel tang, hammer, trigger guard, and buttcap are accented with an engraving. There is a hammer slide safety. The trigger guard and ramrod pipes are brass. The stock has checkering in the grip area, a black initial oval, and a belt hook on the left side. Complete with a brass tipped wooden ramrod. These massive pistols have a 9 inch barrel, and are 13 3/4 inches in overall length.

Condition: Very good. The barrel has a smooth dark patina and the action has a mottled gray patina. There is even pin point pitting on the barrel. The brass has a mixed patina. The revarnished stock is very fine with a hairline crack on the left flat and some minor handling marks. Overall the checkering is crisp.

Condition: Very good. The pistol has a mottled gray patina. There is even pin point pitting on the barrel. Two Finely Engraved and Silver Accented Juan Pigrav Flintlock Pistols

Scroll engraving around the flared oval muzzle, with silver filled scrollwork on the barrel flats, a set of three Fleur-de-Lis stamps at the breech, and a "crown/JUAN/ PI/GRAV" on the top flat. Vine engraving on the hammer and lock plate, with the latter showing a walking bird next to "IPH DEOP" beneath the flashpan. Carved full stock with floral vine designs, with a horn tipped ramrod, engraved brass trigger guard, side plate and back strap, and a checkered birds head grip.

Cased Matching Pair of Unmarked Engraved European Percussion Pistols

Estimate: $1200 - 1800
European, possibly Belgium in origin. No makers marks, the only visible marking is a "VJ" in an oval on the bottom of the frame directly behind the hammer and the number "4" on the bottom of the frame and barrel at the breech. Floral vine engraving on the frame sides and upper tang. Screw off Damascus barrel, folding trigger and fitted with a smooth burl walnut grip scallop caving around the edge of the butt. Complete in a wooden case with relined green felt lining.

Condition: Very good. The barrel retains traces original brown finish showing almost all of the Damascus pattern. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled silver/gray patina. The grip is fine with some scattered minor, dings and dents. The engraving is clear. The action is excellent. The case is good with scratches and dings on the exterior, the hinges are replacements, with the slots crudely cut out and one is loose. The relined interior is very good with some minor contact wear.

Cased Pair of Belgian Percussion Muff Pistols with Accessories

This lot consists of two identical percussion pistols with case and accessories. The pistol is stamped with a Liege ELG proof and a "crown/C" proof with the frame featuring a scroll engraving and the hammer featuring an engraved accent. The number "18" is stamped in front of the scroll engraved folding trigger. The damascus barrel is rifled. Smooth ebony grip with compartment. With a brown velvet lined case and the following accessories: bullet mold with the handle also a nipple wrench, wooden powder flask, wooden cap box, and key.

No makers marks, with Birmingham proof mark on the bottom of the frame and barrel. Floral vine engraved frame and upper tang and fish scale motif on the hammer. Folding trigger and fitted with a finely checkered walnut grip with a silver buttcap, with cap compartment and silver thumb oval. Complete in a wooden case with brass disk on the lid, dark green felt lining, with a label affixed to the inside of the lid which reads "The Patent Safety fuze which obtained the Prize Medal at the "Royal Exhibitions."/(hand written May 16, 1859 / Mr John Whittle)/Bought of BUCKFORD, SMITH, DAVEY, AND PRYOR./Manufacturers and PATENTEE, Tuckingmill, Cornwall". In the case is a silver flask.

Cased Pair of Sorby Wakefield Marked Percussion Muff Pistols with Accessories

This lot consists of a cased pair of Sorby percussion pistols with accessories. Frame has a light scroll engraving with the left side marked "CHAs SORBY" and right side marked "WAKEFIELD". Screw on smooth bore barrel and sliding bar hammer safety. British proofs on barrel and ahead of the folding trigger. Fitted with a checkered grip featuring a German silver diamond inlaid behind the upper tang. Complete with a partitioned case lined with green velvet, a Sykes powder flask, bullet mold with handle, nipple wrench, brush, key, and Hicks percussion cap tin. The top of the lid has a brass circle inlay marked "MR. D.W. SAMES PINNER, MIDDLESEX".
